Sunday, 1 P.M. And Nobody To Cook For- Sort Of..

My wife has to go to a baby shower(Thank God men never got this one going!)my son is working, and I'm here with my just trimmed Airedale, Clara, my Calico cat, Willow(who just doesn't care), and my blog....
I did decide to charcoal grill some marinated boneless, skinless, chicken breasts- Primus, to feed my son who works about 5 minutes from my house, and Secondus to make a batch of chicken salad for sandwiches this week.. The marinate was basic; olive oil, red wine vinegar, a touch of tomato juice, basil, oregano, garlic, pepper, and salt. Charcoaled to just done, they were tender and full of flavor- and this is not my favorite cut of chicken! I had a bologna and cheese sandwich- really! It just sounded kind of good, and no one was watching...
My son got one large chix breast, some egg noodles Alfredo(with a bit of ham in it!)and fresh (steamed lightly) green beans.. He was a happy guy- it had all the things he cares about: It was hot, tasty, on time, and free! Later, I may make some dried cranberry/choco chip oatmeal cookies- If not today, tomorrow...
Enjoy your up-coming week!

Bologna and cheese? Really? I feel like I just learned that Jackie Kennedy used to wear sweats around the house when no one was coming over.

Jeanne- Dear one, I actually like stuff like this... I know I don't cook like it, but am I an honest guy, or what? I find way more satisfaction in feeding people than I do eating... I am odd, by most accounts!

I wished we lived closer together. I'd be over every single night.

VodkaMom- We would be in trouble so fast and so often, we'd be a column in the newspaper! Hope to see you soon!

Love your dog. you cant go wrong with chicken, ever.

I'd be in Heaven if I got to eat your cooking whenever I wanted to.

Lucky son! Sounds like a wonderful dinner. Your doggie is cute! Is he a type of schnauzer? We have a shit-zu named Clooney, after one of my guys george.

Sounds like a lovely weekend.

Denise- I kept some sliced for a sandwich, the rest is now chicken salad!
G-man- Thanks! My pantry and fridge are pretty well stocked up right now, too!
Donna- Dog is an Airedale Terrier- the largest of the terriers(80lbs.) probably the goofiest, too!
Mona- The green beans in the stores now are home-grown, fresh, and cheap!
K- Wife late Fri nite(hair appt.), Saturday gone all afternoon, and Sunday, she went to the baby shower... Next week-end we go up North for a quick trip!

Charcoal grilled chicken, be still my heart! Those chicken salads are certainly something to look forward to this week!

Yum. Why did I read this before breakfast? I want that chicken.

buffalodick said...

Katherine- I throw them on a hot charcoal grill, still dripping the marinade...The liquid banks the coals a bit, makes the charcoal "smoke" a little more, and adds a slight crust that is full of flavor!
Gnightgirl- I snacked on a slice this morning at 8AM!

More importantly what did you drink with it!?

buffalodick said...

Mr.C- I tend to cook for others, I'm in it for the kudos, not the dining experience... What beverage would you have picked?

Angel said...

I swear Buff, in my next life, I'm coming back as your SON! That boy EATS GOOD!!!!!

and bologna and cheese is the BOMB!!

Mr. Condescending said...

A nice gin and tonic.

The food does look great though, I'm hungry now.

buffalodick said...

Beth- I wish I could cook a meal for you and Bina when you get together- but I think you two will have drinks and popcorn, and laugh with your mouths filled, spraying the room....

buffalodick said...

mr.C- Gin is funny... the more you pay for it, the better it tastes! Switch to generic vodka- it all gets you to the Magic Kingdom!

I got stuck on Clara! What a beautiful dog!

buffalodick said...

Dana- We have had three female Airedales, one after the other... All great dogs, but this one is the best! Great guard dogs, friendly, goofy, and willful... If you like dogs with personality, this breed is great! If you want a dog that kisses your butt, avoid this animal!

You're son's a lucky guy and Clara looks lovely! :)

My nice nannie was called Clara :) actually I think she has whiskers like your dogs hairy chin lol

I love chicken breast best of all.... we hardly ever buy a whole chicken anymore, we dont do BONES lol

it all looks scrummous as usual....

I LOVE your dog :)

Ake- My son and I have gotten closer, as he is now an adult(sort of! The dog is my buddy- she eats everything I do, plus her dog food!
Marmy- I prefer bones in the chicken(fat and skin too!) They keep the bird more moist and tender... Clara would love you too...

As I find myself alone once again for a week, I have no desire to cook or go to the store, but since you mentioned bologna...I might have to have a fried sandwich, and some other food that hubby cares not for, but I also might not want anyone to see me eating, lol, hmmm maybe I just will!

...hey thanks for that blueberry info...you sold metal huh? I am fascinated by machines like that, and how they manage not to crush the fruit when removed and pass through...

buffalodick said...

Chef- The machine was a tall, narrow design, with the bottom of the cab clearing the blueberry bush, and the tires going between the rows of bushes.. It would brush, or shake the bushes, sending the fruit onto a chute that took them to a storage bin.. Look up B.E.I. South Haven, MI- I'm sure they have a website...

Maddy said...

Now that is a beautiful dog, and the foods not bad either! You're almost as productive as I am. Curry around here.......what else would we eat when it's 94 degrees in the shade.
Cheers

buffalodick said...

Maddy- I really hate curry.. I used to hate it when it was Indian, now I hate it because it's British-kind of! You, on the other hand, I like!

Hit 40 said...

Your doggy wants some too!! Great looking pooch.

I will have to try the marinade. Sounds quick and easy.

Chris said...

Nice dish for a bachelor, lol.

I haven't done skinless boneless breasts much in years, but yours makes me want to revisit that. I clicked and enlarged the middle shot and was ready to eat!

Nicely done, BD.

Jen said...

"Hot, tasty, on time, and free!" I like those things too. Could your son be my long lost twin?

buffalodick said...

Hit40- I have described her ability to take up space as like tripping over a sawhorse 6 times a day...and don't worry- she gets people food a lot! Marinades really help lean meats and poultry gain tenderness and flavor...
Chris- I'd rather leave fat and skin on, for flavor and self basting ability, but these were $2.00lb. and could be used in other dishes...
Jen- Twin? I knew something was missing when we came home from the hospital with just him... :)

endless possibilities with those chicken tits....

I hate baby showers...and all showers, in fact. It's like slow torture, watching all those gifts being opened and saying "awwww" and "ooohhhh." I have to go to one in 2 weeks.

buffalodick said...

DogB- I agree, but I still prefer dark meat- thighs with bone and skin on my favorite!
UrbanV- You nailed it, kiddo... I like happy women, but I have never seen one happy, going to a baby shower!

Unknown said...

Yeah, you guys were smart to never start that shower trend. I hate them...they are boring as hell!

buffalodick said...

Angela- Mon Cheri, women love baby showers! Guys are clueless on this one...Men are from Mars, women are from another galaxy! Todd Rungren said it best in his song, "We Got To Get You A Woman"..

I'm hungy! Beautiful pictures.
