New Years Eve... 2008 Until Midnight!

We have a loose tradition of fixing a rather special meal for my son(sons) and either a friend or their girlfriend... My son , who lives about 4 miles from my house was here for Christmas Eve, Christmas Day, The 29th and 30th(power outage at his place!) and was back for more food New Years Eve! He had given me a nifty deep fryer for Christmas, and we decided to have a deep fried meal NYE... We had Mushrooms, chicken wings, shrimp, mozzarella sticks, pickles- all deep fried! White chocolate cheesecake was the dessert... First try at using a new device is usually a mixed bag of success and disaster- and this was no exception! Shrimp and mushrooms were best, chicken and pickles- need work. Cheese sticks were just flat out pooched! Sauces were good, but learned a few tricks about deep frying! Freeze cheese sticks, then batter and fry! Don't overload the fryer basket! Make sure your health care is current!
We then drove 30 miles to play cards with friends... came home with $100 I didn't bring with me! This morning my stomach felt like I tried to eat dinner at Jiffy Lube.. Happy New Year, and try to eat healthier- I'm gonna!

So are you pretty happy with that brand of fryer? Also, how long can you leave the oil in it?

Anything tastes good fried! Those, I'm sure there are little frying "secrets" to make everything fried taste it's best.
My MIL uses her fryer once a year. Usually she pulls it out for my SIL's birthday and she makes several varieties of kraut-balls with several varieties of dipping sauces.Yum!

Take a tums, and eat fruit and veggies today!

Doc- I got a Hamilton Beach- Presto makes a two basket, with an oil filter and drain- that's the one you want!
Raisin- Tried too much, too soon... but I always learn, and never goof on the same stuff twice... I find new stuff to goof up!

Buff- I am going to email you a trick to the wings/chicken...I did that in a restaurant in St Louis, it was all anyone ordered after the regular kitchen closed...if you do not mind? But it all sounds good...remember I am from the 'Fried' Capital States...they do not even know what chicken fried steak is here...

you gotta work up to it, I eat fried but I have been at it a while...mix it up with veggies and citrus, it cuts through all that grease....

HAPPY NEW YEAR to all 4 buffalos....

Just telling it like it is said...

Okay for a moment I thought you deep fried the cheese cake...but I love fried pickles I'm just a country girl...

I saw an infomercial back before Christmas for a George Foreman deep-fryer that somehow spins away all the grease from the food after it's cooked.

Which sounded like a good idea (lots of bum tickers in my family, so I'm leery of cholesterol), but a hot grease centrifuge sounded REALLY scary.

I think if you freeze the pickles they will come out better too. BTW, love fried pickles.

Brown Eyed Girl said...

Oh, maybe you could add something like funnel cakes to your list of fried foods. Top it with one of your fruity sauces and some powdered sugar. Yum!!!

Dear Buf

Buf --

There's a blogging award, called A Hoy,that was started at Christmas. I was fortunate enough to receive one, and was instructed to pass it on to 5 blogs that I really like and yours was one of the 5 I chose.

Please accept it with my best wishes and pay it forward.

Thanks,
Jeanne

Rules for Making an Award
1. Pick five blogs that you consider deserve this award based upon any criteria - for example, the quality of the commentary, wit, humour, artwork, overall design, value to you of the information being provided, and so on.
2. The awarding blogger should choose at least two blogs not on his or her own blogroll, the purpose being to encourage variety of reading matter, and to have the person making the award think about what they like to see and read.
3. Your five choices must be published in a dedicated post on your own blog. This post must contain the name of the author (which may be their logon name), and also a link to his or her blog to be visited by everyone. This post should contain brief details of what attracted you to the blog. Details may also be posted in the comments section of "What is a Hoy?"
4. In the same dedicated post, each winner has to show the award and acknowledge the blog that has given him or her the award.
5. Both those awarding and receiving A Hoy must show the link to A Hoy blog, so that everyone will know the origin of this award.
6. When publishing details of the blogs to which you have made your awards, these rules must be published for recipients to follow.

Ake- No, but don't ever think I won't try some day!
Tavolini- I just want normalcy to reign for ONE FRIGGIN' DAY!
Marmy- You haven't read my comments to you, have you? I would have expected more!
Doc- I'll check it out in a moment!
Dear Jeanne- I never accept, or award/pass these things along...(must have 15+ by now!) I don't have many rules, but I think all blogs are equal, and love all who comment or try.. Thanks anyway! If this seems hurtful, please think about a person who never gets one..I have boxes of trophys- let's give awards to the folks who don't!

Can I call you Fry-Daddy now?

Chef E said...

Buff- I came over to say congrats I heard you got picked too, but I understand...when you are new at this and having to struggle with re-inventing yourself in the later years, an award cannot hurt...

buffalodick said...

Rog- I won't do it everyday, that's for sure!
G-man- It's a production, but kind of tasty...
Chef- There is stuff I participate in, and stuff I don't. I believe everyone should have their blog any way they want! No hard feelings!
