Personal Day Monday...

I decided when I saw a flat tire on my company car last night, that I would take today off. With the wife gone this past week end, less got done than normal. Saturday was a long day at a chili cook off(I took 4th, but my usual pardner took 1st!) . Our friends that have been winning so much took 2nd so we had to all go back to the home bar and brag/explain/reason out the day! That got late, so Sunday was layback. Today I've got to fix a tire, grocery shop, haircut, do the paperwork I'm always talking about, and 10:30pm or so pick up my wife at the train station. For reference- You can drive from Grand Rapids MI to Kansas City MO faster than a train! However, with gas prices climbing it is slightly cheaper by train! Air fare and driving are almost a wash now(for that trip)! Somebody gave me a big ass bag of aspargus to turn into something different-but I don't know what! That is one veggie served best lightly steamed, with a little salt, pepper and butter(I think!). Well, I'd best get to it!

My grandmother takes the train from California to Chicago, and it takes about 4 days. She loves it.

I still prefer flying, but then again, I have never been in a train.

Good luck with the tire.

I like how you slyly slipped in a tidbit about gas prices. I snapped when I saw the prices and am contemplating whether or not I can use tap water to power my hoopty.

I [Heart] Asparagus.
And pretty much any veggie.
I like the white creamy sauce on it, but I don't know how to make it, so it's usually garlic salt, pepper, and no calorie spray butter. :P

I so miss driving, although as a student in this country, I probably couldn't afford it!

Hope you enjoyed your personal day. I love asparagus--just don't like the "after effects," if you know what I mean.

Finn- The worst day off I ever had was better than working!
Lynda- The train way to go is okay if you are not in a barn-burning hurry!
doggyb-I just might do exactly that!
sornie- At 3.50 headed for 4.00 it will affect alot of peoples' attitude about traveling(shopping/spending)I will be writing a dissertation on this soon!
Snow- Could be hollandaise, but I have put alfredo on it with good results!
Jen- Driving cars is integral to the Midwest/Western way of life in America! They built roads instead of rails, cars instead of buses, trucks instead of trains.
UrbanVGirl-What? Peeing kelly green? It does get your attention!
Pink- Let me guess- you went out to eat!

Asparagus: brush it w/ a little olive oil, and put it on the grill.

good for you...I always encourage days off.

as for the asparagas i like Dreena Burton's recipe of chopping asparagas and searing it in soy sauce, rice vinegar a little sesame oil and toping that with cilantro and sesame seeds. and i think a dash of lemon? mmm...damn fine product.
