Rigatoni Gigante

This pasta shape intrigued me! It was essentially rigatoni, only bigger! I took the Italian flavored meat loaf I had left, and broke it up into little pieces.. I mixed it with a red pasta sauce, and simmered while I grated Romano and Parmesan cheese. I sliced some lightly smoked Provolone and topped the pasta red sauce mix with all these cheeses. Baked for 30 minutes at 350F, it was a classic Italian flavored dish that was quite filling!

Filling and delicious. Smoked provolone sounds interesting.

I'm not a big fan of pasta, but I have a houseful who vote otherwise. This looks good.

Ily- Lightly smoked! Not as moist as Mozzarella, but more flavor!
Marjie- Easy, and the pasta was a large part of the texture...

Gosh how I love pasta, but with HBP I have to watch it...yours makes me want to cheat on the eating! This is one pasta I have never tried yet, not even stuffed manicotti here in the land of Italian...

Brian- We were going to Sam's Club today..I used what was left in the house!
Helene- Diets aren't allowed between T-day and New Year's!!!!
Velva- Kids would like it too!
Chris- Same flavors, different shape!
Griller- Sauce should have been a bit thinner- to get into the rigatoni..
Chef- First time user myself..shells could be stuffed to make it meat free- but not cheese free!
BlueV- Kind of a can't miss dish..

Just telling it like it is said...

I once saw a salmon mouse placed in this type of pasta...I'm not sure I would like salmon mouse but I definetly think I would like this dish!!!(cream sauce)

Can one eat the pasta tubes individually or do they all melt into a lasagna like consistency?

YUM!! Those are Princess Nagger's and hubby's favorite noodles! :)

buffalodick said...

Darngirl- Had a typical pasta, red sauce, and beef taste- but the rigatoni had a nice texture..
EnternallyD- I hold my rants down to twice a year, but I eat everyday!
Uber- Not as big as Manicotti tubes, this was somewhere in between!
Highlander- Went to Sam's Club yesterday- some good food will be coming!

Looks excellent! I'm all about buying odd shaped pasta. I have these oversize macaroni that I'm wondering what to do with :)

buffalodick said...

My first husband was second-generation Italian, so I've been around a lot of Italian cuisine, but I've never seen rigatoni on that scale before!

buffalodick said...

Jeanne- Me either, but it was pretty good!

pinknest said...

Wow, that is giant! Which just means more cheese!! I approve.

You are very creative at re-purposing leftovers into a whole new dish. I am intrigued!!!

Katherine- I do my best work when cornered! I think on my feet, I don't plan too much. Problem solving is the World's way to make me focus! I'm not a cheapskate, nor do I have a plan to feed the world- but I really approach left-overs as a problem to be solved- lest good food go into the trash.. Food is an easy thing to obtain in our country, but I just hate to throw food out, because I did not respect for it's life-giving qualities other folks would want food for in the first place.. This Christmas, please give to your local food banks- 10 bucks to you is a good meal for many folks that don't have much..
I know you have a big heart, and a kind soul- and I know you will do something to help!
I love the line in the song "Feed
the World, let them know it's Christmas time"..
Next post will be a Mini-Meme about this!
