Mini-Meme- Blog Version Of An Opinion...

I have tried to tailor these Mini-Memes, so that they don't require a lot of time to answer.. It also gives any visitors to this blog to say their Opinion on the given subject- with no reprisals! Today's subject occured to me as it is St. Patricks Day!
Simply put:
1. What is your favorite Holiday? Why?
2. What is your least favorite Holiday? Why?
Me first!
1. I used to love Halloween the best, but more and more- Thanksgiving. I like to cook(Anyone picked up on that?) and I guess Thanksgiving is turning into the forgotten Holiday- they put out Christmas crap right after Halloween now!
2. Any Holiday promoted by Hallmark, Russell Stover, Florists, etc... Get my drift? Making millions off of people on Bosses Day, Secretaries Day, etc. makes my ass tired!
Let's see what you folks got on these questions!

1. Favorite: Christmas, because it emcompasses almost the entire month of December and things just feel lighter somehow. but I also love Thanksgiving and Easter too.

2. Least favorite: Halloween. Dressing up and traipsing around the neighborhood begging for candy? Ugh.

BIg fan of Thanksgiving because of the variety of pies available. Only on that day is it socially acceptible to eat an entire fifth meal for the day consisting of nothing but pie.

Least favorite is Valentine's Day. Wow, $55 roses because I'm guilted into it. Only in AMerica.

1) Favorite. That's a tuff one. If I HAD to pick one, I would say July 4th, just because it's all about no-strings-attached fun.

2) Halloween. I hate the fact that kids go around begging strangers for candy. I don't even know when I started feeling that way or why, but I always have.

Finn- That's Ok! The commmercialism of Christmas has kind of gotten to me..
Sornie- I think you know what I'm saying!
Bina- I love the 4th too, mainly because I'm a pyromaniac!

1. My Birthday! (Oh, that's not a holiday for everyone else?) Then Christmas, definitely.

2. Labor Day. End of summer = no fun, no fun. (Though I love the month of September.) It's a "light" dislike then.

G-Man said...

My sentiments exactly!!!

I also like T-Day because it is not bound by religious dogma.

buffalodick said...

CDB- Your birthday should be a national Holiday! Labor Day can be depressing...
G-man- A lot of "Holy days" aren't anymore!

Any holiday I can spend in the sun is my favourite - because I love the sun!

I don't like halloween, it has emigrated here from America but our kids go about it half hearted, they don't dress up they just knock on the door and expect a handful of treats!

buffalodick said...

Ake- I used to ask the kids; "Do you want a trick, or a treat?" I would then throw a ball of fire at them(Flash paper!) Storm door blocking any damage! Halloween has gotten huge here!

I love Halloween - candy and cute outfits.

I'm starting to dread Christmas - it's just a little too much these days. Too many cookies, too many presents, too much time with family...

favorite: any holiday that involves food

least favorite: any holiday that doesnt involve food

Jeanne Estridge said...

Favorite: Thanksgiving. While I don't cook, I love to eat!

Least Favorite: The fake ones you mentioned.

BTW -- I'm NOT a bitch. I'm an asshole.

buffalodick said...

Donna- Whatever you do, keep doin' it! Smart and sexy is a great gift!
K- Christams has become more about spending than a kid born in a manger...
DogB- I'm whitcha on that!
Jeanne- You aren't either one, but with a little personal coaching.. you have potential...

Just telling it like it is said...

I feel ya! I still love halloween I guess I still like dressing up in my off the wall costumes...but it is sooo much fun...

Christmas: it is sooo over commercialized. I am just thankful to see my family happy and healthy...No need for presents...
I live off love. Chezzy I know

Hey UncleBuf! :)

My favorite holiday is Fourth of July. It's Family, Friends, BBQ, Summer, Happiness, Fireworks, and you don't have to buy a present for anyone! All you have to concentrate on is being together and having fun. All the other holidays should be jealous. ;)

I don't know if I have a least favorite holiday because I like all the major ones, but Christmas is so dramatized and stressful and COLD where I live... It's not that I don't enjoy it, I just don't enjoy getting ready for it.

I don't even count the "hallmark" holidays as holidays. That's just silly. And I'm just uber crabby at Hallmark because they have started charging to send the majority of their eCards now when they used to all be free. I know it's all about making a buck, but it just irks me.

1. Christmas

2. Valentine's Day. (what a waste)

Kate said...

Fourth of July. It means a whole day at the beach with my girlfriends. Followed by fireworks by men acting like little boys.

buffalodick said...

Darngirl- I used to run Halloween parties! Christmas can be great, if you don't try to be everywhere at once!
Snowniece- As usual, we're on the same page...
Heff- Understood.. but it's those invented holidays that melt my butter..
Kate- That was me in my prime! I bought stuff from the top three illegal fireworks guys in the area!

Chef E said...

Oh does my birthday count :)

Most holidays do not bother me, since most are for kids, so go with the flow...

buffalodick said...

Chef- Birthdays count! I'm to an age where there is nothing left to celebrate- except being alive!

Marjie said...

Favorite: Thanksgiving. No one expects presents. They expect food. Hubby is beginning to dread it, because he's afraid I'll kill myself working too hard.

Least Favorite: All the holidays my father in law called "Jewish Holidays': Mother's Day, Father's Day, Valentine's, etc, etc, etc: everyone thinks they should get presents and cards and crap. I'm not that into presents and cards and crap.

Jen said...

I absolutely love Christmas. The decorations, the tree, the presents, just love it all.

The least favorite? Hmmm, I guess any that don't involve days off work.

buffalodick said...

Marjie- Holidays = business for retailers...Kwanza is another contrived celebration..
Jen- I know your family is kind of widespread- probably look forward to gather at least once a year!

tavolini said...

Buffalo, I agree with both of your answers whole heartedly!!

Thanksgiving is the BEST holiday. Don't have to worry about presents, you get 2 days off work, cooking all day and drinking wine is encouraged....and sometimes the Lions win!

Any holiday that doesn't give a day off from work is pretty lousy :P

buffalodick said...

T.L.- As we get older, the food and commradery of the day takes the place of presents...

starbender said...

I don't like holidays much anymore.

Christmas is way to EXPENSIVE!
Easter- What does the rabbit really have to do with this holiday?

Halloween- What happened to all the trick-or-treat'rs??? I buy a ton of candy each year, and recently, I HAVE 2 EAT IT ALL!

Thanksgiving, I love to cook & eat this meal, it's my fav., BUT, we slaughtered thousands of innocent Indians, why do we celebrate this? Can't we change it up a bit?

God, you don't even know me, and I'm rambling....

Stop by and ramble 2 me....

Bunny that clucks like a chicken, and lays chocolate eggs... Someone at Cadbury's was on acid.....

Your website title intrigued me.

1. I love christmas without all the commercialism. We try to make it about family and kids

2. I hate valentine's day- why should we tell the one's we love that we love them only one one day?

buffalodick said...

Sarah- Welcome to the blog! Food and humor are usually the theme here!

Lulda Casadaga said...

1.Well, Halloween because I can play dress up and be someone else and make a fool of myself, get drunk and oh wait, I can do that anyday! :D
1.5 I also love New Years Eve...new beginnings, new chances, new champagne!

2.) Although, I like July 4th fireworks, I do not like the HEAT!

Lulda- Love women to dress up! Drunk women ain't bad either!

I could've written this post. I feel EXACTLY the way you do about Thanksgiving (it's almost forgotten these days). You see more Halloween and Christmas cards and decorations than Thanksgiving ones.

As for my LEAST favorite holiday...the ones we start adding to our calendars to be "politically correct." Where's our integrity??
