The Eternal Appetizer... Chicken Wings!
It is a rare gathering of family or friends where "wings" don't make an appearance.. I mostly love the darn things- but have had some that were down right nasty! The original Buffalo wing recipe from the Anchor bar in Buffalo NY has to be at the top of my dislike list- really! Somewhat greasy, vinegary, hot (in a bad way!) the only redeeming factor is that they are traditionally served with blue cheese dressing, and celery stalks... Wings have been around long enough for innovative cooks to fiddle and tweak the recipe until there are dozens of choices to suit your taste buds! I've seen HOT wings, Southwestern wings, Asian wings, honey mustard wings, and all of these wings mentioned can be battered or unbattered!
I'm lazy when it comes to these treats. I buy a 4lb. frozen bag of unbattered wings, all sectioned, with tips removed for about $8.00. Frozen, I bake at 400F for 20 minutes, take out of oven, dump whatever sauce I've picked that day all over them, and bake for another 20 minutes. Good to go.... The ones pictured today (sorry for the crappy photo!) were an Asian/Korean sauce (Soy sauce, hoisin sauce, honey, hot sauce, rice vinegar, sesame oil, onion and garlic powder). All gone now....

you didnt make enough to share - I guess you are not a 'socialist' like that - heck I count a little over a dozen pieces I can eat at least 8 -10 of those - your sauce sounds good, I usually like my sauce on the side so I can regulate each and every bite.
DogB- I pour on most of the sauce- but not all, for extra dips! It was for two of us- and we were knawing the bones for more!
ya Buff....ya gotta make more than that! Damn! my boy ate FOUR steaks the other day at football practice...AND half a chicken, We need more wings!
Your making me hungry I ate way too much yesterday and since we didn't have that many trick-or-treaters I was force to eat the candy.New blog up and I love that Beth she's the sweetest!!
Beth- Cross-dressing boys can eat a lot! DO NOT let let do that again! Jeebus H Cripes...
DarnG- We had same problem.. footprints on ceiling from sugar buzz.. Don't ever tell Beth I think she's the best... she is used to abuse and being ignored... HeeHeeHee... Large, wet kiss where you would like it best, Beth!
A good old standby and delicious too!
I don't like wings, I'm a little bit funny that way. I think its cos there is more skin than meat, I don't do skin, only on rare occasions and then it has to be really crispy....
Can you believe it I have admitted to something in the food line I don't like, then again if i hadn't dinned for a while!!!!!
Damn man , you the Mutha-f-ing wingmaster !! I'll be trying that recipe...there starting to be less creative with wings here in nyc.
I heard that Buffalo wings are famous.
Of course, with you cooking, they would be gone in a jiffy :D
Ake- Believe it or not, I like Hooters wings when going to a restaurant... I really feel uncomfortable with girls in low cut outfits( girls younger than my sons!)serving them... I always ask; "Do you have any older wait staff that has met gravity that could serve us?"... :)
Queenie- Well, the unbattered are marginally healthier, and you can always take the skin off..
King Hack- Welcome to the blog! Stopped by yours.. well, written stuff!
mona- Thanks! Although mine aren't as famous as Buffalo NY wings, I do like them better!
Well, maybe that's why mine don't come out right. I buy the same wings you do, but I throw the sauce or rub on them before I put them in the oven. I guess I should bake them for 20 minuntes first, huh?
Wings are awesome. All chickens should be born with 24 wings.
that sounds good. i always wondered what kind of chickens those are...they midgets?
I adore chicken wings. I like the little tiny drumstick ones, and my husband likes the wingy ones. I also like mine a bit drier. However, I AM NOT PICKY. I'll eat them ALL. :-)
In preferance I'm with Vodka mom...
I boil my wings first...then buy 1 good bottle of sauce and 1 cheap bottle of sauce...let the boiled babies marinate in combo sauces...then cook em up. Also, have extra sauce on side...I like mine hot & spicey.
OH, and I don't believe you about those HOOTERS CHIcks...LOL :P
Now I'm starving! I've never met a chicken wing I didn't love!
Bina- Came out pretty OK the way I tried them.. some of the sweeter sauces might burn a bit under 380-400F for 40 minutes.
gene- Welcome back! Don't give that Tyson plant by the nuke power plant any ideas!
Tanya- No, but I suspect that they're pretty young.. about six weeks... I know what you're thinking...
VodkaM- Around here they call the ones you like "Drummies"!
Lulda- Boil? Well, yeah.. I guess that would work quicker..
Kirsten- Welcome to the blog! I've never made them a lot, but I think this Holiday season, I'll be hauling them to a few get- togethers!
DICK this is TAVO! I live for wings.
not windings. but olives and cheesecakes-hell yes.
Buff, you are so SMART and wise! I love the comment you left at Beth's about change. You hit it right on the head.
Tav- I used to think wings were a guy thing, until I had to fight my wife for the last one!
bina- Thanks! I figured out once, about 85% of the bad things that ever happened to me were self-inflicted.. that other 15% is just life doing what it does- with no emotion..
I thought you doodles called them buffalow wings? or am I confused lol....
Im a little with Queenie here, I dont do skin unless its right proper crispy.... but I LOVE chicken with a passion.... sorry janet..
