Sunday After Thanksgiving- No Turkey, Please!
We caught a decent amount of snow today, so grocery shopping will be tomorrow's activity! Had enough ingredients to make a home made white bread, that would go well with spaghetti, covered in a ground beef basil-tomato sauce... I don't know about you, but after a feast day like Thanksgiving, all I want is a simple meal- as far away from leftovers as I can get! I know- you folks watch me work with leftovers a lot, but not today! This stuff was simple and it did hit the spot... I always grate my own Parmesan and Romano for a cheese topping that is long on flavor, but actually short on volume. The good stuff goes further- really! The photo of my redneck dinnerware(paper plate!)is because my son now has to work all day on Sundays alone, and can't take a break to come over for the meal.. We deliver!
Tomorrows menu will feature turkey wild rice soup, with some of that home made bread in the form of a toasted cheese sandwich. Also have to make a cheesecake- flavor not decided yet.... have a good week!

No turkey left overs this week, since I left it in the step mom's fridge this afternoon. Spicy Tomato Okra soup tonight for me, minus a blog :)
I could sure go for a toasted cheese on that fantastic looking bread - I swear I caught a warm yeasty whiff
Chef- sounds delightful! I will eat soup at a homeless shelter- if it's any good!
DogB- I decided on the soup, but now I have to pick out a cheese... when you love them all, this is tough!
All I got to say is there is a lot of turkey where I live except it is not food:)
darngirl- Must try different bars! You are too cute, and do not have to settle for a turkey!
what?! after thanksgiving all i want to eat again is...thanksgiving!
Happy Thanksgiving!!
That snow was crazy--I thought we would be stuck in Detroit for weeks :)
For some reason, I always want Chinese food the day after Thanksgiving.......(for once I have no leftovers...went to a good friend's house)...but I do have a turkey in the freezer that I'm intending on cooking soon.....
Peace
Dam, why must I pop in here when Im hungry and go away with me tummy rumbling to be fed LOL
That break looks delicious... I love toasted cheese sarnies.... ok thats me lunch sorted, you tempted me lol..

Pink- Leftovers were too much this year!
Tavolini- I've been stuck here for decades... :)
Odat- I actually cook turkey about 4 times a year- I like the stuff!
Marmy- I'm getting the hang of bread coming out the way it's supposed to! Home made bread always toasts so well...
And my care package is where?
Finn- You would be fun to cook for!
That looks great! Found you by way of MM...
You're right homemade bread does toast well, lovely with heaps of butter and a nice cup of tea. :)
BD: Looks like you had a delightful Turkey day. We went to a friends house to eat and she was in a weird mood, needless to say we didn't get the usual care package sent home with us...so no leftovers at my place. :(
But darlin hubby went out and bought a ham and cooked it on Sunday...yummy... and he also made some green split pea soup...to die for...and I never used to like that soup when I was a kid! Go Figure!!
Look forward to your turkey soup receipe...I may just have to buy me a turkey for this weekend!
Buff- I saved a smoke trout for you, so come on over!
Hi Buff!
I can always get my food-gasm right here. I love every kind of cheese. I like to melt Saga cheese on bread and have a side of more Saga cheese :-)
My turkey was good, but enough is enough. I had "poor man's spaghetti" which is sauteed tomatoes, mushrooms, onion and spices over noodles.
Like the name? haha
somebody said cheese cake?!
I forgot what the rest of the post was about!
the bread looks great! I love grilled cheese with tomato!
I did the turkey thing until Sat. After that I just couldnt look at it! I boiled a bit for the dogs then froze some in gravy for a pot pie later in the month! Thankfully we do Fish for Xmas Eve and beef on Xmas day! lol
Jennybean- Welcome to the blog!
Ake- Bread was so good, we just had that and the turkey rice soup last night..
Lulda- Done with the turkey, but we also have a big hunk of ham to work with!
ChefE-Smoked trout sounds great right now...
Kayla- Good to hear from you! I think everyone has seen enough turkey for a while!
Mona- I'll probably make that cheesecake today!
kate- Gotta start planning our Christmas time menu....Ribs for sure on Christmas Eve!
Did I hear Ribs...set a place for me and I like a saucy batch please :) (and that smile is saucy)
ChefE- I may market my sauce some day! I could be a better cook, but I have a nice touch with sauces...
Does your son know how lucky he is, getting lovely home made food delivered!? I can totally understand your craving for something simple after such a turkey feast!
I'm a fiend when it comes to bread and that bread looks YUMMY!
I know what you means about the leftovers from Thanksgiving. It being just the two of us means leftover turkey for a while.
How nice of you to take care of him when he has to work. Never stop being a papa bear ;).
Nothing like homemade bread and spaghetti. Makes the house smell wonderful, too. Bring on the carbs, I say!
Anette- He actually does appreciate it! I guess your're a parent for life...
anndi- I think we're all on turkey overload! Momma bear does the caring, I do the cooking!
UrbanV- Easy for you to say... what do you weigh? Looks like about 100 and nothin'... :) But it sure looks good!
mmmmm, toasted cheese on that bread would be fabulous!!!!!
Beth, truth be told, with a warm bowl of soup, good bread, good cheese, and a hut with a warm fire... that's livin'...
