New Year's Eve Food, And A Saturday Morning Breakfast

The good news is we had plenty of food New Year's eve for 8 people! The bad news is we were running late, and there are no photos! Onion wraps, sweet and sour meatballs, bacon wrapped water chestnuts, along with a carrot cake and munchies, made for a snackie kind of night for playing Texas Hold'em with three other couples! They brought more munchies, so the night was filled with card playing, eating and drinking...Broke up about one o'clock..My wife and I won enough to pay for the food!
Spent New Year's Day watching football- congrats to Penn State, and Ohio State- you did the Big Ten proud!
This morning, a brunch of scrambled eggs and hash browns, with orange juice should get us off to a more productive day!
Oh yeah, that's our cat, Willow- who was wondering where the meat was...

Hot sauce on your eggs, one of my favorites!

Friendly poker is always fun with good friends and great food. It's even better when you pay for your treats!

Pumpkin bars with homemade cream cheese frosting are the reason my pants are fitting right now! haha! I just can't get enough of them. Sounds like a fun night for you guys! We hung low here and had some drinks as well. I went to Boise State and they play in the Fiesta Bowl Monday! Be sure to watch!!

I ended up taking a mess of cocktail weiners. I was going to make something fancy, until someone called and said they thought they didn't have enough meat. So weiners it was. I cook mine in the crockpot with a bottle of grape jelly and small bottle of mustard. It's wonderful. And they were gone before I even got through the line, so I call that a win.

We did all finger foods -- of course, when your guests are toddlers, it's all finger food. I was proud of myself, though -- I fed them shrimp, meatballs, raw veggies and bits of fruit. Healthy stuff, and they didn't even ask for junk food.

Donna- Prefry some bacon, until not quite done not, wrap piece of bacon around an individual whole water chestnut, let soak in an oriental or BB-Q sweet sauce(thick). remove from marinade, place under heated broiler until sizzling, remove and serve.
Rachel- Haven't missed too many bowl games yet!
Kate- I love those things too!
Pam- I just thought I'd show you what a cutie she is..
Martha- Not too bad, but it's stinging cold- and I don't want to go out in it!
Jeff- Where Ohio State probably never had played harder in their lives.. Only time I root for them is if they represent the Big 10..
Darngirl- Yeah, I like old friends, and the comfortable feeling I get..
Uber- I explained it to Hope in the 7th comment... easy peasy!
Jeanne- We try to keep it simple, the cards are what's important!

Sometimes it's tough to remember to get the camera out. I made some lobster mac and cheese on the 23rd and the photo is not the greatest. Christmas Day menu was posted last year, pretty much. New Year's Day..no photos of the food at all! (That was the day I was just plain tired!)
Cooking is over for a while, the Detroit group left this AM (you are major cold up there- although we are in the 40's here!) my NY group leaves tomorrow.
Started taking a few things down- but we decided to go see Sherlock Holmes instead. L A Z Y.

Your New years Eve sounded much more exciting than mine: open a bottle of wine, have a glass, pop in a "Criminal Minds" DVD, have another glass of wine, play a "Deal or No Deal" CD, hvae athidr glashh uv winee, trip over the coffee table, fall asleep while watching "The Mentalist", phinish boddle uv winne, start drinking balsamic vinegar, put "fat pants" on-backwurds, complane abowt teh cold, put logs on the frie-but forget to light it, find old can of "Miller Lite" in fridge-open wrong end, rememburr to lite phire, fall into chimney, phall asleep in frnto of TV agenn, wake up, take too asprins and drink NyQuil "for the buzz", watch the countdown get mangled from Times Square, pass out on way to upstairs bedroom.
Happy New Year!
