I Got A Question.. Anyone Remember Harry Chapin

I do. I remember telling my wife, "We really gotta see this guy, next time he comes to Michigan" Guess what? He didn't. Guess what? He was dead... How many times do we think the celebrity will live forever, and be at our beck and call? Live your life like there is a cut off moment... you really don't ever know when it is.. Look at your loved ones... Ask yourself "What should I do, I really must do, before I die?" Do not live your life regretting- Go for it! It really is so precious- your life is finite.. I'm telling jokes the next post- I am in "dark " mode, and people don't much like that!
P.S.- From a great song! "Ohhh, I've got something inside me"...

Your so right, I have a huge banner in my garden room that a Buddhist friend made for me it says
LIFE IS NOT A RACE
BUT A JOURNEY TO BE SAVOURED
EACH STEP OF THE WAY
YESTERDAY IS HISTORY
TOMORROW IS A MYSTERY
AND TODAY IS A GIFT.
not a single day passers that I don't think of these words, and the day seems worth so much more. You could never be dark Buff, only ever a very wise man.

odat- I know you, recently- more than most, have had to look this in the eye without blinking. I hope it's getting better for you, and I think it has- as your writings seem to indicate. Be well, and as our friend DogB says "Work like you don't need the money, love like you've never been hurt, and dance like nobody is watching"..
Queenie- The Brits and their damn gardens... Kiddin' ya, dear! That is one perfectly said statement and I think it's well worth putting where all can read it...

Loved "Cats in the Cradle"...I have a thing for Cat Stevens too.

I TRY to live by the rule, "Don't regret what you have done, regret what you haven't done."

Somedays I apply it, somedays I don't...but I try.

I <3 Harry Chapin.

I also <3 Jane's Addiction and I've missed out on seeing them a buttload of times which sucks since they're not even a band anymore. HOWEVER, they are all AMAZINGLY considering their lifestyle ... still alive.

Maybe they will do ANOTHER reunion tour and I can miss them again.

Harry Chapin was a lyrical genius though. I love how he tells a story in every song. What is the title of that song where he sings about the child in school who got in trouble for coloring stuff the wrong colors? Does anyone remember? I want to go listen to it. I'll probably just youtube Harry Chapin till I find it ... so you could save me a lot of trouble if you just tell me!

Mona- I know you have these feelings too, but you are so classy when you have them, well, I envy you that!
claudia- I hope you take all responsibility for this! Truth be told, it ain't you babe.. I can be one dark cloud- all on my own...
michelle- I lived that song, and unfortunately-so did my much loved sons.. I know your Dad has been not perfect, but think tonight, and maybe forgive him- not that he deserves it, but because you might need to- for yourself. Just me to you- and you is pretty special..
tentboy- I have pissed into more wind than you will ever encounter! Turn 180 degrees and piss on someone else for awhile- it ain't too bad...I'm kinda slow, but I ain't stupid... I'm Buffalo Dick, and a thoroughly amazin' man!
leezee- Not sad- just life. And he still lives in our thoughts, through his "stories"!

morgy- That's wat I'm sayin'! Don't NOT GO- Our short lives of regret will never replace our memories of what we did. Goddam! That was soooo profound, even I was impressed! I am truly an amazing man- not even worth arguing with!

I remember Harry Chapin very well. If you grew up in NYC, as I did, he was something of a staple in the area. I saw him back in the late 70's at SUNY New Paltz.

His death on the Long Island Expressway was a total shock, and he was not hauling 30,000 pounds of bananas.

"All my life's a circle, sunrise and sundown."

Buff...
A running joke on my blog is the fact that people mistake me 'ALL the fricken Time" for Michael Moore.
Mike started his political activist career here in Lovely Flint. He was the editor of a small alternative news rag called the Flint Voice. Harry Chapin was a champion for causes like this, and he appeared in Flint more than once to help MM and his paper survive. Yes, he has been dead a while...
Norman Greenbaum on the other hand is still very much alive!!!!

DogB- It's been that long... His songs live on , at least we have that..
deb- Every year, I'm in a chili cook-off where the proceeds go to Gilda' House...
rog- Gotta find that music on a CD today!
morgy- Soon on the jokes...
Mr. nt- Welcome to the blog! I'm glad you got to see him live!-
G-man- Norm only had one hit, but everybody knows it!

Hey my friend, I like you weather you are dark or happy... God knows I am all over the place. Life is short. Do what is right and what makes you happy

buffalodick said...

DogB- We really gotta open that restaurant. I could teach you our version of the English language. Lord knows what you sound like coming from SW America and hangin' out in NYC for these past years!
Tanya- You are my perfect girl- don't ever go serious on me! P.S. I hear what you say, and I know what you're saying...really.
InsaneM- I probably listen to what you say- more than I let on.. You've had some adventures, now settle down with Chris.. You two are a pair to draw to...(He said, gruffly- but with much affection..).

Life's too short to waste a single moment.

When you find what makes you happy, the hum that harmonizes with your hearts beating, you just have to keep playing.

*hugs*

Harry Chapin and Jim Croce... taken far too soon.

what do you mean what do I sound like?

As Edith Piaf sang, "Je ne regrette rien." I really have no regrets--I have made the most of my life and have overcome many obstacles, so I feel strangely at peace with myself.

It would be nice to live in another country, and to see some additional countries on my wish list...but not necessary. Each eday is a precious gift.

(And yes, I am old enough to remember Harry Chapin.)

buffalodick said...

anndi- Yes, those two burned short and bright..
DogB- Just rattlin' the cage! I've heard your voice in your videos, and it's way better than mine!
UrbanV- I love to hear French women sing(in French!) I mostly don't know what they're singing about- but it's quite beautiful..

Hey Uncle Buf :)

You know, I've been in a dark mood too. I think it's just the human in us that causes that. (Don't know much what to do about that. ;))
I know exactly where you're coming from in this post. I've been having a lot of deep discussions and thoughts lately.
Today is my dad's giant b-day bash and I am hoping to have a much more fun post next post, too. Plus, I have some cool ironic coincidences to share. :)
