Christmas In February- Cool!

Last night, during supper- a green chicken enchilada topping, on corn chips(sprinkled with Colby shredded cheese!) the door bell rang... It was UPS, delivering my Christmas present from my son in Kansas City- finally! A new food dehydrator, with the latest technology! My old American Harvest is still working fine, but nothing lasts forever, and for a while- I'll have doubled capacity for dehydrated goodies! American Harvest was apparently absorbed by Nesco- a fine company as far as electric roasters go- as I have one.. The price was in line for the quality of the product, and look forward to trying it out soon. If you do not have one of these versatile products, I recommend you get one and start saving big bucks on jerky, dried herbs and spices, dried fruit, and veggies! The fan unit dehydrators make time less of a factor- and the preservation factor is undeniable. I know I sound like an infomercial, but I get behind a good idea when I see one!
DoggieBloggie struck a cord on his post with me on a one ingredient making a difference.. we had thinly cut pork tenderloin, in BB-Q sauce, with onion sliced finely on buns Monday night. Sliced hamburger dill chips on those sandwiches made an extraordinary difference.. small things are not to be ignored!

K- Nothing says love better than a 40 day old Christmas present... Love your children, at least until they defend themselves!

we've done the chicken enchilada on corn chips thing. It ROCKS.

What kind of meat do you use to make jerky?

Chef E said...

The nurse just told me or reconfirmed I should get one of these, so you have sold me...where did you order it?

Oh, and when I can eat heavier dishes again I will have to make enchiladas again, with corn chips!

It is indeed, the little things that make all the difference.

this looks like the pressure cooker of dehydrators - my old american harvest is still hanging in there but I do want to get more racks I only have two.... sliced dills ARE the secret ingredient in a pulled pork sandwich - you made my mouth water.

Heff- Simple can be incredible..
Doc- Alot of things, but my 1st choice is beef!
Chef- Check out Nesco, or American Harvest web sites..
Kate- These are the tricks that must be passed onto the next generation..
DogB- I had four and found that wasn't enough! McDonalds of all people showed me the way to BB-Q pork, onions, and pickles with a sandwich called a McRib...

I've never heard of a dehydrator! Still a Christmas present is better late, than never. :)

Just telling it like it is said...

It is important to find the things that we are passionate about in our lives....
Nothing wrong with being behind something that you believe in...

My mouth is watering over the pork tenderloin.

Loved the commment you left on K's blog.

Ake- You could have fun with this- even does flowers for the artistic folks out there!
Darngirl- Have been a salesman most of my life- never sold anything I couldn't defend or explain with enthusiasm!
CDB- pork tenderloin is tender, but needs good sauce... Ablog is what you make it, or want it to be- you first, then others should be the only rule!

Just telling it like it is said...

and that is why your successful...

Merry Christmas!

I've never even considered a dehydrator, but with son's new found love of all things jerky, I'm actually thinking it might be a good idea!

That dehydrator thing sounds new to me...& a delightful dream come true product too! I must check out if they make them here...

How exciting to get a new dehydrator!

I also am a fan of the details, i.e. "thinly sliced pork tenderloin" can sometimes make the difference as opposed to thick slices ;)

buffalodick said...

Darngirl- The worst thing could can do to me is give me lousy food or service in a restaurant- everyone I know hears about it!
Marmy- Just gets moisture out of food, which makes it last longer..
Dana- They pay for themselves quickly!
Mona- I could see you using it for drying spices and herbs..
Tavolini- Simple things done well is my cooking motto..

I've been thinking of getting one for years. You've just convinced me. How about tomatoes? Can you do them?

buffalodick said...

Belle- Absolutely! DoggyBloggy had a nice post on making his own dried and oil preserved tomatoes..

OK BD...my birthday is the 20th of this month...so start dehydrating over there! :D

I used to have one a long time ago...think we got rid of it because we needed some space in kitchen. But this new one of yours looks small?! How big is it?! LOL

Jeanne Estridge said...

I had a food dehydrator a few years ago, when I had a big garden. I LOVED it!

Jen said...

yay! It's always nice to receive presents in the mail. Show us what you make with it, yes?

Rosemary Q said...

Fascinated by the dehydrator. Don't think I'll ever get one, but I like seeing the way you use yours. As for the McRib comment you made a few comments up. Ewwww...:) I am positive that even a little kid could make a better sandwich then that. Those things were gross looking and tasting. Your food on the other hand always looks delicious.

buffalodick said...

Lulda- Same capacity as my original, just streamlined and packaged a little better..
Jeanne- I primarily do jerky in them, but great for other foods also!
Jen- I plan to!
Romi- I loved that sandwich(compared to their other crap)! Only would see it around here about one month out of a year...

I love kitchen toys. One of my sons got me a food bag sealer thingy, whatever that may be called, and I'm accused of having way too much fun resealing everything after it's opened!

buffalodick said...

Marmy- Check out Amazon- pretty good prices..
Marjie- I have one of those too! That's how I package and store my jerky!
