Mini-Meme...This Last Year, This Year To Come..

2008 was not the year I expected, but in retrospect- when was a year what you expected? I thought this to be a perfect time for me and all of you that visit, to reflect on our past year, but also discuss what you think the next year will hold for you... I wish I had a crystal ball- but I don't!
Questions for today- 1. The events worth remembering in your life about 2008
2. Your plans or hopes for 2009.
Here we go... 1. I lost a significant portion of my retirement funds, due to the downturn in stocks. My house went down in value, about the same percentage.. I still retired out of the metals business, because after 35+ years in it, I was burned out. I feel it was the right decision, even though it looked pretty stupid at the time.
2. I'd love to tell you this year looks bright for all, but I think the world will be a long time getting back to where it was. Personally, I hope to find a small niche business, either to start or buy, where I can enjoy my work once again..
I've focused on the smaller delights of life lately, and found a lot of stuff I either forgot, or overlooked... If you have food, shelter, clothing, and people who care about you- everything else tends to be something you want, but not necessarily need!
I wish you all a bright 2009- Happy New Year!
P.S. Tonight, my new deep fryer Christmas present will be broken in!(photos later!) Then I have to take a white chocolate cheesecake to a party, and play cards with friends.. Drive safely, everyone!

1. The most momentus thing that happened in 2008 was that My son was a victim of knife crime but thankfully got off with a broken foot and injured knee.

2. I hope and pray that the madness which seems to have inflicted the world, which seems to make violence acceptable will end.

Happy New Year to you Buff and may 2009 be everything you're hoping for. x

Ake- I am so glad, even now that your son was so fortunate to come out of that encounter alive. Life isn't fair, but perspective still manages to give us something to be grateful for.. With less to go around, I don't think desparate acts will lessen... violence, like pollution has to be controlled, as it will never be elliminated... Doesn't sound too promising, but hope springs eternal! Best wishes for 2009!

Marmy- You are the walking, talking, blobbin' best and kindest person out there! I know what kind of year you had, and you glossed it over, because that is what you do. I can wish you the very best New Year you will ever have, and that is exactly what I'm going to do! The one and only Great Buffalo Blessing goes to Marmite Toasty this year!(You will not not know where to hide all the good things that will soon happen to you!)

Most momentous of 2008 -- it's a tossup between losing my highly lucrative but intensely disliked job and finding the blogosphere, all peopled by nice folks like you.(Yes, I know it was out there all along, but so was America and it still took centuries for Europe to find it.)

Most awaited of 2009 -- You know, I've gotten to the point where if I can just make it another year in good health, bringing in enough money to cover the bills and none of the kids in jail, I'm satisfied!

Jeanne- Sounds like you did the job change too! Sounds like you and me are gonna get along famously! Happy New Year to that!

1. Travel is what is most memorable for me. Meeting a bunch of new bloggers in Philly and Orlando, and taking a cruise with my entire family. Great memories.

2. I'm hoping that in 2009 the world will open up further for me. That I will meet and possibly exceed my potential.

Happy New Year!

Finn- You will never stop seeking... a great indication of intelligence! Hope you find what you seek, dear one!
Marmite- I smarter than I act or look- hell, I'd have to be! Decent folk like you get their day in the sunshine, just have the sun glasses ready!
Doc- Keep seeing things through the glasses you're wearin'...!
Beth- Imagine a large wet kiss right smack on your forehead, and a pair of the darkest brown eyes smiling in the warmest way right at you.. Happy New Year!
Heff- The pictures will raise your chances of heart attack.. but what a way to go!

1)I hated 2008 and I don't hate anything this is the first time I hated a year before lol.

2)Just crossing my fingers that economy will bounce back sometime.

Happy New Year to you and yours, all the best in '09!

Rog- I hate to admit it, but I wasn't that thrilled with how my year turned out either... I think we'll both do better in 2009- it wouldn't take much!

Buff- glad you liked the joke...and...

HAPPY NEW YEAR!

Glad your family survived another year...and the fryer well, I want one, but after working in professional kitchens and being a grill chef (and had to fry calamari and chicken) and coming home at night smelling like I was covered in grease...well I will gladly let you take the torch...

Just telling it like it is said...

Life sometimes has a funny way of letting you know what is important. I know that you will find something that you love to do because you believe it...anything is possible if you believe it...well I am living proof..as always nice to read blimps of your life...and I can't wait for pics...I live vicariously though your food pictures...Cheers and Happy New Year
