The Truck Driver Special And Steak With Hash Browns

The Truck Driver Special... every Diner, Drive-in, and Dive has a version of this, and there are many! Some kind of pork or beef, sliced thin, in an appropriate gravy, over mashed potatoes or noodles, or rice, or toast!
Thursday night, I used sliced pork, gravy, and toast..it's a filling, satisfying meal that takes little thought or prep time! I peppered it pretty heavily, but wife loved it!
Last night, a couple of broiled steaks with hash browns made a good meal too.. Montreal Steak Seasoning is getting to be my "go to" seasoning for a simple steak broiled! Crispy hash browns are a perfect match to this- none left over! I do have some steak left and am thinking a steak and potato soup tonight- but who knows!
Enjoy your Memorial Week-end, but think of the fallen who preserved our freedoms, and be grateful...

That first pic made me think of the road trips the family took when I was a kid. We'd stop for a late breakfast along the way, and when we did, dad would look for a truck stop somewhere. He'd always say if you saw a bunch of big rigs outside the place would have good food, lots of it and at a reasonable price.

This dish was on every menu I remember. Ordered it numerous times.

OMG--like our local Band Hootie and The Blowfish named one of their albums-

Scattered, Smothered and Covered.

You can't get much better taters than Crisp Hash Browns!

I am a purist and only want Ketchup- LOL!

Everything you make looks good to me! I'm trying to get my boys interested in cooking. The oldest watches The Food Network but just likes to talk about food - not actually cook it.

I think the truck driver ran through my house first, hit me and then headed straight in your direction for dinner :0) I started with my trainer and my arms hurt to type, oh guitar too...so now I wish I could reach in and grab this plate of food, I swear I can smell the goodness- too tired to cook...

You know those huge spice containers that you get from Sams? Montreal Steak Seasoning has been the only one I have ever used up completely.

Brian- Next post will cover the soup..
carma- I suspect you will!
John- Crisp hash browns are a treat!
Tracie- One of my sons loves to cook, the other one could care less!

With a title like "Truck Driver's Special" I felt like I was on the road between Flagstaff, Az and Gallup, NM. Thanks. Looks great!

same thing at thanksgiving, thinly sliced turkey over stuffing with gravy. I had it a few weeks ago at some cateteria type place that all the old folks rape and clog the entire parking lot up and then take an hour to walk the 100 feet to the front door.

buffalodick said...

Gene- They are everywhere!
Bama- Forgot turkey! That works too..My peeve with the elderly is they have all day to eat, but still go at noon and 6pm...

Love Montreal Steak Seasoning. Just had a little piece of steak last done that way, with a baked potato. Love it.

buffalodick said...

Fingers- With coarse salt, coarse black pepper, garlic, onion- that is the basis for a good seasoning for steak!

Never knew that's what it was called, but I sure had it often enough years ago.
I love hash browns...extra brown and crispy.
Imagine you're cooking today, I'm to be a guest tonight, no cooking!
Happy Memorial Day!

Buff,
Yes thank God for the veterans. Those that are dead and those that are alive. I am very grateful for all of them.

I am also grateful for comfort foods. I so love the hot sandwiches with mashed potatoes and LOTS of gravy.

The only thing I would add to your steak and hash brown plate is 2 over-easy fried eggs and some gravy for the browns.

As usual I am now craving them. (smile)
