1St Chili Cook Off Of The Year...

We found out about a chili cook-off a couple of weeks ago, and decided a tune-up before the big season would be a good idea. It was held at a V.F.W. Post in our neighborhood, so we got in it. Our friends and major competition Dragon Spit was there, so we knew there would be another battle for a trophy! 14 teams- not a big cook-off, but nice people and a decent turn-out. The Buffalo Bros.(us!) made a heck of a batch that day, and liked our chances for winning. Team Dragon Spit had a new banner, a photo book of all their successes, and a good batch of chili to boot! 2nd place goes to- The Buffalo Bros.!! Take a wild guess who won... We have become the dominant teams in this areas' chili cook-offs, and yesterday I noticed the teams that didn't win more than the ones that did. They worked as hard as we did, and got no trophy. They had fun, people had a great time- but have you ever felt bad about winning? Live and learn... Oh, the trophy was really nice- until I dropped it... The picture is what frozen, leftover chili looks like when left in a trunk in Michigan when it hits zero.... :)
P.S. Yes, DoggieBloggy I used some of that chili powder from New Mexico you sent- hot stuff!

snowniece- Dork? I'm the dork that dropped our trophy...
DogB- Fabulous flavor, but it had snap! We used it for the heat and lights on the end!
michelle- I've had it over rice- and it's better than you'd think...
Cinninnati Style over pasta is not something I've ever done...
dana- Thanks, but no it really doesn't! I thought my buddy who cooks with me-Chili Dan, had gotten the left overs out and cleaned the pot!

I never knew there were so many chili cook-offs in this country --or just in an area of this country--until I started following your blog.

snowelf: I've never considered myself a 'dork' but that's EXACTLY what I thought!!

buff: I know what you mean about feeling bad in a winning situation...been there, done that!

A bowl of your chili would be wonderful right now, with a big hunk of corn bread!!

UrbanV- You can cook with the best I've ever seen! Find a chili cook-off, and cook it vegetarian! The base sauce is the key, I will send you the killer dust if you like- It's good stuff... No one around here debates my blend of chili spices! No animals were harmed in the production of this spice blend!
in_spired- I'm no preacher, but if I ever lose empathy with others, I will have lost more than I wish to ever lose..
P.S.- People have seen Heaven after a bowl of my chili... :)

Beth- We really did nail it!
mel- Thanks! We get home and crash after these things, and clean up the mess the next morning...
jeff- I am a certified judge of the K.C.B.S., and have cooked in Michigans' largest sanctioned BB-Q contest for all the years it's been held! I'll take a picture of our ribbons and post it- someday!
Rog- It's cold alright! To an ice fisherman like you- no problem..
pink- It's a hobby that usually benefits a charity, is fun to do, and still have a chance to get a trophy!
leighann- I thought you guys in Illinois spelled it "chilli"! The spoon was still frozen in it...

Been a little busy here & there and have been experiencing some network problems too. Plus, we have been having eight hours power load shedding daily. Hope to come up with a post soon :)

Don't feel bad about getting a trophy you deserve it. You want me to scupper the team that keeps getting first place? ((wink, wink))

R.L.L.- My chili the next day, unlike most- is quite bland, due to the chili powders used! Can be "jacked up" with fresh powder and is great!

I sure hope you have plenty of ice cream to eat the next day.

Potty breaks are never fun the day after eating chili.

Congratulations on the win! Frozen chili looks good! When my husband makes a batch, we always end up freezing some. He makes it a little too spicy now for my taste.

A few years ago, he switched meds and got on this spicy kick. He suspected the meds made him crave spicy food. So, he made this chili, and it was so hot, I couldn't eat it. He went on for a year about how I could not tolerate spicy foods, because he made this hot chili and I couldn't eat it. Well, I finally asked him what he put in there to make it so spicy! Oh, a little of this, a little of that, one cup of CAYENNE PEPPER! I told him that he couldn't boost about me not liking his spicy food if he put a cupt of cayenne pepper in the chili. LOL

marmy- They are fun, usually for a charity! You should get a trophy for cooking alot every night!
preprop- I'm reaching an age where a righteous dump in the morning is a pleasure!
mona- C or F scale on degrees? Either one is too cold for your part of the world!
lynda- A cup of Cayenne could power a rocket to the moon!
