To My Father's Loyal Blog Readers

This is Craig, Richards son. Richard passed away this morning unexpectedly. I know that he really appreciated this community and considered many of you friends so I thought it would be important to let you all know. Since his retirement this blog was very important to him and his life long passion of cooking. I am sorry to have to tell you all this in this fashion. He was loved and will be missed. Thank you all for being his friends and inspiring him to continue cooking right up till the end.

I am terribly saddened and am in shock.

Blogs are visited not for their content but more for the personality of the person behind the blog. Your father had a lot of personality and really was a star around the blog community. I will miss him.

I will say a prayer for him and your family.

Craig,

When my husband died a few months ago, Buf was so kind. He was concerned and only had solace and kind words to offer. On one occasion he said " I can't imagine what it must feel to lose a spouse!" Of course now he will never know, and I don't know whether it is good news or bad. But those very words make me think of your mother and I can very well imagine what she must be going through, since she spent a major part of her life with one so loving and caring.

Thank you all for your comments and prayers over the last week. My father was laid to rest on Friday, the minister did a fine job reflecting my fathers personality and accomplishments. We printed out all the comments that you made and created a folder that was read by many at the visitation. It was very moving for those that looked it over. I plan on going through all of my fathers posts and creating a cookbook to carry on his name and his passion for cooking. I also plan on continuing his teams presence at the State of Michigan BBQ cook off, as I helped him with it the past 3 years and feel like I can do him justice. Thank you all for being his friend.

I've been a slacker in the blogworld lately, so I was just catching up on my friends' blogs and discovered this sad news.

I always enjoyed your father's witty musings and "tell it like it is" approach.

It was an honor to "virtually" know him. My sincerest sympathies to you and your family.

This comes as such a shock. My condolences to the family

Dear Buff,
One year ago today the world lost you. I still think of you a lot and miss stopping in here and seeing what you say on my blog. Every so often I will be trying a new recipe and I'll think "I should send this one to Buff." and then I remember you are no longer here. Perhaps you can see them from where you are. I hope there is a cooking heaven for you and lots of others that you can swap recipes and ideas with. Are you calling out to me? Seems funny that I happen to come here exactly on the one year date. Go figure! Eerie...don't you know?

RIP my friend and know that you are remembered, though of often and missed by so many of us. My thoughts are with you and your wife and two sons today. I hope life and time is helping them heal.

I'm not sure how or why, but today I thought about some of the great people I've met while blogging. You are right up there with the best of them.

Just thinking about BD, and cannot stop thinking about him when I get in BBQ discussions and all he taught me. I lost my daughter and parents, so I know how hard it is to want to come back to their stuff and find bits and pieces of their spirit, and their words.

Hope peace has found him and you...

It's been a long time since I blogged and this was one of the first sites I came back to... BD will be sorely missed in the bloggosphere. My thoughts are with you and your family.

Read one of your old comments on my blog today and now I see it's almost two years to the day since you left us. You are missed.

Ironic that I should come here just to see if your blog is still up and it's one day to the anniversary of your second year gone. My time flies. What a great wit you were Buffy.

Still missing you and Mutley.

Stumbled on this great blog and sadly read the last entry first. Read a few of Buff's last entries and then decided to start at the beginning and I read the entire blog from beginning to end. It was like reading a good book but knowing the outcome. When I got to the June 2010 entries, my eyes began tearing up, knowing what was coming. Buff had a wonderful sense of himself. It was so evident that he loved his family and was loved by them. Reading the comments was fun - he was loved by his followers and there was so much respect shown going both ways. I wish I had been able to read the blog and get to know Buff via his blog. I will miss Buff even though I came to his blog in 2013. A genuine human being is
immortalized in Buff's blog. 2/7/13

What a lovely comment from barbara. I considered Buffy a friend and he was great fun, a great cook and a great man. I miss him. It's coming up to the 3 year anniversary of his death already.

He is still remembered in blogland. xoxox
