I Finally Did It! I Got Too Big A Bird...

We had a roast turkey for Easter. Every time I get a turkey, I seem to go a little larger- bigger is better, right? Wrong! At 22lbs, it caused problems... I had to use a different pot to brine it in, it barely fit in a double lasagna pan, took up the whole oven, and even after I made every guest take some home, I have leftover turkey up the wazoo.. Remember that commercial where the woman is wrestling her turkey all over the kitchen, finally turkey slips goes flying out the window, knocking a guy flat? That was sort of what I looked like Sunday... It was tasty, and pretty moist, but a smaller bird would have been better..
The dressing, mashed potatoes, gravy, rolls, and bean casserole were good. The spice cake never got cut- everybody too full! That little gizmo next to the cake is sometimes called a Brulee torch- a small torch, with an adjustable flame which can be used to smooth out frostings, glazes, and of course finish the top of brulees..
By the time I get a meal like that done, I'm usually not even hungry!
Hope you all had good ones!

That turkey looks so good!!! I would have taken lots of that home. I love turkey, stuffing and cransberry sauce. I could eat it all day long!

There is no such thing as a turkey which is too big. You need to do some holiday meal training to prepare your stomach for feasts. I spent three days gearing up for the big day and still had energy to give the nephews horsey rides.

I'm a bit intimidated by turkey. I definitely not ready for one that size etc.

The meal sounds good.

22 pounds is big. So, you are saying that bigger is not better? I think many of us would disagree - bigger is better. With a screen name like buffalodick, how could you just wave that one in front of us?

Just telling it like it is said...

Well they always say go big or go home...Happy Easter to you and your family...

Hit 40- Turkeys and other wild beasts can not be compared like that! Thanks for thinking dirty!!!!!!

I still want to eat your Turkey anyway. The one you prepared LOL.

I don't like the fact I wasn't there to taste all the good stuff you mentioned in your posts LOL. The drama of living in the Eastern side of the world!

Back when Old Dog's family used to gather for holidays, before his mom's stroke, I made a 22-lb turkey. On top of all the issues you mention, it was freaking HEAVY to wrestle out of the oven at 165 degrees and surrounded by boiling grease.

Visions now of your monster turkey stuck on your head like in the MrBean sketch lol

Good thing I have 2 ovens. I do 2 turkeys, about 20 pounds each, for Thanksgiving every year. Leftovers never last until Sunday. My world is never short of people to eat food!

Thanks for stopping by my blog yesterday (even if we did just confuse you ...). It is nice to "see" a fellow Michigander!

Well, at least you can have more leftovers! :)
My hubby cooked us a delicious pot roast...along with green beans and potatos. I made a Yorkshire pudding but it didn't come out to great...how do you get it to be puffy?

buffalodick said...

Jeanne- You know what I'm talking about... Thrown in the on lookers doing nothing in a corridor style kitchen....
Marmy- I've seen that comedy bit- it would apply!
Marjie- I have a double oven, so the stuffing and casserole all got done on time!
Lulda- I have never made that pudding in my life- I'd like to know too!
