Tortilla Soup, And Home Made Hamburger Buns..

Monday, I took the left-over roast chicken, and the broth I had made from the carcass created by Sunday's meal- and went hunting for something new to do with these treats... Tortilla Soup won the contest! Many versions of this dish, but this is what I did... Home-made chix broth, tomato paste, corn, chopped onion, jalapeno chiles, chopped, red salsa, chunky style, chili powder, garlic, cumin, Mex oregano... Put in a Crock pot on low for 6 hrs... Tortilla chips and shredded cheese as a garnish- I will make this again!
I made home made hamburger buns- came out the size of a plate! Tasty, but huge.. no picture of it, but imagine a small Italian bread loaf...

That sounds really tasty. We had Lamb Hotpot on Monday made from the leftover Lamb joint we had for dinner on Sunday. One of MWM's favourites. :)

Again, I arrive hungry and leave starving. I think I have a love/hate relationship with your blog.

It would help if you started leaving samples. :)

I know I'm making several dozen burger and dog buns this weekend, although probably not a full gross. It's a lot of work, but you are right; they are awesome! Now, send over some of that taco soup, please!

G-man- I do do one without thought, and the other I have to measure!

Scarlet- Don't ever leave me! I enjoy your posts, and your comments!
Marjie-I know now to control size! Man, are they better, or what? The soup is a keeper!

Tortilla soup is absolutely one of my favorite soups. Extra cheesy for me.

Kate- I can see now how many ways this could be made, and come out great!
Donna- You would have liked the broiled buns, with Havarti cheese, mushroom, and bacon we had last night!

I love the tortilla soup--very smart!

Homemade hamburger buns--so, besides being large, how were they? Every time I make them they tend to turn out too hard. Jawbreaker burger buns, if you will ;)

The soup looks fabulous.

We're having tacos tonight - not quite as exciting, but I love Mexician.

buffalodick said...

Katherine-Buns were easy- just huge!
Lini- Soft as anything!- just big!
Mona- Never made it, but will make it again!
K- same flavors, just soupier!~

The soup sounds great and easy.

A plate sized bun? What, you going to make one of those 6lb burgers? ;)

Tanya Kristine said...

haven't seen you in a while BD....so i thought i'd catch up. might i suggest you not use the word 'carcass'?

buffalodick said...

Chris- Soup was a pleasant surprise! Burger bun could have handled a 2lb. burger, no sweat! Oops!
Tanya- Good to hear from you! You should have seen the chicken corpse before we ate it... HeeHeeHee..

You had me at tortilla soup...buns, cannot wait to see yours, yeah I meant to say that!

Nothing builds an appetite like the term "carcass" !

starbender said...

The size of a plate? WoW- imagine the burger you would need for that?
My whole family would have 2 split it, cuz I couldn't eat it by myself.

The Tortilla Soup sounds interesting, I have never even heard of it. I will have to try it one day--soon.

Have a great Holiday weekend!

Chef- Soup great, buns were as big as my own fat ass!
Hef- Tanya is a vegetarian I never miss a swipe at! LOve her dearly, though...
Star- smaller, they would have been buns, bigger they would have been loaves! Soup is a keeper!
