Amish White Bread- For A 1st Try, Not Bad!

Saturday was snowy, and only left the house once. I had baked a pizza, my usual home-made crust, home-made sauce, sausage, pepperoni, mushroom cookie sheet sized pizza! The dough raised nicely, so encouraged by this I decided to bake a couple of loaves of bread! I would rather cook than bake- baking is fussier than cooking, and I don't do fussy well! Found a recipe for Amish white bread that sounded pretty good, so away we went. I'm getting the hang of Mega Mixer (Kitchen Aid, monster-sized!) and all went as planned. I had a rare patient day, where I wasn't rushing the dough as it rose. The recipe was good, as it came out about like it was supposed to! It's a dense, sweet, soft white bread with more substance than higher rising white bread you might get in a bakery. Pink- This one's for you!
A Pubic (strike that!)Public Announcement: Dutch Bitch is having a "Worship me" contest, and urge all single males out there to join in! Who knows what you might win.....

Ah, that looks good: home baked bread! No bread skills here. Well, maybe, if you count the eating kind.

Aha someone else who just can't wait long enough for the yeast to do it's stuff.

Now if I were a single male I might well take you up on that offer, but as I'm not......
Cheers

So, where's the recipe for all of your fellow bread bakers??

Jen- I kill yeast like most people kill cockroaches! I really am proud when a baked product comes out close to the picture!
Maddy- It's why I hate baking- too precise, and slower than molasses in January....
dana- AllRecipes- punch in Amish White Bread..

DogB- Too sweet for a sammich- just butter, or honey, or preserves, or peanut butter, etc.!

Rog- Home made bread always tastes best when topped with something simple!
mel- I love bread far more than potatoes!
annie- I didn't think about that until you mentioned it! My nose is a bit plugged up, and I missed out on that part of the fun of home made bread...
odat- Learning to use something properly does enhance the experience! I'm a guy, and refuse to read instructions or directions!
Pink- Was exactly as described- my wife literally ate one whole loaf yesterday!

I love home made bread! I don't do it the hard way though I have a bread making machine. Unfortunately I'm off bread at the moment being on a diet, because I can't stop at one or two pieces, I'd eat the whole loaf!

I love baking, but with bread, I have to admit the bread machine makes it a lot easier!

Nothing like homemade bread....We have an Amish baked goods stand here at the Reading Terminal Market, and I can tell you that your loaf looks just as good as theirs.

Wow! That looks appetizing! I love the smell of baking as it fills the house. Specially if it is cinnamon roll baking anywhere I feel like hijacking the house! :)

Ake-My bread machine died, so I now use a big mixer with a dough hook.
Casdok- Thank-you!
lynda- Always tasted good, but the loaf always looked odd..
Beth- Who doesn't like fresh bread?
leighann- Hard to believe people had to know how to make bread years ago..
UrbanV- Thank-you! That's good to know!
mona- I must try to make cinnamon rolls someday!

Every time we go on our family camping trip we always stop at the Amish "store". They always have the best breads there. Your bread looks so good. Makes me want to drive out to Amish Country.

R.L.L.- I have made worse! Me and yeast have a dicey relationship!
Chels- So happy to hear from my favorite Buckeye!(If there could ever be such a person!!) Drive further north, apparently I can cook fluent Amish!

I can still remember the smell in my aunt's kitchen... she baked an awesome loaf of bread.

I loved it when she let me help her kneed the dough... Good times!
