What Do You Eat When A Feast Is Coming Thursday?

I was going to post about a really great raspberry crisp I made, but a certain wife of mine seems to have made off with it before I could take a photo... It was full of berries, not too sweet, and pretty easy to make..
This week is a tuffy for picking out what to cook and eat before Thanksgiving..Monday I made chicken and cheese open faced sandwiches.. Simple stuff..make a cheese sauce of your liking, mix cooked cubes of boneless chicken breasts in the sauce, spread on a half a bun, and broil. My mom used to make these when I was a kid, and I couldn't get enough of them!
Our T-day menu is planned- traditional all the way! Roast turkey, sage sausage dressing, mashed potato casserole, gravy, an Asian flavored green bean/bean sprout casserole, rolls, and graham cracker crust pumpkin pie... Only five of us this year, so very manageable sized group...
Happy Thanksgiving to all!

Happy Thanksgiving to you too BD. And darn that wife! You'll just have to make it again. I've got the rest of the week off, so just finished up my post about your chili. I'll let it sit there for awhile, simmer, then I'll review it again and post it this evening. I-am-tell-ing-you, delicious.

Happy T-day to you... Do you share the holiday cooking with your wife? Mine is starting to feel a bit left out, and we had an interesting... discussion (small (very very) fight (very small, but a fight non the less) about Thursday. All is worked out, but i would be interested to hear how other guys that cook work this out

The menu sounds super. Happy Thanksgiving Buff. :)

Please send a Thanksgiving care package so I don't have to cook this year. Thank you!

The one thing I enjoy, making the pumpkin pie, has been ruined because of the pumpkin shortage (who knew?). I had to BUY one! It better be good.

Happy Turkey Day to you and yours, Buff!

Happy Thanksgiving to you and your family! That raspberry crisp must've been great ;)

We're headed up to Michigan tomorrow--Go Lions!

MMMMMMM. Ponders over question.

What do I eat when a feast is coming Thursday?

You. lol. Oh. That sounded so bad.

A problem, I know.
I had a Lean Cuisine last night! It's only me for a couple more days, then only my daughter will be here. She comes Thanksgiving day and we'll be eating out a lot until next Monday. A respite for me before the mad, busy season starts.

Your menu sounds great!

Hubbys been traveling so soup has been my saving grace...and for the first time in eleven years it will just be the two of us, so my menu is ultra light, but I like that pie idea!

We're taking it easy in the food department until the big day too.

I'm making a simple chicken dish today and fish tomorrow.

But I'm excited for Thursday. I'm making cornish game hens since it's just the 2.5 of us this year, but I'm doing up the side dishes.

Happy T-Day, Buff! We're going traditional, too, although my 10 year old says we "really need" to have 22 foods. Why, I don't know. We have 16 definite and another 3 maybes, so I'm cooking...a lot...

Happy Turkey day to you! We had panini's last night and tonight it is a simple pork loin. We are guests for Thanksgiving at our neighbor's house, so I'm just responsible for a dessert and a side dish, but need to make treats to bring up to our daughter in college. She wants me to bring leftovers from Turkey day, but 5 hours in a cooler probably isn't a good idea!

Highlander- I'm going to start experimenting with crisps other than apple.. So glad the chili came out!
Griller- I cook, she cleans up the place for company... I do count on her for some of the serving...
Brian- With the chicken and cheese, they can be made on small buns and reheated..
Ake- I'd like to get a little wilder, but family expects traditional stuff..
Finn- Michigan has never seen so many pumpkins.. I think they just jack the price up claiming shortage!
Tavolini- It was very berry! Lions have won two games- what more do you want? Point spread is about 11.. Not enough!
Shelly- That will make me gobble..
Barb- I have to start working up an appetite- now!
Chef- I think it will be tasty and easier than making two pies!
K- Did those for Christmas last year, and just went nuts for them!
Marjie- I miss a household full of family eating together..
Tam- On ice , they should be fine...
BlondeD- That's my wife's favorite- pumpkin pie!
Darngirl- Many year's ago, I told my guests we were having turkey surprise... Surprise! It wasn't turkey, but a whole prime rib, done perfectly...

Happy Thanksgiving to you and your family, Buff!!! ♥

buffalodick said...

otin- I wish I could to all my friends!
Jules- Just a simple treat from my youth.. Happy T-day!
Lulda- They are kind of fun, in a work intensive way.. Enjoy!
Pink- Should go well- I hope! Going to Matt's parents for one of their feasts?
Red- I'd like that, too! Have a good Holiday!

Just telling it like it is said...

Nice surprise!!...I never had prime rib on Thanksgiving but I did have some really bad food!

Liz Mays said...

I think it's kinda hard to come up with something to eat before Thanksgiving too. I always try to make something where there won't be leftovers. There's so many from Thanksgiving. I don't want more!

The Good Cook said...

I agree with you - it's hard coming up with meals with T-day so close. Plus with all the baking and food prep, I'm just not hungry. Our Thanksgiving starts today - with a Thanksgiving meal this evening with friends. It's a tradition we started years ago. Then tomorrow is family - so I'm cooking two big turkey meals less than 24 hours apart!! LOL.. fun, but filling!!

buffalodick said...

Darngirl- I did a Crown roast of pork once, with stuffing in the middle, and they grumbled I didn't do a turkey!
BlueV- Tonight- an omelet!
Goodcook- I tend to lose appetite when cooking a lot, too! Good Luck!

Happy Turkey Day to you and yours!!!
Peace

Odat- Have a good day, too!

HAPPY FANKS GIVING DEAR (((BUFF))) for tomorrow.......

Fanks giving grub sounds like what us Brits cook most Sundays but on more of a crimbo scale.......except we have crispy roast spuds and never mashed potatoes, those are reserved for boxing day :)

I shouldnt come here cos I always leave hungry LOL

Identicle except for the asian green bean thing. I'm baking pecan pies also. Happy Thanksgiving Buff!

It is often a dilemma but we've been mixing it up with some things we haven't made before or in a long while. It's actually be a great food week.

As far as caloric intake, I just up our exercise routine to accommodate it:)

buffalodick said...

Marmy- Wish you were here.. I'd feed you proper!
G-man- This Asian twist rocks! Pecans are so rich for me- I love them, but they don't love me! Happy family day wishes for you..
Chis- I just go dormant for three days after Thanksgiving!...

Just telling it like it is said...

I'm making stuffing with sausage...MMMM my favorite I can't wait!!!

buffalodick said...

Darngirl- Hope you are with loved ones that day!

happy Thanksgiving, Buff.

Shelly Rayedeane said...

Okay. I apologize for being so blunt.

Do you know of any good non fattening side dishes for Thanksgiving? I'm trying to cut most sugar and fat out of my diet.

buffalodick said...

Pam- I give away most of the food too!
Jeff- I controlled myself- 17.8lbs.
Have a great day!
Beth- I'm at the stage today, where I wish I was going somewhere!
Uber- Thanks! Happy T-day to you too!
Shelly- It's only one day- live it up!

Happy Thanksgiving BD and family! It was only 7 of us here, small crowd for a holiday, but I still cooked like I was cooking for 25 - lots of leftovers is a beautiful thing!

Just telling it like it is said...

I made stuffing with sausage and it was gone in an instant with a blink of an eye!! I guess that means it was good!;) cheers!

The Blonde Duck said...

I hope you had a lovely Thanksgiving! I'm sure your feast was drool-worthy! I always wish we had more people at our dinners too--at my parents' it's just the five of us, but at Ben's house it's much bigger and lots of fun.

buffalodick said...

Martha- I sent home leftovers with every guest!
Darngirl- I made a huge pan of it- not much left!
BlondeD- What I really liked was everything I made came out right! Double oven sure helps!
