Anniversary Dinner- Old Friends' Are Better Than Old Food...

My wife had to attend a baby shower that afternoon (The daughter of the friends we were going out with), and my buddy had to work, so he picked me up on the way to dinner. Their daughter-in-law was throwing the party, and lives even closer to the restaurant-so we picked up spouses there. Since the day we met, their daughter in law and I have been buddies, and it was good to see her! This is an extended family I've known most of my life that has probably seen more grief than anyone I know, yet maintain a good attitude towards life! Another old friends' wife had to attend the shower, so we invited them to join us for dinner.
The restaurant is the Clifford Lake Inn, on the shores of (all together now!) Clifford Lake. Old, comfortable place with a nice deck you can dine on-except a thunderstorm was going on! The menu was so predictable, I probably didn't have to open it. A good selection, but food service food out of a freezer or a bag. My grouper was overbattered and tasteless, wife had walleye that was OK, buddy Dan(always orders prime rib) had a good one. Other three had some kind of fish, again batttered and out of a freezer bag. I'd go back for the view, but not the food!
The friends, and the old memories we talked about were the gems of the evening- as well they should be....
Today, I'm looking forward to roasting a capon, stuffed with mushrooms and rice, draped with bacon. The drippings will go well on the fresh (not the free stuff!) asparagus!

Buffalodicky> You guys seem to stick around with old friends a lot. I hope that some day we will be doing the same :). Nothing like faithful loyal friends.

Michigan has a lot of good people. My father studied at the university there & had lot of tales about the place for us as well as slide shows!

Mona- M go Blue! My eldest graduated from the U of M a few years back- and I sure am glad he did! I have been in outside sales for 30yrs regionally. I have a wide base of friends and aquaintances, but as you get older, you do tend to spend the limited time you have left on Earth with people that have been lifetime friends. Friday night we sat with old and new, young friends-closer to my sons' ages! We had a great time! Always good to find someone that hasn't heard all my old jokes and stories!

Happy Anniversary Dinner!!!

Sound like you had a good time. That is a very good thing because the other 364 days of the year the wife is running the show (as I am finding out)

Mikeman- We've been married so long, 99% gets done by debate/compromise. I'm fond of telling people; "I used to get mad, but life beat it out of me...."

Hi Uncle Buff,

Granted, I appreciate any food that is cooked for me, but I always feel like those are the kind of places to go for some drinks and dessert. I have to stay in agreement with your subject--Old Friends ARE better!

SnowNiece-Better? I don't know. Comfortable is the word I use. Like an old but clean sweatshirt-warm, pleasant, comfortable.. and has seen better days!
Jen- The bacon thing is because I'm lazy. It self-bastes the bird, and adds a nice flavor touch..
Pink- A bad meal always inspires me to go home and cook a better one! Made a killer chicken noodle soup with the left overs!
Mona- Don't encourage me! I know in my old age I'll be the guy in the corner they warn you about! "Don't get him started on a subject, he'll talk your ear off!!!!"
