When You Really Don't Want To Cook, But Do..
I have had a bug going on 4-5 days, and food isn't high on my burning desire list. Still, it's my job in this house, and my wife deserves a square meal, after working long hours. She had to work Saturday, and the larder was getting lower..
I had some chicken tenderloins, and decided to make a chopped chicken in sauce, over egg noodles. It has been getting nippy over here, and comfort food starts to come back into fashion! A simple dish, I seasoned the chicken with salt, pepper,Lawry's Poultry Seasoning, and baked it for 15 minutes at 350F until not quite done. I then cut it into chunks, and added it to the sauce I had prepared. The sauce is easy- a can of cream of chicken soup, equal volume of chicken broth, some Lawry's Poultry Chicken Seasoning, with a bit of corn starch for a thickening agent. Boiled egg noodles while sauce was simmering, and meal was done..
Hardly inspired, but I can always make an edible meal that disappears..
When my kids were growing up, we always called this noodles and goop- and they loved it!

Sometimes simple is good and exactly what you want.
Once you learn the building blocks of cooking, bad food is only what you get at a restaurant!
hey it looks like you got all your widgets up - or were they up a couple days ago and I didnt notice?
Dogb- Got them up last week, couple of more steps to do.. That is not the easiest web site to get around on!
um... about that bug that has now lasted 4 to 5 days??? Is there a doctor visit in your future?
looks very good...
HOT HOT steamy bath and an immediate nap... and then scotch
I always enjoy reading what you've got cooking. My crock pot is currently simmering away my first roast, and I'm going the egg noodle route too!
I lived off egg noodles as a kid. This looks so good!! Simplicity is key with cooking sometimes. Some of my very favorite dishes are 5 ingredients or less. Hope you're feeling better. There is so much crud going around right now it's scary.
I love comfort food - broths etc. In fact I intend making some next week. :)
I hate that you're still under the weather, BD. I like this dish for it's comfort food factor and simplicity!
Sounds like noodles and goop is just what the Doctor ordered. Bless your heart, hope you get better soon. Hang in there BD

Good Cook- No, I'm getting better slowly..weather change hits us, and things go out of whack until freezing temps..
Griller- I don't drink Scotch, I like it too much... Last Scotch and soda I had... woke up in Idaho, wondering who was gonna pay for all these hookers.. :)
Jules- I've got a slow beef roast going, that will served with brown rice.. another "feel good" meal..
Rachel- When the wife cooks, it always is a recipe out of the Four Ingredient Cook Book!
Ake- I have never been to your homeland, but understand you get a lot of rain, and cold weather right now..chills to the bone! Time for warming meals..
Chris- A lazy man is usually a smart man! Thinking is easier than doing..
Highlander- Noodles and goop..we got so used to calling that!
Hope your feeling better soon, seems like a lot of people are sick lately.
Otin- Thanks, I'm still getting around, but at half speed..
My kids call this kind of thing "one pot surprise" but I call it "Friday night repast"! (Friday nights I refuse to cook anything difficult.)
Margie- That's where I'm at right now.. tonight, slow cooked pot roast and brown rice, crescent rolls, and that's it!
What a lucky wife to have a husband who cooks for her.
This sounds like pure comfort food, your lucky wife. Hope you feel better
Shell-, well she screwed me up pretty good tonight, on time table.. Might post it, might not..
Denise- She's lucky right now not to be dead.. Timing is everything to a cook, and this went 40 minutes past prime..
Chicken Slop at our house. Same thing, same kind of name.
i love the names you give all your stuff! even your soups!
I put together a lentil soup that was out of this world! from alex jamieson's blog
Cold in Ohio too! I plan to make a crock pot of stew this weekend.
Swine flu is running rapid in my school district. Nasty stuff.
Good Idea...I hate it when it gets nipply..oh I just read that again I mean nippy;)
This is actually something I think I could make! Yum!
That does sound like yummy comfort food!!
Hope you're feeling better!
I appreciate a good meal that kids like, and this looks like one of them. Thanks for sharing!
Kate- Names families come up with...
Boots- Saw the soup- looked good!
Kit40- I don't know what I got, but it is getting a little better..
Darngirl- nippy causes that!
BlueV- It's easy and pretty fast to make, too..
Stacy- Thanks! Getting there..
Scarlet- My on son loves sauces and gravies, the other one- not as much!
It's getting nippy here, too! I love it, though, because fall foods are the best.
Pink- I'm just never ready when the snow flies! Bought tires for wife's car yesterday- Boy, have they gone up since the last set!
LOL--my mom made the same dish (but with added peas) and we called it "Chicken and Goop." It's my sister's favorite.
How nice of you to cook while sick!
It sounds creamy and comforting!
Sounds SUPERB and HEARTY ! I make stuff like this all the time...its so true what you say...kids love this kind of thing... my little girl calls them.... NOOGELS ! : )
Lini- The Michigan chick- right down to the nick name for it!

I've always appreciated great chefs. I can't cook toast. Lol.
Uncle BUff, anything with egg noodles is gonna be good in my book!
XOXOXO
I wouldn't want you preparing my food without a surgical mask!!!
Hope you feel better soon!!
Noodles & Goop... works for me! I made wild rice soup last night that probably has the same consistency... mmmm.... comfort food!
Hit 40 says I should take you to the Willow Manor Ball next year, so thought I'd stop over and make your acquaintance. (Hope your wife doesn't mind.) Anyway, pleased to meet you!
Spicey sausage, sweet potatoe and lentil curry in the slow cooker in this house today....... I purposely used spicy pork sausage so I cant have any LMFAO..... Im trying to be good..... but Im so gonna hate not having curry for me tea :)
I might as well be eating bloody cardboard this week.... LOL Im on a detox :)
x
ps......... I bought a brand spanking never been used pasta making machine in a charity shop in the week for just 2 quid ($4) it even had the orginal receipt it in dated 1992 LOL from a very posh shop here in Britain and the original cost back then was 48 quid ($96) - so gonna have a go at making me own pasta this week......

otin- It's a good format for that day!
Lulda- Getting there.. :)
Darngirl- It's the only thing I like about cold weather!
Beth- We have them once in a while for a change from pasta!
G-man- Wife seems fine, just was me.
Catlady- Welcome! She would let me go, but I wouldn't get to come home again!
Marmy- I can smell your meal from here! Good deal on pasta maker- I got a cheapo attachment that makes a few shapes..
Hope you're feeling better now! :)
Scarlet- Your face makes everything feel a bit better!
It sounds really good and easy, which is a necessity these days. I used to call hamburger hot dish "Monkey Brains" when my son asked what was for dinner. He ate every bite and to this day still call it that. Neighbor kids aren't so excited about eating it however.
My mom used to make something like that....I adored it.
So far I have avoided all the bugs at work. The kids are dropping like flies!! One school in my district had 40% of the kids call off sick!! I thought they had to cancel school if this many called off???
Jen- That is what make families, well, families!
Michelle- I revel in my peasant upbringing! People hear about black soul food.. Well, anyone who ever was one on that lower rung of income had a cuisine.. and it got you by..and it wasn't all that bad! It wasn't a race thing- it was economics!
Hit40- Slipped in while typing! Wish all of them a speedy recovery..You are a great teacher.. really..
noodles & goop. pour me a bowl, set me in front of a fire, put on some harry potter and call me good!
Tanya- That's now on my fantasy list of "things to do before I die"! :)
Hope your feeling better now BD! I'd eat your noodles and goop anytime. That qualifies as perfect comfort food as far as I'm concerned!
Oh, I hope you get better soon! I am knocking on wood now, because we have felt so good over the summer, and hubby says he almost starved when I was gone in September...I have been craving egg noodles lately, and like them with most anything on them!
