Computers-How Did We Ever Get Here?

Today, I must play "catch up" on all the reports I am behind on at work. All sales people in our company are hooked into our computer system from home, so if we want we can work 24/7! When I started in the business, computers did the billing and inventory only. People placed orders thru the mail, or phoned them in. No car phones, no e-mails, no CAD,etc.
With the innovations in computer technolgy, I now work more hours than I ever have! My cell phone minutes average 2500 a month(over 40 hrs.!) My work computer time is probably 25hrs. We as an advanced nation, now work harder for less.
On the upside we can play games, communicate with friends, shop w/out the driving/searching hours, and used properly-have more leisure time!
It has changed America and the World. People of different generations communicate differently, and have problems because of it. On the other hand, the world has probably never been able to communicate better! I do not know where it's going, but I am going to try and keep up as best I can! Good Luck to all of you trying to do the same.

I do my best to work only 40 hours a week. When I have considered switching jobs, many of them say, "MUST BE ABLE TO WORK OVERTIME". Always kind of made me wonder, but maybe this is the very reason.

Lynda-Sales used to be like stealing money, only easier! Now with Management types spending half their day covering their butts with reports-made out by guess who?

we need to be more like europeans and have months off for mandatory vacation.

Pink-You are right. We will someday, but probably too late for me to enjoy it!

While I think the advancement of technology is wonderful...it does have it's drawbacks, like you mentioned.

A while back my kids were talking about how things "used to be" before we purchased our firt computer and hooked up the web. All it took was for me to hear that they missed doing things as a family, the times we used to bake, go for walks, play board games, build tents, ect. for me to seriously cut back EVERYONE's time on the internet.

The internet is nice, but it feels really good to get back to basics, you know?

Spidey- The company I work for has more computer capabilities than it needs. I have only recently started blogging, and I agree-you do have to balance it.

I can't keep up with all of the technology out there.
I have the most basic computers, fax, copier, scanner, cell phone.
I must be the only person in the civilized world that doesn't own an iPod or MP3 player.

Kayla- I literally have the same set-up!
