Mini-Meme- I Like A Chef Salad, Which Salad Is your Favorite?
Last night, we enjoyed a Chefs' salad.. Lettuce medley, quartered hard boiled egg, Swiss and Pinconning cheese, bacon, turkey, tomatoes, celery, carrots, and a red onion- all topped with salad dressing, mine Bleu cheese, wife enjoyed one shown(guess!). These are a substantial meal! Today's questions are:
1. What is your favorite salad?
2. What is the one you never want to see again?
Anything goes! So get going!

1. What is your favorite salad?
My very favorite is Portillo's Chopped Salad (Chopped Romaine & Iceberg lettuce mixed with Ditalini pasta, chicken breast, bacon, tomato, red cabbage, Gorgonzola cheese, green onion and their house dressing.)
2. What is the one you never want to see again?
Any salad that includes Jell-O as an ingredient, especially if chunks of fruits or vegetables are added *shudder*
I like a fresh garden mix. Hand cut croutons and any veggie except broccoli. Bacon is also great. As for dressing, depends on my mood.
I love moroccan coucous with shedded green salad, steamed fresh salmon flaked with crumbly stilton cheese all mixed together with a blob of chilli mayo LMFAO.... thats what I had for me lunch MINUSE the salmon :)
Im not to good with salads that have olives on, even though as strange as this is, Im fine with olive oil and olive bread but olives on pizzas or out of jars brings me out in a rash LOL... other then that I LOVE salad of any description... minuse any bacon or pork product of course..
I do LOVE boiled eggs in salads to lol... dam I just love most foods :)

gooood girl- If only you were not computer generated, I'd feel flattered...
Dana- sounds kick-butt good! I miss those salads, since I am no longer six, and don't have to attend church pot-lucks..only time we got marshmallows..
Doc- we could probably have a salad together before the 7 course meal of BB-Q!
Marmy- I will make you a salad some day.. the one you described sounds great!
I love most any salads that anyone else would make and put in front of me, because I did not have to make it, lol, I like blue cheese, apples, bacon, eggs, and what ever else you got in the fridge...throw it on!
likes: Greens, mixed greens, mesclun maybe a little red onion and tomato and some thin sliced kirbys - light vinegrette - or a homemade buttermilk dressing.
dislikes: I dont like all kinds of chunky things and other foods in a salad.
Favorite: Nicoise sans anchovies and eggs.
Never want to see again: I like all meatless salads. Really!
Salads are one of my favorite foods. I am a huge fan of chicken ceaser salad and I also like almost all fruits and veggies.
However, I had some salad at St Louis Bread Co, and it had something with Feta cheese and some raspberry vinagerette dressing and ew! It was terrible!! I can't believe I put it in my mouth! Yuck! :P

The kids and I just mixed together a huge chef salad two nights ago! Yum!
My favorite is a toss up (pun? lol) between a taco salad and. Ceasar.
Never want to see again? Anything with meat AND fruit. (chicken breast & mandarin oranges specifically) ICK!
what I want to know is where do you come up with all these yummy recipes?? When I cooked daily as a domestic Goddess I had the hardest time coming up with new things weekly??
1)Mixed leaves, tomatoes seeded and chopped, cucumber the same, finely chopped red chili, feta cheese, pomegranate seeds. A shoulder of Lamb cooked for at least 5hrs shredded like crispy duck. A dressing of E.V olive oil, mint & chopped capers & honey. Mmmmm I know know whats for lunch tomorrow.
2) Iceberg lettuce, chunks of other salad stuff, slopped about in mayo, yuck!!!!
1. I love a simple salad of tomatoes, black olives, cucumber, feta cheese and a drizzle of olive oil
2. I hate sloppy salad.
chef e- blue cheese(Maytag!)yessss!!
DogB- Just retreived your VM message, will call soon!
U-Vegan- Why did I know this? :)
Snowniece- That raspberry stuff ain't for me!
lieghann- I'm OK with your likes- and dislikes!
darngirl- I bet you didn't! Tacos from home tonight!
Queenie- No cukes! I hate them!
Ake- Sloppy is OK with me, but no cucumbers!
Russian Salad is my favorite. I have yet to taste an ewe salad
hehehehe...
Nobody asked about the Pinconning Cheese.
Likes: my own version of greek salad: iceberg, tomato, celery, cucumber, spring onions, basil and feta cheese
Dislikes: salads with to much salad dressing or raw onions.
Likes: hmm, I like the chinese chicken salad (sans chicken), a greek salad, and a good caesar. I'm pretty picky about the caesar, though.
Dislikes: I don't like really thick dressing. Clumps of 1000 Island over iceberg doesn't appeal to me. And prepared coleslaws aren't very good either.
Mona- I don't know what a ewe salad is! Does it have something to do with sheep?
G-man- Sam's Club now carries a 2lb. block of Williams sharp for about $4.50 a lb.!
anette- Welcome to the blog! Your salad sounds good, but I'd pick the cukes out of it!
Tav- Used to hate cole slaw, but I went on a mission to make one I did like!
salad is one of my very very favorite things to eat...I eat at least one a day. But as far as a fave?...we had this salad at my daughter's wedding...it was mixed greens, strawberries, manadarin oranges and dried cranberries, with a sweet and sour dressing that was OUTTA THIS WORLD!!!!! OMG!! My mouth is watering right this very minute.
I love homemade cole slaw--I make it every couple weeks. But the stuff at fast food places or that you buy at the grocery store?? Yuck!
Beth- Love a watery mouth, hope you know I was kiddin' on the nostril crack!
Tav- oddly enough, we have a chicken joint that makes a whoop-ass cole slaw.. Go figure!
A colleague of mine makes a heavenly salad with grilled peppes, lots og garlic, balsamico vinegar and feta cheese. Its one of the best I've tasted! Those peppers!
anette- That sounds just about right in my book! I've got all the ingredients, now please give me the proportions!
Come on over and see what I have to go with that salad, and get your big spoon ready!
I'm definitely going to take notes so that I have some good dinners!
:D Ewe is another name for yuck & you know that! :D
I love Chef and Taco salads.
I guess any jello salads are a no-no.
Now all Chef and Taco salads are not alike unless you make them yourself. So sometimes I don't even enjoy those.
When at home I usually do a plain salad...romaine, leaf lettuce, cheese, olives or whatever is available and I love having a dressing made up of fresh lemon juice, olive oil, s&p and maybe some garlic powder...got that one from a Mexican neighbor.
Ooo, this is hard.
A good greek salad, with tomatoes, cucumbers, feta, and anchovies, oh the anchovies!
Another that I love is sliced fennel, with blood orange slices, tossed with a little olive oil, salt & pepper. The licorice taste, along with sweet and salty...mmmmmmmmm
I can't stand that salad with the broccoli and bacon and mayo and sunflower seeds. The first time I ever tried it, at a country church luncheon, whoever made it put so much sugar in the mayho that I actually thought she'd used cool whip. To this day I can't stomach the stuff.
Happy Thanksgiving to Buf & Family! :)
Chef E- Will do..
Darngirl- Must have dozens of recipes in my past posts!
Mona- You mean Eeeewww! Got it!
lulda- You can make a lot of salads from a little of this and that!
Gnightgirl- I've collected a number of old church cook books- and the recipe duplication in the Midwest is staggering!
Mona- Thanks! One more week...
I have two favs: Arugula, beet and goat cheese salad....and Greek salad....with feta cheese and greek olives........
I can't eat Shrimp salad!!! Mayo and shrimp just doesn't go ....in my book.
Peace
Odat- Arugula has some of the best beaches in the Carribean! Hee Hee Hee...I ate beets once, beets strained, and me constrained, chained in a high chair..HeeHeeHee... Laugh, dammit, I'm trying to be funny! I'm the Buf... gotta love me!
Hey buff, have you been nipping at your cooking sherry or what???? :-)
Peace
I like a Greek Salad. Lots of homemade Lemon Oregeno Vinegrette, tossed with crispy romaine, kalamatta olives, red onion. baby cucumbers, red peppers, good tomato, and real imported Greek feta cheese and on the side of the plate toasted baguette that soaks up the dressing. YUMMY!
oh and I adore a very well made warm spinich salad with a poached egg on top.
i detest a bad generic caesar salad with stale hard croutons (denny's style)
