The Best Kind Of Pizza- Free!

Well, not exactly... a couple of months back, I ordered a pizza from my go to pizza joint- Florentines'.. two blocks from my house, we have had nothing but great pizza, delivered on time(or earlier!) for almost 20 years! Except the last time... Told it would be here in 1/2 hour, it came 1/2 hour late.. cold and pretty much inedible. I'm not the sort who complains to hear my own voice, but over 20 years, you'd think we had formed what I call a bond... I called up and asked for the manager.. a woman came to the phone and wanted to know the problem. I did not recognize her voice, and had never seen a woman in charge of this place. She proceeded to tell me she had been in charge the whole time- which I know was B.S... She was quite short with me, and said she would send out a gift certificate to cover the cost of the pizza.. We finally received it, and plan to use it tonight, as it's colder than all get out and we don't want to grocery shop! After watching some of those shows on TV where employees do nasty things to your food- I'm a little nervous!

RLM- Just made a carrot cake to go with it for dessert..
Highlander- Don't ever watch that show- It will make you sick!

It doesn't sound like you were obnoxious - surely you don't have a thing to worry about. We're having homemade pizza tonight if all goes well.

Vickie- We'll know in about 1/2hr....

It's a shame when it is sooo easy to just man up and admit a mistake, and handle it.

Ah well, hopefully will not be an issue, enjoy. Although not free, you paid for it a month ago

yea, you have to put a lot of faith in people who prepare your food.

free pizza rocks! hope the result is better this time around...

Enjoy. On a night as cold as this, its worth the risk to just stay in. I'd open a bottle of wine if I were you to make it fancy!

I hate that she was so curt with a long time customer. Makes you wonder if things are changing there.

I hope your FREE pizza is germ/spit FREE!

We had bad service at our favorite Mexican restaurant last year and we haven't been back since. I miss the food but I'm afraid to go back since I spoke up about how unhappy I was with the service we received that last time there. We'd been going there for almost 13 years.

Likewise, I hope your pizza doesn't come with "extra-cheese" (if you know what I mean!).

Good for you for complaining! We had pizza tonight too, but we went out for it to a place which has really good NY pizza. Enjoy yours!

As long as it's not the same delivery guy you should be okay. Don't forget to tip.

We just had a similar thing happen recently, bit no freebie, bad pizza. I keep saying I am not going to order out anymore.

Brian- Best we've had in a long time!
Jules- It was 0 degrees this morning....

Momster- I don't complain much, but everything seems to be going downhill around this town..
Al- I confess to looking it over before diving in!
Jen- My wife really got after it!
Jen- I'm a generous tipper- it's good insurance!
ChefE- We have take out maybe twice a month..

Years ago, my mother sent a plate of Eggs Benedict back because there was an ash from a cigarette on it. No way did they redo the dish, they just blew the ash off and sent it back. So now there were more germs on it than before.

But that was nothing compared to the book Kitchen Confidential written by Anthony Bourdain. Frightened everyone who read it.
(I am unable to watch that TV show you mentioned)

I rarely go to fast food or takeout places because I know what's going on in the back.

Glad to hear in the comments that it was good this round. I've become so skeptical about what's done to the food, the cleanliness of places and the freshness of the food that I very rarely go out to eat anymore. I do get cheap pizza for the guys on Wednesdays, only $4.99 for large pizza's, not bad!

Well, now you've got me nervous! I hope it turned out ok!!!!

LMAO! I know what you mean.

I hope you enjoyed your pizza!

Barb- The good Lord provided us with an immune system, blessed be the Lord!
Martha- When we were little kids, we ate hand fulls of dirt- we are hardier than sometimes we think we are- but we can still be grossed out...
BlueV- Could not have been better!
Christie- All OK, thank God!

I see from the comments, the pizza joint is back on track. Good for them...good for you.

We had pizza tonight as well, which should've been free. It was late and cold, but edible.

Hope yours was tasty, too!

tattytiara said...

Oh don't say that, I know. I once had a pizza place send me out a replacement pie, and I was suspicious of it the whole time I was eating it even though there was no evidence of anything being wrong.

buffalodick said...

Jeff- I guess the usual crew was back in place!
Ily- Best I've had in a while...
T.T.- Welcome! You know what I mean!

urban vegan said...

Well, at least you got a free pizza out of it. Customer service is a dying art, sadly.

buffalodick said...

UrbanV- If I ever have a restaurant, there will be nothing that leaves the kitchen I wouldn't eat myself..

tavolini said...

oh dear...so how was the free pizza? I doubt they'd do anything bad to it, but I sure hate it when your regular restaurant screws up the food!

I have spent years working in restaurants. I must say, only the really obnoxious people were ever considered a target.
Revenge can happen on airplanes too, not just restaurants. The idea is, a legitimate gripe is always considered if not welcome, but rudeness will buy you things you just don't want. Never p!#$ off your server.
That goes both ways. The manager needs to be replaced by a happier and more competent person.
There, I've either scared all your readers or annoyed them!
