Story-Telling, Jokes, And How We Communicate...(My Twice A Year Rant)...

A New Year provokes feelings- Hope, Anticipation, Fear, Apprehension, Etc (fill in the blank!). Since I started blogging, I have been able to polish my skills as a writer- hopefully keeping up with the people that also blog!
People are losing the ability to tell a good story, a good joke- in short, reading has become an inconvenience to a majority of the people on Planet Earth! Movies supplant reading a book. Music has become a packaged commodity, instead of an Art. The computer has become the Artist- the graphics that talent used to supply is now a common technical skill. What are we losing as humans, when we stop using what makes us humans? Most movies, books, and other forms of entertainment are about Emotions. Love, Hate, Redemption, Greed, Compassion, again etc.... Can you feel the difference between a "success formula" and a real written story? Check the movie listings in your area- How many are remakes of old movies (or books)? How many are computer generated cartoons with someone famous doing the voice? The average is about 5 out of 10.. That's B.S. people- with all the creative talent I've come in contact with blogging, that's B.S. ... I am impressed by the one thing in common with the bloggers on this post- You are intelligent! You have wit, a command of the language, knowledge on subjects I'm unfamilar with, and personality! Do not presume to tell me we are the only people not getting paid to be interesting and smart! Demand more of your entertainment! Hanna Montana? Britney Spears? All the athletes arrested or charged with crimes that would send you to the slammer for 20yrs?
Do not support these dipsh*ts! Walk out of bad movies! Laugh at morons trying to be funny on TV without a writng staff! Seek out your local entertainment stars- they might have more to offer than the canned crap the networks sell you. Pant-pant-pant- I'm winding down now, but please- The message today is don't value these media-hyped "Stars" above real talent. Look closer, and you will find it in your own back yard...
After all that, I'd better tell a joke or two , to show what I'm bitching about!
What does a "lady of the evening" say after sex?
"Jeez buddy, what took so long?"
What does a nympho say after sex?
"Are you done already?"
What does a wife say during sex?
"Beige... I think I'll paint the ceiling beige..."
Two rich trophy wives are talking at the Country Club....
"My dear! Have you met the new cosmetic surgeon that has moved into the neighborhood?" "Yes, why?" The one says " I was thinking of letting him do breast augmentation on me"... The other rich wife, not to be outdone says " Well I was thinking of having my a*shole bleached"... The first rich chick says " How do you think your husband will look as a Blonde?"
Thanks to all you put up with my rant!

I complain about the same things ALL the time!

Movies are remade and ran into the ground because no one can come up with anything NEW!

Music is being stamped out with cookies cutters....

In short, I agree with you!

Rant away...It's a good one. That's why I hardly go to the movies...and why I actually still READ books. People today want things instantaneously and if that means doing away with all artistic talent, humor, great literature, it's really a sad state of affairs.
Thanks for pointing it out.
Peace

ps. the jokes were cute!

HearHear...right on

At The Doctor's Office
A young, very attractive redhead goes into the doctor's office and says that her body hurts wherever she touches it.
"Impossible," says the doctor. "Show me."
She takes her finger and pushes her elbow and screams in agony.
She pushes her knee and screams, pushes her ankle and screams. Everywhere she touches makes her scream.
"You're not really a redhead, are you?" says the doctor.
"No," she admits. "I'm actually a blonde."
"I thought so," said the doctor.
"But how did you know?" asks the woman.
"Your finger is broken," says the doctor.

Great rant...and I wholeheartedly agree. But I also think that we as a society are robbing ourselves by not BEING creative. I must have my outlets for creativity or I get all funky.

Love the jokes!

Buff...a fabulous rant! (wish I had written it!)

I've had the same thoughts but you've said it much better than I could have.

Have a great "rest of the day"!!

LMAO at Doggybloggy, that's got to be the blonde joke of the decade.

Your rant is spot on. If the networks, publishers and movie producers need talent for their new productions I say bag most of the current writers and look to the blogging community.

An origonal screenplay really stands out anymore, because most of what's out there is a remake of a remake. Enough already.

Yes, yes, yes and yes again. I completely agree.

I tend to watch more indpendent films now when I can find them. They're so much better!

Thanks for the laughs too. Never have too many of those...

lynda- Haven't watched major network crap besides news and sports in years! And what I'd do for a well written movie....
DogB- Good joke! I've already told it once!
R.L.L.- With the beautiful jewelry you create, I knew you would agree..
in_spired- The "dumbing down" in America is being promoted by the highest technology- video games, movies, songs that defend and promote stupidity, poverty, and crime... you got me going again!

buffalodick said...

jeff- Make a screenplay out of your short story I've been following!
Finn- I'm watching the Sundance stuff, and can't stop! Let's start a talk show.. We'll wear only underwear and only review Indie movies..We'll call it "Indies In Undies"... No? My wife didn't buy in, either....We could tell jokes too.... I'm dying out here, gimmie the hook....

Dinner sounds deeeelish - you've just ruined my diet! :(

marmy- Your writing style conveys your thoughts and sentiments beautifully! Don't ever change, and don't ever stop! You project your feelings and emotions in every post. If I had to describe you by what I've read, it would go like this: A life-loving woman, doing great by kids, with a heart as big as a body can hold! A Happy New Year to you, too!

The jokes are a scream! Biege. Hehehehe....

I have to disagree with you one one thing...
"Music has become a packaged commodity, instead of an Art. The computer has become the Artist- the graphics that talent used to supply is now a common technical skill. "

I personally think the computer has exposed the fakes and the wannabes as such. True artists can work magic--in any medium--and most people can discern the difference.

Happy, Healthy New Year to you and your family!

There is much in what you say, but don't forget about the contribution of your primate cousins to the field of entertainment.

UrbanV- Glad you liked the jokes! To clarify my statement on artists- There are more talented people than there are jobs that require talent these days. Technology advancements allow people with less talent to do the job required- at lower wages. I started my career as a design draftsman- drawing complicated stuff with a No. 6 mechanical pencil. Today, designers in manufacturing wouldn't know how to duplicate what we had to, without a computer. I agree with you that a person with talent, using technolgy can create great things, I just mourn the loss of its' value.
GorillaB- Welcome to the blog! I agree- other primates have contributed.. "Bed Time For Bonzo" the wrong monkey in that movie when into politics...
marmy- I'm on my way to Peru, big girl...
Snowniece- Even the last pirate movie I saw- Pirates of the Carribean No. 3 really sucked...

interesting post...just reading a book called "Save the Cat! goes to the Movies: The screenwriter's guide to every story ever told." There are only so many plots and stories out there and they get re-told. Pretty much everything Shakespeare wrote (if you believe he was just one writer) forms the basis of most story plots and themes.

I like your outspoken nature. Perhaps I will visit again sometime.
