4th of July! BB-Q Ribs, Whole Chickens, and Boomers!

After an unusually stressful 4 day week at work, finally the 4th! My company schedules our 6 month work performance reviews on July 3rd. Really. Besides the preparation, the "2-of-them vs. 1-of-you" format of the interview, and the usual pile of "must do going forwards" to work on after the meeting, coming home last night was like exhaling bad air! Remember- Monday was all day w/the regional sales mgr., Wednesday was the storm (and 24hr.no power day!), then the Thursday I just described. Yesterday got better about 2PM when I won $72 bucks on the Lotto, 230PM power came back on, 6PM got to pick out and buy my nukes to shoot off tonight!
Today has been making a salad, prepping the BB-Q stuff ( making dry rub, slather, mop, and finishing sauce). I decided to cook two whole young chickens along w/the 3 racks of pork ribs in my new smoker grill. Almost time to wrap them all up in aluminum foil, cook for another 2 hrs.- to let them get tender.
Wishing you all a great, safe, GOD-BLESS-AMERICA 4th of July!!!!

bddy: my brother always had a firework stand when we were young - he always made a decent buck around this time....those smoker goods look like the best 'boomers' to me.

I am making teriyaki steak kebobs and the well formentioned pop rock cupcakes! You should have seen Woobie's face when I gave him a sample of the pop rocks--I was sorry I missed it.

Here's to the fourth and starting off a better week ahead! Lotto winnings are always a wonderful start!! :)

We could use some Boomers around here. This is the first year in a long time that nobody purchased any .

Let us know how the food came out.

Ake- The windfall of $72 just helped defray the costs of my fireworks!
marmy- No matter how many nitwit politicians(yours and ours!) try to get in the way, I think our nations are still the best of friends...
DogB- The ribs were good, but the chicken was incredible! Now I gotta clean that beast of a smoker for next time!
leezee52- We took chicken and ribs to a lake party, where they were consumed 100%! Somebody else's pulled pork and sliced beef was not...
snowniece- You're a good mommy- I'm glad cupcakes worked out for you!
claudia- Beer can chicken has been around awhile- I actually was going to use that method, but the chickens were too darn big! Hope your 4th was as great as mine was!
Har- Fireworks sales were down all over(economy, no doubt!) but the lake we were on had alot of pyros like me, in addition to a lake association sponsored display...
InsaneM- Sushi on the 4TH??!! I hope you at least put it in a hot dog bun with ketchup... You were probably full of BB-Q by the time you left Georgia... Californians! take two avocados with some bottled water- you'll be back to normal in no time!

Have a great July 4th weekend my dear!

You still talk to us little people after winning big?
WOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!

Like you, I had the smoker going in full force yesterday. Two pork butts to feed the masses.

Can you do cold smoking on your new toy? As in for cheese, nuts and the like?

anndi- Hey! Don't laugh at my $72 bucks- even if they are American dollars... My lotto paying has kept Michigan schools from going under! At least that's what our Governor says...
jeff- No cold smoking- would need to get heat & smoke source further away from the chamber. This one did work slick for BB-Q range(200-250F)smoking. Cold smoking unit- someday I will build one- mark my words! I really bought this Brinkman to do pork butt and beef brisket in contests- looks like it will work just fine!

Happy Independence day Buf!

We are facing flood in my town & we can barely step out of the house, the streets are drowned under water.
We too got power back after seventeen hours today. There was such a major breakdown at the grid!

Hope you enjoyed celebrating your independence day!

Beth- Food and fireworks are always great in my life!
deb- Welcome to the blog! I stopped by your blog and you look like you already know how to cook!
Mona- Our flooding and power outage was about 24 hrs. long! Some people in area just got power back.... The 4th was great- as usual!

Good grief! How many are you planning to feed? Any doggy bags?
Cheers and happy 4th!

whoa $72 bucks! that would wipe the slate clean.

looks like you know how to throw a 4th of july party! i hope those performance reviewers know THAT!

buffalodick said...

maddy- I always make extra in a big cooker! Guess what? It all got gone in a hurry!
DogB- We can handle lost power, but it is important to know approx. when it's going to come back on!
Rog- Got 'em from a local renegade-pricey, but good!
odat- Food was great- people were hiding ribs "for later"...

I LOVE me some smoked chicken and BBQ ribs, and ALL that stuff you cooked. Sorry about the bad week though. But at least you had a three day weekend and some EXCELLENT food!!!!

How were the fire works???

buffalodick said...

tanya- For 20 yrs. I've been the BB-Q and explosives expert invited to a lake home for their party! Not to brag, but if I didn't do this, the party would probably be cancelled!
bina- I'll cook, you do the clean-up! Just kidding! Fireworks were great! I've brought better, but the people next to us brought some good stuff, and the lake association did pretty well too!
