Pork Pot Roast And Roasted Potatoes With Gravy

I'm sure I've posted this before, but this was dinner last night... A lot of people don't know this, but if you mix brown gravy mix with an equal amount of chicken gravy mix, you come up with a gravy that is excellent on pork! I got this out of an old church cook book, and it works! I sprinkle this on a pork roast, along with garlic, onion powder, and black pepper(of course!) wrap tightly in aluminum foil and bake for 3 hours at 320F..this creates a tender pork roast, and a great gravy for the potatoes you roasted in the same pan for the last two hours. Gravy usually needs thickening, but cold water and corn starch can do the job... This makes a great dish that is simple and tasty! Left overs can be made into burritos or BB-Q sandwiches- or what ever you can imagine! We talk about what to do with the leftovers, while we're eating the original meal... Look at left overs as a challenge, and not a burden!

I'll pass on the spuds, but that pork roast is calling to me!

Pat- I'm not much on potatoes, but these were tasty!

Yes brother...Cold water is the key to a great 'Slurry' gravy, nice and thick. When I run out of corn starch, I use arrowroot.

How timely. Everytime I open the freezer door this pork roast stares at me and I haven't had a clue on what to do with it during summer. It's been in the freezer since May Cinco de Mayo Green Chili days. This will be on the menu over the next week or so. Yum. Thanks for the gravy tip BD.

Pork is as versatile as chicken! And nowadays just as inexpensive! Bravo on what looks like a lovely meal. AND you and I look at leftovers the same way - a challenge!

I thought I was the only loon who used 1 each chicken bouillon cube and beef bouillon cube for pork. It works, because the flavor of pork is somewhere between, right/

Not a huge fan of Pork Roast, unless it's done RIGHT....AND THAT LOOKS RIGHT !

Ooh, it's finally cooled off here enough that an oven dish sounds appealing. And this one looks very satisfying.

BTW, if your city allowed street food trucks, would you be offering up bbq? Just curious.

Great trick on the gravy recipe. I don't like pork unless it's ham or bacon - this drives my hubs crazy. We can't figure out what my problem is with that one. I love your ideas about the leftovers, very clever!

Those old church cookbooks can hide some real gems, can't they? I've got a few of those tattered and yellow paged beauties.

What I love about a meal like that are the leftovers. It's great eating the cold sandwiches and warm burritos for days afterward.

Those old church cookbooks are chock full of gems, aren't they? I have never heard of mixing the two kinds of gravy packets. Wish I had known that when my father was alive...he ADORED gravy.
Baking the pork in alum. foil is new to me too. I've done it with beef, but never pork.
Leftovers are the best part!

I always use cornflour and cold water to thicken my gravy too, it works a treat! :)

I would never have thought to mix the two together. I'm trying it the next time I have pork. I love leftovers! I sometimes make 3 times as much as we need on purpose and freeze it for later.

Thanks for posting this recipe. It sounds amazing! Pot Roast and a hearty side dish is my favorite type of meal. When making pot roasts for dinner, I would recommend trying grass fed Black Angus beef. It is absolutely delicious and a healthier option. I work with La Cense Beef and because our beef is 100% grass fed it is higher in omega 3 acids and lower in calorie and fat as opposed to traditional grain fed beef. Try grass fed Black Angus Beef and you will be able to taste an even bigger difference!
