Sunday Brunch At Home- An Explanation Why I Don't Do This Often!

Saturday, we were informed by my son, that his girlfriend had to work at 1PM, so our normal dinner time probably wouldn't include her. I offered to make "brunch" and could serve it at 11AM- and he loved that idea! Thinking of what I could make, I made up some home made white bread for toast, and decided to make Belgian waffles in my last years Christmas present! Slick unit, has own timer, and pivots both ways(without touching counter!) for more evenly baked waffles.. That stuff, along with thick cut bacon, juice, and coffee should be plenty.. Sunday hits, and I start making the batter for waffles. A new recipe, it had yeast in it, and would have to be allowed to rise for 40 min. Also, you must separate eggs, and beat the whites until peaks form- all of which isn't that hard, just a little time consuming! I was running late, my son calls and says he could come by at 11:15 if that would help me- great! Bacon is in pan, Waffles are being produced, bread is sliced and poised in the toaster at 11:15AM- nobody here yet... At 11:30 I'm getting angry, and have my wife call my son and find out where the heck he and his girlfriend are, as they are late! My wife hangs up at flatly announces to be that the twice a year time change we have in Michigan was last night, and it is actually 10:30AM... Brushing the horses' tail out of my horses' ass face, I decide to feed my wife, and make them food when they got here. Fortunately they don't live far, and were here is less than 10 minutes! My son apologizes, and I said to him "I've been trying hard figuring out how to blame you, but I'm coming up with nothing!". We laugh, and have a meal that was actually pretty good! For the record, I have never before forgot to change the clocks- until this year! It's a bitch to get old...

thats pretty funny I can just imagine you all flustered since you had it all timed out...but whats even more funny is how you seem to always have bread with a side of bread.

sornie- I like a good waffle, but the sugar buzz is incredible..
DogB- I actually considered that too, but those waffles were dense- each had at least one egg in it!

Ah, funny. I once showed up at a friend's house at 7 a.m., when the clocks were changed. It was supposed to have been 8. I was shocked and to find her still in pajamas, until she pointed out that I was in the wrong.

I leave the changing of the clocks to MWM, he's never forgotten - yet. ;)

Thankfully we don't have to change our watch time ever! We go by the Indian standard time all the year round!

Waffles sound fun! are they like what we make icecream cones out of?

Ggirl- I swear to God, the media around here said nothing to warn me!
Ake- I used to have an atomic clock that would change automatically, but it broke during our kitchen remodeling- I'm going to get another one!
Mona- I wish they would do away with the time change. Waffle cones are different from waffles- they just look waffly..:)

I feel your pain. I also forgot to set the clock back this year for the first time. Arrrgh! I'm usually the one laughing at all the people who forget, but this time around.

Big hearty breakfasts are always a hit.

Beth- Brother Dog has taken me to task on this a couple of times.. It didn't stop anyone from eating what I made! The only thing these people wanted was more bacon...

Jeff- You and I share a trait, you take your lumps with grace, but always plot a revenge! I admire that! Lose a battle, never lose the war!!!! You are getting to an age where "plausable deniability" is an option...

Just telling it like it is said...

I have to say nice bunss..No pun intended...I'm still waiting for that homemade bread!!!

Told you its an age thing!!!! Up and gift wrapped, awaiting your "opinion", even if it has some sort of rectum.....

Michigan...... sigh...... home....

Why did I ever leave, and can I ever come home? Someday, I must come home before I die.

Bob Segur played my 8th grade sock hop, he was in the 10th grade.

Remember George Romney and Soapy Williams? Those were the days.

Darngirl- This bread was remindful of those Hawaiian rolls- soft and sweet..
Queenie- Bravo! I really like this new avatar!
real cab driver- Welcome to the blog, and you're welcome back in Michigan- or what's left of it! Seeger still gets a lot of play on the jukes in the neighborhood bars...

Lini- I don't screw up enough to keep track, but I always "own" up to my oopsies!
Mona- Don't know why I'm getting a hug from you, but I'll never turn one down!

Just telling it like it is said...

oh now your just teasing me!!!

Now I'm really hungry! Those waffles sound so good. Are there any left?

buffalodick said...

Darngirl- Well, I noticed on your blog this talk of cleavage.. you're teasing me!
kirsten- To do waffles right requires more time than I usually would spend on Breakfast! If I make them 4 times a year, that waffle maker will probably be in my will- I'll leave it to you!

The first time I had ever had a waffle was 3 years ago when I was in Wisconson.... :) loved it, except it was with strawberries lol and it filled the whole plate, I was only able to eat half of it...
