Poker Night At Buffalo Dicks House..And A Boo-boo
We have a group of old friends (4 couples) that about 4-6 times a year get together and play a shortened version of Texas Hold'em..at $5 bucks a game per person, it's pretty hard to win a lot of money, but I usually do OK! Last night I won a lot more than anyone else! I beat one friend who had a full house- with a straight flush! I thought he was going to flip..I would have!
I made up some pigs in a blanket (with sausage), and onion wraps (green onions wrapped in cream cheese and dried beef). I forgot to take photos, so I hope there are left overs..
Remember last post with the carrot cake? Well, I lied! I thought I'd made a carrot cake, when in reality I had made a spice cake! With the same kind of frosting, they virtually look the same.. I made the carrot cake yesterday, for my friend who loves it!
Everyone else brings their own beverages and munchies, so we eat between games, and snack all night..
It broke up at midnight, as we were all yawning by then..Wife has to work 2nd shift, so she is trying to sleep this morning- to get ready for a long night..

Sounds like a good time. Funny how much earlier the parties break up when you get "middle-aged", isn't it? :P (I can only say that, because I'm over 50)
Sounds like a great getogether!
Midnight has always been my limit! Not much of a night person I guess. Sounds great and congrats on the big win.
Vick- Ain't it the truth?
Ake- It is always great..good friends, food- and winning!
Fingers- We just aren't late night people anymore.. should have known us when we were younger!
They could have lost 100 Bucks apiece and it would have been worth the price just to partake of some of your goodies Buff...
I won last night too! Picked all three horses AND in the right position. (Sheer dumb luck with a tad of info) I do better with this kind of betting than poker.
Your wife must be a nurse...you talk about shifts... or perhaps a cop? My youngest works ER, nights only. Trauma nurse. Oh the tales.....
G-man- I made 16 pigs, and 20 onion wraps- all gone! I love to make appetizers!
Barb- A Trifecta? Wow! The odds yesterday must have been 100 to 1!!!
I love that game! How do you shorten Hold 'Em?
I've been playing 2/4 with pennies instead of dollars. I get excited when the pot reaches 50 cents.
Jen- We start with 25 chips, first to win all chips is first, last one eliminated is 2nd, 2nd to last one is third.. pays $15, $10, and $5 (only 6 playing last night!)
very cool. we used to have a group that played a couple tmes of year as well, but thn they moved to texas...go figure. smiles. spice cake, carrot cake, i say let them eat cake...
Brian- There really wasn't much difference!
Have you tried pickles, corned beef and cream cheese. I actually like it better than the onion version.
Oh, Dick - that picture looks delish ! I haven't had pigs in a blanket in YEARS, and NEVER with sausage !
Heff MUST DO THIS !
it seems like you are having fun!

some May awards,
Happy Sunday!
ok, everyone together now..."You need to know when to hold em...know when to fold em...."
Can you tell I'm bored to death in the middle of Kansas?
Haha. Our last poker game ended about 9 p.m. Something about bedtimes and kids.
Pigs in a blanket and carrot cake? I wish we were friends IRL.
Angela- I have, and I like them!
Heff- Midwest favorite..and easy to make!
Jingle- It's always fun to get together and take money from old friends!
Kate- We are all older than that!
Momster- We are friends...
Highlander- My son lives in K.C., and I wish we were there...
Sounds like fun! I can't stay up like I did back in the day. My tush was dragging when we were in NYC.
Tracie- Aging isn't what I envisioned.. I thought you just looked older- not get older!
That photo looks yummy...and sounds like you all had a great time! Congrats on winning big!
Ily- I had fun..I don't know if the losers did!
Buffalodick,
Great way to keep in touch! You know that has been a theme of mine for the last month or so, and since I love Hold'em so much--I may have to steal this Tourney set up---ME LIKE EM!
John
Isn't playing for money illegal?[not that I am going to rat you out]
I love spice cake AND carrot cake.
That sounds like a fun night...and I must try pigs with sausage...what a great idea...glad you won..!!
Unknown Caller- You're welcome!
John- We can get in 5-6 games with this format...It's fun!
Uber- Hopefully, the law has bigger fish to fry than us! Both cakes were good!
smArtee- It's how I grew up eating them..better than hot dogs by far!
Sounds like fun (especially since you won)!
sage- I haven't drawn a straight flush in years, while a good friend loses to me with a full house!!
The most important part of a cake is the icing anyway. :) That's the only part I eat.
BlondeD- I think you have a sweet tooth..more like sweet fangs!!!
I don't play cards; never have played poker. Made the hubby teach all the kids to play, though, so they wouldn't be a dumbass like me. Midnight bedtime? Dude! I'm just getting started then! But don't try to talk to me before 10AM, and I'm not going to be too freakin' pleasant at that hour!
Marjie- If someone calls me after midnight, someone has died- or will die!
I would give you the $55 to eat your food.
I love poker...especially strip poker...seems I always loose thought!!hahahahhah
Hey there BD! Sounds like a great time. Can I come next time? Sorry I haven't been by lately, life just keeps getting in the way of my blogging. Thanks for stopping by. Hopefully I'll be back to my regular writing and visiting again soon. Have a great week :-)
yay on the straight flush. Shame on you fooling us with that imposter carrot cake ;-)
Hahahahaha@ Darn Girl. Isn't she funny[and sweet]?
Carrot cake, spice cake...I will eat both. I have the worst luck when it comes to such betting games.
Great cakes and great fun! Congrats on your winnings!!
KB- "Finger" food is one of my favorites to make and eat!
Darngirl- We are to an age where naked isn't what we want to see while eating...
carma- Pantry is back in order, now can find what I'm looking for.. :)
Uber- Well, she seems to have a one track mind!
Jingle- And to you, also!
Pink- we might go to a casino Friday- hope my luck holds!
Martha- Sometimes it can be hard to have a little fun...
Ruth- Thanks!
Oh you- I was drooling over the idea of that carrot cake!
My mom made spice cake with raisins growing up, but it must not have made an impression on me like carrot cake, because I cannot remember if it was good or not???
It was here I learned of onion wraps!
