It cracks me up, the shows that pit Chicago style pizza against New York Style pizza! I have taken a class in pizza making, and it is no longer an Italian dish- It's American as hot dogs and apple pie! The questions today are easy, and you get to contribute your Opinion- which is valued here!
1. Thick crust or thin? Which do you prefer?
2. Your favorite toppings, however strange they may be!
Me first!
1. In the middle of both! Sounds like a politicians answer, but it's true.. Not too thick, as I find it doughy, and not too thin, as it can be tough...
2. A spicy red sauce, Pepperoni, Italian sausage, mushrooms, with Parmesan, Romano ( both grated) Mozzarella, and Provolone cheese, shredded.. I'll eat other stuff on it, but this is my favorite!

1. Thin.
2. Barbequed chicken, red onion, mozzarella with barbeque sauce mixed in with the pizza sauce. And then Taco Pizza - which will forever remain my favorite with a taco flavored ground beef and refried beans topped with cheddar cheese, lettuce tomatos and lots of taco sauce. And it's ALWAYS better when they use refried beans in the pizza sauce as well.
I hope folks follow your lead, and put down everything they like on a pizza!
I really want to make a mini pizza. It's been so long since I've had one.
From the guy whi said here doesn't do meme...I give you Uncle Buff LOL
1. Thick. Deep dish pizza is perfect. I make it like fachia bread and then kneed it into a pizza crust.
2. Meat, meat and then a little meat. The standard cheese, fresh tomato sause (not pizza sause), provilone slices, black olives, mushrooms and onions. Sometimes I will go with a white sause over tomato sause, but only occasionally. Dominos has a white sause, but it is salty as the sea.
BlondeD- Do it! You will love it!
R.L.M- You can do anything you want! That is the cool part!
1. I used to like thick and now I like thin.
2. I like prosciutto and lots and lots of cheese. But occasionally I'll add, sausage, peperoni, mushrooms and even onions!
2. Oh, and I forgot my favorite these days: bacon!!!
Jen- I would share a pizza with you, anyday!
thin n' crispy pepperoni jalepeno...mmmm....i get home about 7pm so if you could deliver about then. smiles.
Brian- Sounds good to me!
I prefer a middle of the road dough, but of those two, I'd go with thin. I like just cheese on mine, or perhaps a little pineapple.
BlueV- It's all OK! Whatever you like is all good!
I like a chewy hand-tossed crust.
No red sauce - rather have olive oil with fresh basil, fresh tomato, spinach, feta, mozarella, black olives, onions. I finish it off with a shake of red chile flakes and dried oregano.
You're so right! Was so used to pizza hut that when I moved into Italy it was a pizza cultural shoch lol. Love it the napolitan style
Vick-I always expect more from you!
Ruth- you are in pizza central! You should be teaching us!
There's a fabulous chef/baker in my neighborhood who is Belgian, I believe, who makes a Northern Woods pizza that is probably the best pizza I've ever had - a really flavorful, yeasty dough topped with a variety of exotic mushrooms and scrumptious goat cheese, no sauce needed. Drool.
Speaking of mini pizzas, I make them as an appetizer with thin-sliced pear, brie, and herbs (cilantro, parsley, maybe dill . . .). Sounds odd, but it is yummy.
1. Thick crust or thin? Which do you prefer?
Brick oven thin and crispy, like a cracker
2. Your favorite toppings, however strange they may be!
light sauce, light cheese, whole sliced tomatoes (thinly), basil, olive oil and red pepper flakes
I used to love pepperoni, but now its just too greasy for me, and most people love cheese and sauce, not me, I guess I should just do what my dad would do when we were sooo poor, spread sauce on saltines and cut up hot dogs, and sprinkle cheese- instant poor house pizza he would call it, lol
well, since you're asking ;) i love my crust medium, as well. but the toppings? i've been making a lot of white pizza lately, with onions, garlic and motzarella (sp), oh yeah! a good red sauce can make the pizza but i just can't find one i like lately. vidalias are perfect for this...
1.Is nice to be here! je!
2. thin.
3.red onion, mozarella, prawns, frsh tomatoes and some olives and ...more cheese please, huggs! gloria
Im hungry....
I'm like you - in the middle...I like my crust a little on the crispy side. I'm happy with just pizza sauce and mozzarella, sprinkled with hot pepper flakes. I always have a salad with my pizza and love to dip it in the vinegar and oil.
Peace
A 'Thinnish' pliable NY style crust with a spicy red sauce, parmesian cheese and pepperoni.
Thats sounds like Flint's oldest Pizzeria...Sicily's!!!!
Uno's deep dish is DAMN good as well..hehehehehe
Like you Buff, I can and DO make my own crust at times, but why bother when there are fully qualified Italians walking around?
I agree, pizza is becoming more americanized and frankly I love it. I don't eat pizza too often but when I do, I love thin crusts with white sauce. I only like chicken on my pizza, or just vegetables. I am not big on pepperoni or sausages but every once in a while, I crave them. Now, I want pizza... uh oh
eggplant- That first pizza you described sounds great!
ChefE- I never had pizza until I was about 8 yrs. old!
sheri- I make a host of pizzas, depending on my mood...I like a white pizza with Alfredo sauce base..
Gloria- You don't see a seafood pizza around here very often..sounds good!
Odat- Pretty close to the first pizza ever made, except it had fresh basil on it, too..
G-man- This area favors a thicker crust, but Fricanos has a thin one..
Sook- I thought of making a BB-Q flavored pizza, but haven't done it yet...
Last commentor- I can't translate what you said, but thanks for stopping!
Not Thick but not dead thin... sorta inbetween..... I cant do any of the pork bibs and bobs on it but my lads make mega good porkie pizzas....
so I love steak melt which is tiny tiny strips of steak marinated in jerk BBQ sauce and then lots of mozzarella....
I also LOVE veggie pizza with loads of onions and sweet peppers on a BBQ sauce base.... actually I love any pizza even tuna and sweetcorn as long as it dont have nuffin pork on it :)
we make pizza every Saturday, cos I dont cook as such on a saturday so me lads usually knock on up :)
its nice to be back... (((Buff)))
x
Marmy- I hope you really are back!
I agree with you on the crust...hereinafter referred to as Politician's crust :-) I really like almost any clever fusion sytle pizza's that restaurants are putting out these days, but my favorites normal pizza toppings are: Sweet red marinara sauce topped with Italian Sausage, ground beef, mushrooms, black olives, onions, mozarella, Parmesan and a few hot pepper flakes thrown in. Man, I just made myself hungry.
Highlander- Pizza is so like that...many ways to make one, most of them are good- and talking about it makes you hungry!
THIN...NY style (thick on occasion)
Sauces can be sweet or spicy.
I like mushrooms, onions, black olives. Fresh Basil!
Meats...pepperoni..sometimes sausage...like pork too.
My all time fav topping ANCHOVIES!!
...I love both crusts on different days...sometimes in the mood for thin and crispy, and sometimes for thick and doughy....
...Love all veggies..and sometimes just cheese and anchiovies
I consider pizza like naked women. There IS no bad, only different degrees of GOOD.
Lulda- Long time no hear! Not surprised you like NY style- I would too, if I could get the pizza you can!
smArtee- Just learned in the last few years to even eat anchovies! I always thought they were bait!
Heff- That was as profound a statement as I have ever heard!
thin NY Syle with 'shrooms - nom nom
You may not believe this but I don't really like Pizza. :0
Thin crust with sausage, mushrooms, and black olives. I do like the ham with pineapple pizzas sometimes, too.
1. Thin-ish crust, like yours.
2. Broccoli, tomatoes, the requisite seasonings, a touch of olive oil and copious amounts of cheese! If I don't have that, I want a nice red sauce and sausage or ground beef in massive quantities with pounds of mozzarella. I'm not that huge a fan of pizza, however, but the rest of my hungry horde loves it.
I am a trendoid when it comes to pizza. Thin crust, no tomato sauce, asparagus, goat cheese, prosciutto, smoked duck.
Hey there, BD, thanks for your congrats on my Caribbean throwdown win. Don't know how I missed your entry but it looks pretty good! (I've eaten a lot of media noches myself, by the way!)
Used to like thick crust (being from Detroit and land of the Sicilian square pizza) but as I've gotten older, I began to prefer the NY style thin crust...as long as it stays crunchy. If I am on piece two and it's still crunchy and doesn't flop over when I pick it up, it's a winner. Not a huge fan of the Chicago deep dish, too much, it always makes me feel a bit ill after two pieces!
I like good quality mozzarella and sausage. I don't like seafood of any sort on pizza and for me "less is more." Best I've had is in Little Italy fire oven pizza in NY and in Sydney, Australia.
Oh yeah, I'm thinking of a theme for the next throwdown, hoping to post by Friday!
carma- Nice choice!
Ake- Join the world, and quit eating kidney pie! :) Just kidding, my long time friend!
Jen- Sounds like a mix I'd like!
Marjie- If they are going to eat it, dive in!
Fingers- Different, yet sounds pretty good!
Diva- Detroit chick? Alllrrright! Pick something like a pastie, where I have a fighting chance! You earned the win- no doubt by the ones that can cook!
I like pizza about anyway it comes...
..cept for ultra sloppy ones with grease running off them...
...and...
...the ones with the weird fruits on them, like pineapple.
I like a thin crust...really like the flatbread pizzas.
Olive oil, sliced fresh tomatoes instead of sauce, roasted garlic, fresh mozzarella di buffalo all over the place, herbs. That's it. Simple.
I would do a bbq chicken pizza!
I've already told you that the best pizza I ever had was a sauerkraut topped one. Sadly the guy who made it wouldn't give out the recipe. The crust was medium and there was tons of cheese on it...I think some sort of spicy polish type sausage (not in a casing) is the meat he used.
My fave now is a medium thick crust, with red sauce that has a touch of sweetness to it, then lots of mushrooms, chopped red onions, shrimp and cheese. Generally a mix of whatever I have in the house.
My ex used to make tuna fish pizza since he liked anchovies and we didn't have any. Not for me.
I like to buy a round of facaccia bread that has an Italian seasoning blend, sun dried tomato and parmesan cheese already baked in. I slice it in half and add olive oil, seafood (usually shrimp), sliced green olives, thin sliced red onion and lots of cheese on the bottom half and just olive oil on the top. I smush it together and bake it until the cheese is oozing out. The old boy won't even try it but me and my girl have it for a special treat for us. Try dunking the slices into sour cream or a red salsa...oh yum...Sometimes I add a few chugs of Heinz 57 sauce into a carton of sour cream, mix and we use that for a dip. This is the only type of thicker crust that I like.
J-
Hungry for one right now.
J-
I bet a hearty meatball pizza would be good.
J-
1. Thin
2. Anything that I have on hand when the Egg is fired up.
I.G.- Welcome to the blog! I can't handle greasy food like when I was younger!
Barb- Simple, but sounds like high end toppings!
BlondeD- I've meant to try that someday...
J.J.- Sounds like you have tried some interesting combos!
Chris- haven't done one on the grill yet, but a modified my smoker grill where I could!
Hi UncleBuf,
Late to the party, but I figure there's always room for pizza. ;)
1) Crust-I used to swear by thick, but now I get whatever I'm in the mood for. I still prefer the thick over the thin, but when I want a lighter kind of pizza, I opt for the thin.
2) I am a huge fan of pineapple. Skip the ham, I'll take just the pineapple any day. My second favorite is the generic pepperoni, although I prefer to put the turkey pepperoni on myself when I bake pizza at home because it's not as greasy. I detest sausage, but I like any kind of veggie you could dare to put on a pizza.

p.s. I got the job! :)
