Onion Soup, With A Few Twists!

Wifey has been hitting the dentist's office a bit lately, and asked for soup last night. So many soups, but what haven't we had recently? Onion soup! Simple, peasant style onion soup! Well, that didn't happen either! I cannot just make something the way they tell you to- I have to put my spin on it..
1. 1 can chicken broth
2. 1 can beef broth
3. 2 onions, one red, one yellow, chopped
4. Black pepper, chopped garlic, savory, to taste
Heat and simmer all above for 1 hour
5. Top with a medley of cheeses (I used white cheddar, Colby jack, and yellow cheddar)
Melt cheeses on top of soup in microwave, top with flavored croutons
So simple, so good!
I made those out of a tube crescent rolls to go along with the soup..my wife loves them, and I actually like them too!
I need a break out idea to get cooking in high gear...tonight it looks like bacon and eggs, as she was back at the dentists- again!

I love those crescent rolls. I could eat the whole tube's worth.

I definitely do not like going to the dentist-so, I can see why your wife would like a bit of comfort food like onion soup-or a good breakfast food.

I don't think I have met anyone who does not like Pillsbury crescent rolls :-)

Velva- Ate soup and rolls, no complaints!

Ouch. Tell your wife I feel for her!
Nothing like soup when you can't chew! Sounds good to me and everyone loves those crescent rolls....you made croutons out of them? Clever man!

That's definitely a different take on onion soup.

My wife is much like you. She always has to add a pinch of this or a dash of that to a recipe.

Oh, YEAH! I want some of that and I'll be making it since I have 2 days off. Maybe it'll help my family finally kick this cold they've had.

Thank you!

That looks heavenly. I LOVE soups. I especially love mushroom and cantonese wonton soup.

Getting old sucks, and having a lot of dental work done sucks, but having a husband to cook -- totally makes up for it all!

Chef E said...

Okay Jeanne rub it in :( , lol, when I am under the weather, whether it by the drill or germs, I am stuck with can-O-soup, Progresso Low Sodium (I know), but I do not think they will ever have this yummy flavor! Oh I forgot I am buying that no sugar low sodium stock for emergencies, so that works too!

Lovin that soup! Those croisants are very good and so are their big biscuits. Great for biscuits and gravy! Now I'm really hungry.

I like the idea of topping with a medley of cheeses rather than one kind!

I love simple soups. My wife got me hook on soup and I have been a soup man since.

The Chinese can make soup from a rock and passing thought!

I had to draw the line at snake penis soup though. lol

buffalodick said...

RLM- Snake penis? Who ever got hungry enough to even try it!!??!!

Tracie said...

You're doing better than I am. I made pancakes for dinner last night.

buffalodick said...

tracie- Almost made waffles for tonight, but will post on Scotch Eggs instead!

Marjie said...

Poor wifey! She has my sympathy. If I need more dental work, will you send soup?

buffalodick said...

Margie- tonight- Scotch eggs! Snackie treat with toppings!

Mike said...

I love everything about onions, but I have never been one for onion soup. It is really kind of strange, actually.

Chris said...

That is easy, I like it! I need some simple and quick ones like this. Hope your wife's chompers are feeling better!

buffalodick said...

otin- I like them cooked better than raw..
Chris-Next post, Scotch eggs, with a twist!

Vickie said...

BD! Love onion soup and your twist sounds great! I haven't made it in ages and should do something about that before the weather warms up.

buffalodick said...

Vick- Simple and good..more cheese!

I sympathize with wifey....did not have fluoridated water growing up :( Hope the worst is over for her.

Simple soups are the best. I like that your version seems easy to veg-an-ize.
