Day Off Tuesday, Later In Evening Birthday Dinner For Son!

Late Monday, I decided to take Tuesday off and try and de-stress. As my wife isn't working right now, she was all for it! Breakfast at home, left house at 8am for a day trip to a casino by Manistee, Mi. We didn't lose too much, and enjoyed the 2hrs up and 2hrs back to talk about stuff. It was my sons birthday, and as our tradition dictates, he got to pick out any restaurant we would dine at. He wanted to go to Grand Rapids Brewing Co., as usual! They are a micro brewery with a pretty good restaurant that stays busy. The reason he likes the place is that they are the only one in town that serves a hanger steak. It is a long skinny steak, almost as tender as a tenderloin, but with a much better taste(like sirloin). Hot cheese pretzels, hot bread, both served with speads that are great! A bowl of porter beef onion soup, and he was all set! My wife got the beer battered perch, which is fantastic, while sons girlfriend went after the penne in vodka sauce. I ordered southwest egg rolls off the appetizer menu-wasn't that hungry! Our waitress should give lessons on how to do that job- she was the best! Long day, good time.....
Oh yeah, no pictures as I had forgotten my camera! I have to start taking it with me!

My husband and I have been to the Grand Rapids Brewing Company, and we thought it was great! Hope your son has a Happy Birthday. I knew it was soon, because my birthday was Friday, but I actually looked at your post from last year to find out the date.

Did you try the radio thing again?

mel- Welcome to my humble blog!Glad you liked the kitchen pictures-it shows I can take a decent photo!
Beth- It's a comfy place, and they make decent beer, too!
Jen- Thanks! It really was!
Finn- Those stupid cheese filled hot pretzels with the jalepeno cheese spread are just as good as they sound!
lynda- the birth date of No. 2 son was 8-28-80, weighed 8lbs-8 oz, at 8AM-ish. Next year he will be 28 on 8-28-08! No radio announcement- the station is getting most money from businesses these days...

Steph- Every once in a blue moon, things work out smoothly...
Har- Week nights are best for that, you don't have to fight the crowd...
Snow- I even planned to take it, but forgot!
DogB- He's 27 now, oldest will be 30 in Nov. I had the S.W.egg rolls!
Nancy- There was a time when I was never home-guess I'm making up for that!
Michelle- He raved on the soup, and we all wiped out the pretzels!
Queenie- Thanks! I think as we get older, these events are more meaningful...

I love eating at microbreweries, particularly if they have cider on tap. There's nothing like a nice pint of cider and a juicy steak. Or french fries. Or both.

Isn't it nice to take a day off to get your perspective back? Nice tradition to let your son choose his b'day meal/resto.

having an appetizer is not really eating its simply participating.
