Macaroni Salad- Made The Way A Guy Does It!

I like pasta salad. I have been to many potlucks, buffets, and family gatherings where money seemed to be the object of this dish-cheap! I saw potential in how good this so-called side dish could be a meal within itself! Overkill is my middle name! When I make a pasta salad, you will not go home saying something was missing!
1. Any pasta, cooked El Dente- you pick!
2. Slices of black olives, sliced green olives, chopped onions, red bell pepper, chopped celery, chopped cooked chicken, 1 hard cooked egg sliced, chopped Colby cheese, chopped Swiss cheese..
3. Mix with Mayo, a small amount of mustard, and Ranch dressing. Season to taste- mainly black ground pepper..
4. Chill and serve..this ain't rocket science, but it is darn good! Bring it to your next gathering, and you will bring an empty bowl home!
Terrible photo- sorry! We also had a bit of sweet corn- not bad!

I just can't do cold pasta - never could, but respect those who love it.

Good Cook- surprises me, but we are all different when it comes to taste buds!
Brian- You pass the guy test of trying to get along with women!

Black beans! You forgot the black beans!

Well, you didn't forget, but that's one of my favorite things to add to a cold pasta dish.

Kate- I like black beans in dip, but they can be grainy in texture....

Now that is one manly pasta salad! I really don't have a good recipe and coincidentally just made a fabulous little pasta salad recipe I found, for a picnic tomorrow. It's definitely feminine...broccoli, green onions, cherry tomatoes...it'll be blogged and don't you dare call me a sissy! :-)

Yum - pasta salad with works! This sounds terrific with all the different tastes & textures. I never thought of adding meat, but yeah, why not? :)

I haven't had a good pasta salad in ages. It ALWAYS tastes bland, even when I make it. It's the best side dish for cookouts, but the kids don't like it...maybe they'll like your version. I never thought of using ranch dressing in there. Mmmmm.

Us Minnesotans know all about pasta salads, jell-o molds and the like.

Protestant Churches galore, which calls for bread and salad potlucks. They always serve the best homemade fattening desserts along with it. Your delicious sounding pasta would fit right in and be gobbled up.

Hey and only $6.00 for all you can eat if they are raising money for something. It's called a luncheon when there is money changing hands.

Oh, yeah! Sounds good and hearty. In fact, it would make a pretty good dish for the next Culinary Smackdown - Picnic!

Sounds great. I started liking pasta salad after I started being creative and throwing in a lot of stuff the others don't.

your macaroni salad looks as good as it sounded when you talked about it the other day. but judging by the blurriness of the photo i'd have to guess that you forgot to share the brand with us concerning what wine you had to go with this? ;) as always, this sounds yummy!!

Mmmm. I love pasta salad. It's almost like potato salad...there's no right or wrong way to make it and very difficult to ruin. Throw in almost anything.

Lea- I check out your girlie girl salad in a few minutes! :)
Vick- I'd usually use ham and or turkey, but chicken worked well..
Ily- Creamy Italian works even better than ranch..
J.J.- This area has a lot of Reformed and Christian Reformed- many potlucks!
eggplant- I thought of that, too...
Momster- Wife ate it for lunch twice, and it's gone!
Fingers- I entered a version of this in our clubs cook book...
Velva- When I see a pasta salad with hardly anything in it, I don't eat it!
Jingle- I wish it was a better photo...
sheri- No wine that night, but a white would be best..
Jen- Agreed!

I tend to throw in everything that isn't nailed down in my pasta salads. Cheese tortellini is a popular choice for the pasta too.

Jeff- Pasta salad for a guy- that's why I call it that!

I like the idea of Ranch dressing. Ramps up the flavor a little. Happy Memorial Day, Buff!
