Mini Meme Time! BB-Q...

I will be in The Taste of Grand Rapids KCBS sanctioned BB-Q cook off in a couple of weeks.. I thought it would be a good question to throw at you! It doesn't matter if you make it yourself, or buy it at a restaurant....
1. What is your favorite BB-Q food?
2. What is your least favorite?
It's hard to have BB-Q that isn't good, but try!
I really like chicken that has been marinated, smoked- usually thighs with skin on, skin crisped and coated with a good finishing sauce towards the end of the cooking time!
I've taken 3rd and 4th place with Beef Brisket in the state, but I don't enjoy it as much as most people seem to..go figure!! I had some at Smokey Bones once, I swore was beef jerky!
Have fun with this, I enjoy your comments on these Mini-Memes!

I think everything tastes wonderful barbecued. My favourite would probably be beef ribs. Big honking buffalo sized beef ribs. Then a close second would be pork ribs, followed by chicken. So now you have me thinking about bbq beef ribs. I am going to have to make some.

I like most if not all bbq'd items but I cant stand burnt sauce - I would prefer my meat cooked with only a little dry rub and the sauce on the side....

Barbara said...

Ribs come in first. A whole pig is a really close second. (They still do those, don't they?) I'm a sucker for that crackly skin.

Brisket is my least favorite.

Chicken's in the middle. I like it, but like it fried better.

Your mini memes are always fun, BD!

I like BBQ'ed wings and whole pig best. Ribs would be high on the list too.

I'm not big on BBQ'ed fruits - like done on a grill pineapple.

Good luck in the competition! Hope you win it all.

I think there's a difference between smoked, grilled, and BBQ'd - and you'd be the guy to explain it :)

Whole pig, complete with cracklin's, would be #1 in my book (whatever category it falls in). But I don't if those are allowed in BBQ competitions? Seems like you've gotta know a guy, or a guy who knows a guy . . .

I look forward to reading more about your BBQ adventures!

That's cool that you'll be in a cook-off!

My fave is pulled pork and my least fave is chicken.

Jeanne Estridge said...

The best I ever had was in Paducah, KY -- and the barbecue wasn't bad either.

carolina style (vinegar base) bbq....

grasshoppers....they may be crunchy, but the bbq sauce still doesnt help with the taste...

Pat Tillett said...

Favorite is any kind of meat.
Worst is any kind of meat overcooked..

Kate said...

I can't believe I like bbq shredded pork. Because I despise ham. Weird. And the bbq beef they serve at the hospital. DISGUSTING.

Favorite has to be Pulled Pork... I do like Carolina style vinegar based sauce (almost fighting words in Kansas City)

My least favorite is anything with a thick coating of overly sweet BBQ sauce (as most KC BBQ joints serve). If I have to pick food, I will agree with Brisket. Much too much effort, for not as much pay off.

I'm abit bbq challenged. Really not too many bbq joints in Denver and I don't do it much...Best bbq I ever had was in Tallahasee Florida. I'm assuming it was Carolina style, vinegar based. I'm with Dave, hate that overly sweet stuff. Gotta love bbq beef.

BBQ'ed chicken. Hands down, my favorite. When I was a little girl my mother always let us choose what we wanted to eat on our birthday. I always asked for BBQ'ed chicken. AND it had to be made on real charcoal.. oh now you have me wanting some right now...

Just telling it like it is said...

OMG are they taping it? That would be great to see you on the cooking channel

Heff- This proves what I believe- everybody is different!
Gloria- Like both your choices..
Fingers- I smoked Buffalo ribs once, some liked them- some hated them!
DogB- High content sugar sauces are the ones than burn quickly..
Barb- There are contests for whole pig, but more in the Carolinas..
I.G.- We're small potatoes...we hope to get a ribbon or two!
Eggplant- True BB-Q is done with indirect heat, using charcoal and or wood as a heat source..grilled is over direct heat, at a higher temp and shorter cooking time.
BlueV- I've been in this one for about 12 years straight..
Jeanne- You nut!
Brian- I don't eat land based bugs!
Pat- Any dried out meat is a crime! Unless it's jerky!
Kate- Good, smoked pork can taste like a lightly cured ham!
Griller- Michigan seems to favor the sweet sauces..I've been lightening mine with lemons, vinegar, and more heat.
Lea Ann- I like beef short ribs, but they are not a category..
G-man- I like most of it too..
Good Cook- Good choice!
Darngirl- Sometimes a news crew is there- local!

oh yes, it has to be pork, anything pork!
and my least would be fish. i love me a good piece of fish but i can't stand it bbq'd.
i can't wait to hear what you decide to cook, and congratulations on your previous wins!! and i thought you just cooked for our entertainment ;)

buffalodick said...

Sheri- I have many trophies for chili cook offs, and BB-Q team has won about a dozen State ribbons, 5th through 1st!

Vickie said...

LOVE a juicy rare ribeye or pork spare ribs.

I guess I'd say chicken is my least favorite (because it's sometimes dry) but I still think it's pretty good.

Mike said...

I actually love Italian sausage on the grill, or a good steak!!

Full-On-Forward said...

Pork Ribs- done your way and with your rub! I'd love to try those,

Worst-- would be a poorly prepared Hash...YUK if'n it's not done correctly! or a Fat Batch of Pull Pork--greasy! Can't have that in BBQ!!!

sage said...

Pork would be my favorite... liver bbq (if anyone has barbecued it) would be my least favorite. What's the dates for the taste of GR?

The Blonde Duck said...

Brisket, Beef Ribs and Smoked Chicken. And sausage. :)

And turkey.

Anonymous said...

The best for me is the slow cooked whole lamb or hog. I like a rub. I only like my sauce on the side.

At home it's usually chicken that I opt for. I love fish, veggies, hotdogs, burgers, brats, steak and my favorite turkey has been cooked for hours on a webber with a combo of charcoal and oak wood for the heat.

The only thing I don't like is any of it if over-cooked, burnt or sloppy with BBQ sauce.

I also enjoy the small ribs one of our local chinese restraunts serve. The sauce is spicy, sweet and vinegery and usually not too much of it.

Fun Meme.

John- I love ribs, but everybody does!
sage- July 23-24 at John Ball park- Butterworth st side...
BlondeD- You like it all!
J.J.- When I smoke turkey, its usually a bone in turkey breast...

I'm a pork girl but living in the Middle East means that often I have to go for chicken instead!

What fun!

1. Definitely gotta go with the brisket...

2. Chicken, not so much...

Stephanie Faris said...

I bought some pre-cooked ribs at the store, tossed them in the slow cooker with an onion, and they were AWESOME! I'm not picky about my ribs, though.

buffalodick said...

E.D.- I see your problem!
louise- We all have a different set of taste buds!
Steph- That works, and isn't as much work!

1. What is your favorite BB-Q food?
All things, and a little char please

2. What is your least favorite?
Is that even allowed LOL, the question, slather some sauce on most things and I will eat it!

tavolini said...

I like the greens and the green beans the best ;)

I'll always dip corn bread into the sauce to make sure its okay!

good lord, we miss you.
