End Of The Year Coming, Time For Annual Salad!

It was a long, cold day to work today! A customer lunch was a pleasant interlude, at good Italian restaurant. I had Veal Parmesean- a huge portion that completly disappeared during the meal. A meeting and tour of our plant for one of my largest customers was the last thing on todays' work agenda. All went well, but it was a higher than average stress day- which I'm feeling about now! My wife has to go to some girly dinner tonight, and I'm still full from lunch, so I'll post about a light meal we enjoyed earlier this week. As the headline implies, I don't dive into a salad with the gusto I demonstrate when attacking lasagna. I've found the secret of a good salad- make it look and taste like something that isn't good for you! The picture is what I think a salad should look like- My Chef Salad! Imagine that bad boy slathered in Chunky bleu cheese dressing (that I add real Maytag Blue cheese, crumbled until it's so thick you can walk across it!)covered with all those ingredients until you can't find the da*n lettuce..... Got my annual salad out of the way until next year! Dang! That's only 27 days more....

I think I'd prefer real crumbled lumps of blue cheese myself, but hold off on the teeth breaking caramelized pecans! That's a wicked thing to do to a poor defenseless nut!

Presentation is key, and that one certainly get my vote.
Cheers

This is my calling card or link"Whittereronautism"until blogger comments get themselves sorted out.

DogB- It's close enough to the Cobb that you could call it that!
maddy- No nuts in MY salad...I got a salad once served with toppings on the side- like the photo, and it made sense to me!

I'm sorry, I LOVE salad. I eat at least 5 in a week--at least. It's such an easy way to get my veggies in. ;) Yours looks both beautiful AND delicious, and you almost made it a whole year without one!

I love a salad but rarely eat them because of medications. Believe it or not lettuce (any green leafy thing) interfers with blood thinners, something about vitamin K. That picture looks SO good!

yum! I bet it has as many calories as a steak though! lol

I have to bring a dish to a mexican themed party tonight (as you would say, a 'girly party' lol) any suggestions? There will be 6 of us. I was thinking of grilling salmon cut into circles with a biscuit cutter then topping it with a spinach and feta mix... I would have to sprinkle some red pepper bits on top so that it at least LOOKED like it was mexican though! lol

Saw your comments over at Odat's so I thought I'd come by and have a look. I like blue cheese 'so thick you can walk across it' too. English Stilton is my favorite.

Nice post on the 5-10 courses meme. I played alog onthat one as well.

odat- Miracle whip sucks- all air, water, and sugar...
casdok- Dressing actually gets to go on the lettuce instead of the good stuff!
Paul- I made it carnivore- friendly!
Ake- Everyday? You're not eating lunch- you're grazing....
Dutchie- The Edam is already gone! The double salted licorice is half gone, and the babbleaar bag has been opened...
Pink- Now you know why I liked the look of that Morton salad!
nance- Drinking and grazing sounds pleasant, doesn't it?
Snow- 5 salads a week? I could do it- Tuna salad, chicken salad, taco salad, fruit salad, and a meat salad to be named later...
casdok- Thanks again for the award!
mel- The only creature that can eat straight lettuce is a rabbit- I think!
ammaro- Welcome to the blog!
kate- A Mexican- themed Hanukkah party? Make something Kosher and
spicy as heck.... That salmon (smoked?) and topped like you described sounds great to me!
R.L.L.- Not a bad presentation for a straight guy, was it?
jeff- Welcome to the blog! Any of the veined cheeses are OK in my book!
Ake- I looked at it, and flunked myself already, thank you!

I adore salad! I think the key to a good, hearty salad is to combine lots of different textures--chick peas, sunflower seeds, raisins, many different kinds of veggies, and last but not least--avocado slices. I often add toasted nuts at the every end--gives a salad a real sophistication.

And the dressing needs to be fresh and tasty--not that bottle sock water--or what's the point?

Akelamalu said...

Not just salad, I have cooked meat with it, or tuna, or cheese - always some protein.
