My July Smackdown Entry...

We were practicing Monday for the BB-Q side dishes, and tried a few different things, settling on this dish for our vegetable entry. We battered and deep fried green beans! Simple, incredibly good- with a creamy dip for added flavor! They were crisp, firm, flavorful, and the dip was creamy yet with the addition of hot sauce- it had a nice zip to it! I know there will be more colorful vegetable side dishes, but for flavor- these were very tasty!
I'll let you know how we did after the cook-off!

We love tempura green beans - and just so you know how cutting edge you are we went to our favorite little french bistro last friday night and BAM - on the appetizer menu was Tempura Green beans with a lemon, garlic aioli (fancy name for dip)...

Good Cook- These were tempura- simply add ice to batter for extra cold!

I love everything fried! I'm too afraid to try to fry anything myself, though. Just as well since it's better for my arteries if I limit my intake.

Good luck, can't wait to hear how you did. you can't go wrong with anything fried, espeically if there's dip involved.

In Texas they'll deep fry anything (including butter). I've actually had these - gooood stuff. :)

At first I thought that they were Jalapena poppers! I love them!

I've got to try me some fried green beans! Did you use sour cream for the sauce?

Pat Tillett said...

Yum! I could eat a few dozen of them right now for dinner, if they were sitting here...

Sharon Rudd said...

Oh, yeah, these tempura fried beans sound - and look - delectable! Do tell more about your sauce. Is it as pink as it looks in that photo? Seems like it would take a huge amount of hot sauce in, say, sour cream, to give it that color. I'm dying to know.

I just had a batch of deep fried (in beer batter)fresh asparagus with a honey & hot mustard dip. OMGawd..to die for. I think I have tried almost everything...even snicker's bars battered and deep fried. Next I'm trying deep fried dill pickles. I think battered and deep fried bacon would be a bit much but people love it.
Good luck at the cook-off.

Have you tried the aidemama beans from trader joe's?

I never tasted anything like those!

Yum! There's a pub up the street that makes these....they make eating fried food semi-healthy. Good luck!

I love those things! A chinese buffet near us made them with a tempura batter that were so good. You have a nice batter on yours, great color. Any secret ingredients behind that color or is it all in the cooking? Looks wonderful.

:) I bet you don't need much practice.

Hows the cook off going?

What a great idea! I despise fresh green beans (I know, I'm weird) but I think deep frying anything will get me to like them.
