The 2 Day Getaway-Needed It!

Sometimes you just need a change of routine, a change of scenery. We decided to pack lightly and head up north. We hit a couple of Indian Casinos- the one in Petosky kicked our ass, so we headed down to Traverse City to visit another one. Glad we went, as something took place that I really never thought I'd witness- My wife actually hit a jackpot! With $1250 of their money we headed for a hunting lodge we and 10 other couples own joinly to stay overnight. It was quiet but last month the water heater decided to crap, leaving a mess and no hot water. This is a pretty nice place, but doesn't get used as much as it should, so things like this happen. Next day, we went east to another casino, held our own and left to go further east to Linwood. What is in Linwood? A cheese factory I've always wanted to see. I am an addict, probably with 10 kinds of cheese in the house at all times. Pinconning is a favorite, and was invented here in Mich. On a whim I asked how much a whole wheel would weigh, and how much it would cost. I bought a 20lb wheel of cheese! Came home cut it up, vacuumed packed it, and plan to constipate all my friends and relatives with gifts of cheese. People who know me have come to expect this kind of insane behavior, leaving them puzzled but not displeased!

Congarts on the jack pot. That must have been exciting. Not sure if it was more exciting than the cheese though. haha

Woohoo! The jackpot and the cheese pot. What can you do with all that cheese? Cheese pizzas, cheese fondue, quesadillas, grilled cheese sandwiches....

I might need to get up there and find that cheese factory.

Do you and the 10 couples ever rent out that cabin? Just curious.

Oh, and I love Holland MI. You mentioned it in my comment. My husband and I use to go up there a lot until we got our dog. Every year from the time we moved here until 2002, we went to the tulip festival.

Town is really quiet when there is no festival though. lol.

20lbs is a lot of cheese...you won't need toilet paper for a long time ;)

Liz- Jackpot GOOOD! Cheese? So far, 7 people have received, with ay least 6 more to go!
Lynda- Hunt lodge rental-no, but we should. Sits empty 200 days a year. And Holland is better than it used to be for activity. PS- I wouldn't live there though!
Keeks- After cutting it up with a knife the size of a machete, then going thru 18ft of vac pac, I'm not so sure this will happen again!

Sounds like a totally awesome getaway.
If you could score all that $$$ AND a whole WHEEL of cheeze in only two days...imagine how rich and constipated you would be if you had a whole WEEK of getting away...lol!!

Congrat's on your winnings :)

I have never heard of Pinconning cheese, and I live in Michigan? I will have to look it up--

I see Lynda is familiar with Holland. I love it up there---especially the Holland Tunnel beach. Very nice area. It's been years since we have gone though. It's probably changed a lot.

Have a good one Buffalodickdy!

Huggerzzz....
