Pizza Bread And Onion Wraps, With Walnut Fudge Brownies

My wife had bought some great sub buns- and they were getting a little stiff.. Perfect for a pizza flavored topping! Imagine designer whole wheat sub buns, split to make four halves.. Topped with a slow simmered tomato sauce loaded with basil, oregano, fennel, onion, garlic, red wine vinegar, salt and red pepper. Grated Parmesan, and Romano, mixed with shredded Mozzarella onto the sauce, topped with mushrooms and pepperoni- broiled until bubbly- well, it was good! My son and his girlfriend were able to stop by..we had the open faced pizza, onion wraps, and brownies for an impromptu meal that was fun for the fellowship, if not the food! I love family at the table.. It makes me feel like a part of something timeless and ageless.. It bonds families, I think.

Family around the table is one of the biggest joys in life. Not something I have very often because everyone lives so far away. But I enjoyed it immensely while they were here. Talking after we eat, all relaxed and sated. Good times. Really good.

I love sitting at the table with my extended family. There's usually more laughing than eating, but whatever. ;)

Not sure how I feel about fennel in the tomato sauce. Is it strong?

Mona- Good to hear from you... Wishing you strength and peace in the coming New Year..
Boots- I'm no planner! I don't know what I'm going to fix until I make it!
Barb- You got it right!
G-man- You know it! You can't fix the world's problems, but you can feed the ones you love..
Ake- We miss that- when there were our two, and usually some of their friends..
BlueV- The food was an excuse to have them over!
Highlander- They got a kick out me calling Comcast for over billing us $2000! I showed them how nice I could be while reaming someone a new exit in their behind!
Finn- Fennel is a slightly licorice flavor well used in Italian cooking..it sweetens and enriches the sauce- somewhat off set by the vinegar, which sharpens it..I love it!

Buff- I am having fun cooking with my son these past few days, and more to come...

Open face pizza is a great idea for us as well...we are trying to eat at home, and not go out to save money...great bonding time indeed!

You have me drooling over the pizzas; incredible you were able to put so much on those designer sub rolls. The onion wraps are real eye candy. Are they wrapped on proscuitto?

Family at the table for dinner...I'm a hard @$$ bitch about that...a hard @$$ that's trying to make happy family memories dang it!

I'm with Kathrine. Families need to eat together as often as possible. Most of the great movie scenes are centered around dinner for a reason. ;)
I love turkey pepperoni when we make our own pizza snacks similar to yours. It's got all of the spice and deliciousness but much healthier.

Actually, I have some day old wheat French loaves I made. This looks like a good lunch idea!

And I have never held dinner without everyone at the table. Someone's working until 9, we'll hold dinner at 9:30. It holds the family together, and creates memories that last forever.

Swear, I read that first line as something about your wife having great buns the first time I read it. Laughed when I re-read it.
