Mini-Meme! Why Is It We All Don't Like The Same Stuff?

Sunday, I made those twice baked potatoes.. My wife and son love potatoes and frankly, I don't! In the afternoon, I made banana bread. I love banana bread, as does my wife- but I like it with chocolate chips and dried cranberries(or dried cherries!) in it, and she doesn't! She likes it with walnuts in it, and I hate nuts in bread! As shown, we end up eating good, plain banana bread!
After the football game, I made tuna salad, for sandwiches or salad... I would have used a lot more mustard in it, but I know my wife doesn't care for it mustardy... see where I'm going with this?
Today will be a simple one question/answer;
1. What is one dish you love one way, and hate prepared another way?
Me first- to illustrate!
I love almost any kind of meat in a sauce made from the base juices.
I hate meat in almost any kind of sauce made from fruit.
We are not passing judgement here, I hope I strike a cord with everyone who cooks or eats with someone they disagree with- but still gets along with!

Buffalo: You know what is beautiful about the plain banana nut bread? You love your wife and family enough to compromise that is what love is all about!!;)

Darngirl- No matter how hard I try, I will never be "Me first"..I love the line from Ben-Hur- "We exist to serve"...
Mona- I like it the first way, but your version sounds incredibly good! Hope you are well, E-mail soon..(buffalodickydy@yahoo.com)..

I can tolerate a good bolognese, I like a fast marinara but I dont like tomatoes when they are cooked, the peels, the chunks, none of it....yet I make it for who ever wants it and I make it good.

DogB- You and I share common ground on this- you know it's worth, love the people who do, but don't enjoy what they enjoy!

How sweet you are to make the potatoes for your wife and son even though you don't like them.

On Pancake Day I slave over a hot stove making a mound of pancakes for MWM - I can't stand them myself. :(

Heff said...

Jeez, "BuffaloRichard", do you just cook ALL THE TIME ?!?

buffalodick said...

Ake- "slave" making pancakes? They are the simplest food this side of making a popsickle! But you make them, and don't like them- so you're OK!
Heff- It's my hobby! I have others, but this one is the most acceptable by normal folks..and yesterday I did do more than normal!

Anything crunchy in my ice cream? Like a blizzard? ACK! Smooth is just fine thankyouverymuch. That goes for peanut butter, too. Nothing hard in my squishy foods. It's a texture thing.

buffalodick said...

Kate- you nailed it! It is a texture thing!..

Changing the subject to mice. The problem with live and let live is the little varmints a) reproduce like crazy and b)chew through anything that's not metal or class and c) track a lot of dirt and disease -- not good in a clinic. I'm afraid Mickey must die....

Brownies, cookies - any kind of baked item that has nuts makes me CRAZY! Give me the plain-Jane version ... thank you very much!

buffalodick said...

Jeanne- If everything is in place, none of that happens.. I've never had a mouse or a rat in my home- garage, maybe..
Dana- You and I agree on this!

I would like anything you and Dog cook so I would be an easy pleaser! (more mustard yeah!)

Hubby does not like chocolate mint mixed anything, like ice cream...I do...but he will eat mints, then have a chocolate near the same time...I do not get that?

He does not like hamburger, even the 95% lean, but if I tell him I had them ground up some fresh loin, he will eat it...*snicker*, cause you know Buff we cooks gotta have our beef...BBQ'd or grilled!

G-Man said...

Tuna...Onions...Miracle Whip!

But...Any way is OK!!!

I love a good strong cheese, and he loves Kraft American slices. That he won't let me put parmesan on his pasta, when I KNOW it will taste better that will just kills me!

buffalodick said...

ChefE- All in family liked beef- me-rare, one son med. rare, other son- medium, wife- med. to med rare... I cut my own loin into steaks so they are all different thicknesses, but get done about the same time!
G-man- The cook always settles for what the others want...
Pink- I'll eat a handful of nuts along with the bread- but not in it!
Gnightgirl- I love the strong cheeses also.. we call American process cheese food "Nerd Cheese"!

That's funny! Growing up, it was cookie wars--Dad liked them with nuts and raisins, Mom liked them with nuts, no raisins, and my sister and I liked them with no nuts and no raisins. (sounds like the beginning of a math problem!)

buffalodick said...

Marmy- There has to be a shot(Swine flu?) that could cure you of this no pork allowed in diet!
Tavolini- Exactly what I'm talking about!

Just telling it like it is said...

I like slaw made with vinegar in stead of mayo!!

buffalodick said...

Darngirl- I use both, and they love it! appple cider and white vinegar, with mayo, white sugar, celery seed, black and white pepper- and dry mustard!

I hate mayo. I hate mustard. I had boiled egg yolks. But mix them in the perfect balance and I love devilled eggs!

Don't even think of getting pickles near them, either.

Brown Eyed Girl said...

I like all kinds of salsa. Fruit, veggie, etc. Hubby likes plain tomato salsa.

buffalodick said...

Slightly off topic, but ...

My grandmother made the most delicious bread stuffing. It was kind of like potato pancakes in a nine by thirteen pan because there were real potatoes in it that were grated and squeezed and the whole things was so damn good I can't stand thinking about it right now.

Well, then some marketing genius invented Bacos and my grandmother's cooking just totally went to hell from that moment on because she was convinced that time spent cooking bacon could be spent better doing something else.

So, the answer: I love stuff with bacon. Add Bacos and no so much love.

buffalodick said...

Heff- Probably pork steaks, and a cake today...
Marmy- Me too, but the show must go on..
Anndi- Hope you're feeling better...
ChefE- I'll post something later tonight...
Candid Carrie- I agree... whoever thought burned bits of soy tasted like bacon...
