Leftovers Don't have To Taste Like Leftovers....

Another blinger of a storm hit us Tuesday, making driving a 1st gear event! Got stuck in a parking lot, but was so slippery, two guys pushing moderately got me rolling... Tuesday was colder than Monday- if you can believe it, so another stick-to-your-ribs supper was made. I'm not a cheapskate, but I actually find it fun to create something different out of leftovers! Sundays' post showed food on that day. The following day, I took the left-over potatoes, chopped some broccoli, made cheesy broccoli soup in a crock pot. Good stuff! Tuesday night, I took left-over pot roast, chopped, fresh mushrooms and celery, chopped, mixed with leftover gravy, water, and soy sauce, simmered until tender and bubbly, and put in over brown rice for a quick, warming meal. Three meals, two out of leftovers, none tasted the same, all good! It's almost like a game with me- at the end of the game, dinner!

I am leftover challenged - my leftovers are served looking just like they were the first time. I'm always amazed at people who have the ability to discover completely new meals with last night's whatever.

I hate throwing food away, so if I can make something of it I do!

this is the only time this applies "its not if you win or lose its how you play" because three meals is a winner here

dana- How kind! I do better at life when challenged.. Don't we all?
Ake- Good taste combined with intelligence- we're not bad people, are we?
DogB- I know you and I(between us!) could show folks how to do this dance! You show both commom sense and creativity in your food and drinks...

Since I've been forced to stay at home, it has become a challenge to me, not to throw food away. Best of all its the cash I save. When I think back to my Nan, she could make a heart-warming dish from a smile and a dishcloth (bet you don't want that recipe)?

I have a problem with leftovers tasting like leftovers.

Queenie- I read about that spread you put out for Ake& Hubby- a feast like that in an upscale restaurant would have cost a fortune!
marmy- I was brought up by folks who lived through the Great Depression and WWII ! My Dad always said, "This family will never eat the stuff I had to eat in the Thirties and during the War!"
rog- Always have food, and always pay the heat bill in Michigan!
leighann- He wouldn't even have known these were leftover!
bina- I guess I'm simple- they all hit the spot!
lynda- Secret is to incorporate at least half the leftovers with new, fresh ingredients...

One can really make ever so many dishes using leftovers. We usually make them to make stuffed parathas( bread) or in sandwiches with cheese and sauce!

happy Valentine's Day Buf! It seems you guys are really facing a tough winter this time!

annie- A game where everybody wins!
pink- Good batch, too!
mel- just makes good sense to try and make something out of them..
mona- Happy Valentines' Day to you too, dear!

Saw your lie at Beth's place. Ya know, it's amazing how many adults I know that did the SAME thing at freaking church camp when they were growing up. My step-son (who lives with his mother) goes about three times a year, but hates going to church. I try to tell his dad why he wants to go to church camp so bad but his reply? "They have chaperones (?sp) and can't do that stuff." Yea, RIIGGHHHTT.

We never eat leftovers... I guess its because I can't cook, so the food is not good the first time. Everytime I come here, I get hungry!

Hope you don't mind, but I added you to my blog.

Hi, Buff! At this late in the game of commenting I feel like a "leftover"!! (lol)

With just the two of us, we are big leftover eaters...but I've gotten lazy and stopped trying to be creative with them. You inspire me to do better. Won't hubs be surprised!!!
