Untidy Joseph's- So Much Tastier Than Sloppy Joes..

Elevating a simple dish into something special isn't hard, it just requires your caring about the difference between edible and elegant! If you use ground round, instead of hamburger, if you use apple vinegar instead of white, if you use fresh onion chopped when you simmer the sauce... If you add premium Ketchup, the best Worcester sauce, celery seed, a high quality brown sugar, and simmer for an hour -instead of 10 minutes.. little, subtle differences(called details!) can take a belly filler sandwich, and change into a delicious hand held delight! Sloppy Joe's indeed! It is now an Untidy Joseph, so much further up the food chain!

the name cracks me up...I think I would prefer a less than untidy joseph so maybe mine can be on a toasted bun.....I can smell the onions - seriously!

Darn girl- you can take the word clever, change it to cleaver, and make me think of cleavage- and your photos are making all this happen!
DogB-I heard someone call them that years ago- and it stuck!

Snowniece- Love to feed your kids these- they would love them!

Those details can make your guests comment, "That was the best sandwich I've ever had!"

I love that you just constructed the recipe into prose in your post, this looks scrumptious and it's possible even my 20mo old would eat it. (He couldn't be pickier.)

Wow!!! That's why I'm always telling my boyfriend I can't cook like he can. He knows all these tricks, cultivated over years of cooking. I just follow recipes.

Definitely higher up the food chain, but luckily still below us.

Looks great.

Looks delicious. I generally add chopped green pepper and fresh spinach to my sloppy joes, which adds some nice textures AND extra iron.

I LOVE sloppy joes! And I don't know why, but I hadn't made them in freaking years, and when I made them a few weeks ago, my five year old wouldn't even taste it cause she had never seen it before. But my older kids love them, too! Your way sounds MUCH better than mine!

Ah bless details! It makes the difference between nice and excellent! Both positive but still a difference!

Jeff- If I ever do a cook book, it will be titled "Simple Things Done Well"- it is my approach to cooking!
CDB- Glad you picked up on what I wrote was embellishing a simple recipe!
Rog- Kinda like "Mountain William"= "Hillbilly"!
Steph- Glad to hear from you! My wife measures everything when cooking, I don't measure unless it's a cup or more!
K- All I did was call it pate instead of goose guts..if you know what I mean!
Jeanne- If you can make a Sloppy Joe healthy, knock yourself out! :)
Bina- Kids love 'em, once they've had them! Used to bring them to Cub Scout pot lucks- and those kids made sure none went home with me!
Anette- It's a fine line between caring and obsessive...

My mom calls these things Loose Meat sandwiches. The name of it makes me ill to begin with. Details are in a name, also.

buffalodick said...

Kate- I'm to a point where I don't let my meat loose much... I hope you like "Untidy Josephs" as a name for a good sandwich!

Speaking of can tuna- You do not know how many times I have thought about that from my childhood, but I could not remember what 'can' helper she used to make them, so thanks, I will be making these for my beef Sunday! I actually have been craving many things of my childhood, and did love a good cold croquette, or one of these joe's as I ran outside to play!

Your awesome!

Ha!...Reminds me of Dr. Evils spoof of Odd Job in Austin Powers..Random Task!

This is a family secret in regards to Sloppy Joes.
First of all I hardly ever use the exact same recipe' twice. And even if Manwich is involved, I always do indeed add this final touch..
One heaping tablespoon of yellow mustard, and one heaping tablespoon of Mayo OR Miracle whip.
Adds a strange 'tang' thats hard to identify...Have a good one Buff!

buffalodick said...

G-man- There was indeed a squirt of mustard in mine!

J.G.- Make 'em bad- very sad...Make-em right, good eats tonight! Junior High sucked in it's entirety- food, classes, teachers, etc....
