Annual Trip Up North To Deer Camp!
I'm not hunting this year, but my son wanted to go- so we're going! The place we have has more than enough things to do besides shooting a deer. Just a little get away for me- leaving at about 11AM today, and coming back tomorrow in the afternoon. A buddy of mine got a deer, and will give me half, if I turn the rest of his half into jerky! I've done it before- good deal for both of us! See you all when I get back!

If you run out of things to do with the venison - you have my address...
Would love to see a post about making jerky.
DogB- Making venison jerky the way I do(trimming the fell, cracks of fat, etc. can take me more time than it is worth! Last time I did this for my friend, I was at the cutting board for hours..It would help if he didn't get it processed first into steak, chops, and roasts!
Doc- You got it! That will probably be my next post..
Have a great time Buff! Venison is one of my good childhood memories! This time of year always brought yummy treats!
:(
I hear Da Yoopers already!
"IT'S THE SECOND WEEK OF DEER CAMP
AND ALL THE GUYS ARE HERE
WE DRINK PLAY CARDS AND SHOOT THE BULL
BUT NEVER SHOOT NO DEER
THE ONLY TIME WE LEAVE THE CAMP
IS WHEN WE GO FOR BEER
THE SECOND WEEK OF DEER CAMP
IS THE GREATEST TIME OF YEAR"
Oh have a lovely time, but just be safe with all those guns around... dont make me bloody worry.......
Come back safe and in one piece...
x
Have a good trip, take care x
Enjoy your short getaway...and put me on the jerky list! That's the only way I'll eat dear...
oops this could be interrupted as x-rated! :D
Man, I miss them gun toten' days...my mind is going crazy with recipes for the venison you are sending me *wink, wink*
Good luck man!
dana- Didn't see squat, but had some backstraps given to me- sauteed in pan with mushrooms, onion and seasonings- what a feast!
finn- It wasn't like Donner Pass or anything....
tav- Cribbage, food, and screwing off were the priorities!
Marmy- We're pretty careful with the firearms- no worries!
Ake-Trip good, snow landed all around us, but we got blessed with only an 1 inch!
lulda- starting jerky production Sunday...
Chef- Good stuff, in the right hands!
Rog- Week before, buddy got a 4 point, his friend got an 8 point!
Is this the Big Beaver camp??
beth- Absolutely correct!
If you have too much venison, send it our way! We haven't hunted in a while (health reasons) and miss that yummy stuff. We used to say we were only "walking with guns" when no deer was bagged that day. Have fun! ♥ ∞
I even can skin it, and cut it up for everyone *wink*, yeah take out the whole lot of 'em for Dog, I on the other hand, would not want to compete with him, I would never be able to concentrate on the real task at hand, HA
Can't wait to see what delicious concoction you come up with your catch.
It's better if I don't know I'm eating Bambi's mother.
Buffalo!! We would love to hang--we are in the city, sharing wheels with my family (and my sister just got a new-to-her car so we'll see) Regardless, if you find yourself on Big Beaver(that's for you Beth, and I grew up there!), or anywhere directly in the Detroit area, holler!!
I love venison, my absolute favourite. Have a good time and take care..
Sparky- Welcome to the blog! No luck this year..
Chef- I'd like to process my own, but I'm not set up for it...
Jesse- Welcome to the blog! I do have some venison, but my wife isn't too nuts about it!
anndi- I'd rather cook it, than kill it, but somebody has to...
Tavolini- Our hunting lodge is The Big Beaver Hunt Club!
Queenie- I enjoy it myself, but not much is raised commerciallly in the USA!
Ahhh venison...I just could never get over that wild taste..coarse my family eats rabbit and squirrl..and you wonder what is wrong with me? Hope you have a wonderful time with your son..did you know that I have a beautiful 13yr old and he is so big 6ft..they grow up so fast...my heart walking outside of me...sorry I am in a cheesy mood wait until you read my blog...;)
Good luck!! Have a wonderful trip.

Darngirl- It's OK to be cheesy once in awhile!
VodkaM- Kind of a non-event, but a good get away with my son..
Pink- You're back! Vension jerky post probably Wed.!
So....You are the 'Camp Bitch' this year?
I hope those guys know how lucky they are...Have fun.
G-man- What camp? everyone hunted the opening week, son and I went following week- we were it! Made a meal of venison backstraps to die for, sauteed in onions, mushrooms, and butter...
so did you hunt deer or black buck?
I have tasted deer meat. It is slightly sour!
Mona- Our animals are, and taste differently than India's, I'm sure.. Our deer taste different, depending on the food available to them in their habitat.. Cooking techiques, and how they are dressed out when shot, all come into play!
This sounds like a lot of boy fun. Enjoy!
Jen- Dear, sorry about your grandfather, hope everything is OK...
