Would You Believe Another Chili Cook-Off?

Last night, I prepared my competition red chili for a contest today! Usually you have to make the stuff on-site of the contest, but a few places- mostly the small cook-offs sometimes have a crock pot format. This means everybody can make it the night before and let it cold blend overnight. This also means there is alot of good chili because of this! I have 5 or 6 trophies from this place over the 10 or 11 yrs. I've been going to it, and they are old friends to boot! For once, I took a couple of pictures of the chili, before it was all gone! I rarely get a whole bowl of my own chili, because I hardly ever make it unless if it's for a competition or a crowd! It really hit the spot, but still needs more tweaks before the contest... Wish me luck!
Addendum : Seems like everybody today had trouble "dialing in" their chili- including me! I did manage a 3rd place finish, won $25 bucks and a small trophy... believe me, with the chili I made today- I'm grateful!

I've got a container of chilli (home made) out of the freezer for dinner tonight. It's always better than it was when first cooked, and it was pretty good then. We'll have it with Garlic bread. Yummy!

throw some new mexico red in there and it wont be a regional winner it will be national....while I can understand if you are dead set in your ways it couldn't possibly hurt.

ake- We'll Americanize your taste buds one of these days...
Mona- Thanks, dear! Small turnout today- weather was too nice to be indoors!
DutchBabe- Long time no see! The contests are done now until fall..
dana- Posted a picture of my little trophy- 3rd!
DogB- While we argue the merits of a given chili powder, I watched a guy put chopped cucumbers in his red chili today... Couldn't figure out why he didn't place...

I can tell you why.....but none the less....there are few merits and chile is chile..good luck and dont use funky vegetables "though there is nothing wrong with that"

Congrats on taking third, although it sounds like you were less than impressed with your offering.

Hey sometimes you're the pot and sometimes you're the bean!

DogB- One of the first rules of tasting someone elses' chili in a contest, is to keep a straight face, don't throw up, and find something nice to say about it- no matter how bad it is!
jeff- One of the rate times all us veteran cooks in the contest agreed- nobody made really good chili that day...

I can smell it from here. While I won't eat meat chili, I DO love the scent it fills the kitchen with while it's cooking. I've even been known to dip bread in the sauce from time to time. ;) Must have tasted AMAZING. :)

I went to that chili cook off last october and experienced that very thing...a couple of the contestants made some "who knows what" and called it chili...

odat- Whatever you made probably would have won this cook-off!
claudia- Vegetarian chili can be excellent, but I'd probably go and put it on a hot dog anyway....:)
insane M- Welcome to the blog! As we often say "We can't make better chili, we need better judges!".
DogB- Some of us have cooked against each other so often, we all can honestly critique each others without a fist fight...
Mona- Worked great! Thanks again, I owe you one...
