Handy Food Product Of The Day!

We are, like most Americans these days, eating and enjoying Mexican and Tex-Mex food a lot more than ever! The products available for making versions of this cuisine have never been more plentiful, with quality being higher in freshness, and more convenience!
When it comes to tacos, my wife prefers the hard corn shell, where I like the soft flour based tortilla more than she does... One product we discovered at our local grocery store is one we both agree was an excellent idea- the stand-up Taco Shell from Old El Paso brand!
When you get tacos from a chain restaurant to remain nameless, you need about 4 or 5 of them to get enough to satisfy your hunger- sometimes even more than that! These shells from Old El Paso were designed to hold substantially more ingredients and toppings- 2 apiece is plenty for us! They are easier to eat.. you can enjoy them without ending up looking like you were in a Mexican cantina food fight... You also can produce them at a higher quality than a fast food restaurant for less than a buck a piece (and remember, they are twice as big!).
This is my 399th post... my next will of course be 400! I plan to include smoked BB-Q, and possibly fireworks- as I will post Sunday morning about the great Independence Day we plan to enjoy! I hope all you Americans have a great 4th of July this year!

That's just great. My mouth is full of novocaine and now I'm drooling about tacos. Hrmph.

Bina- These shells are slick! Try them, and tell me what you think!
Kate- I'm glad dentists use that stuff, but the 2+ hrs of drooling, and accidentally biting tongue and cheek afterward sucks....

Happy 4th to you too.. 400 posts next time, kudos to you!

We're having tacos tonight, but I just bought the regular old shells. Maybe I'll give these a try next time.

Congrats on 400 posts - amazing.

Donna- Posting 2-3 times a week gets you there in about three years, two months!
K- The price isn't terribly different, but you will use less of them...

I haven't tried those shells yet, I'm usually too lazy to make tacos at home. But it might be a nice change from the pizza, burgers and dogs we live on during the summer. I might have to try it for my next pool party - if I make the meat ahead of time.

Can't wait for 400 - I love me some smokey BBQ!

Congratulations on your 400th, that is a great accomplishment.

wow 400 coming up huh? nice! I have never tried the pre-made shells - the taco 'kits' actually crack me up a little....is that a pun?

buffalodick said...

Hoodchick- First major BB-Q of the summer! $ whole 4-1/2lb. chickens, and two racks of baby back pork ribs... If I remember the camera- fireworks at night, too!
Denise- It just kind of snuck up on me....
DogB- The kits are a rip, but generally this brand has decent shells, with good flavor, and is usually pretty fresh and crunchy....

Fireworks!!! Outstanding. I like the stand up shells. I'll have to grab some for the weekend.

buffalodick said...

Hit40- We use a lot of mortars, and cakes... The ones that get up there a ways are safer than the little stuff!

I've seen the adds on TV for those stand up shells, but haven't yet given them a try. Guess they are as good as they claim.

I love El Paso brand food. Congratulations on 399 posts. That's alot of meals...

buffalodick said...

Jeff- When you first try them, what you say to yourself is "Why didn't somebody think of this before now?"
KB- I didn't start out with food, nor did I do photos... As I learned where I might "fit in", my blog started featuring more food!

I'm like you, I prefer the flour soft tortillas but the kids like the crunchy hard corn taco shells so we do both.

And man have we been eating some tacos lately!

We'll have to try these out.

buffalodick said...

Ake- The soft ones make all kinds of wraps- don't even have to be Mexican in flavor!
Marmy- Thanks! I guess your History books left out how we brought you all that equipment that helped save your bacon from the Nazis.... :)
Pink- Me too! Hard corn tortilla chips are unbeatable for Nachos!
Chris- Good summer food.. for us, about once a week!

I love Mexican food! Its so much like Indian food!

i love tacos. crunchy too; not soft. not that soft is bad..we'll work through it.

buffalodick said...

Mona- Your stay in California probably included a lot of Mexican food!
Tanya- I can imagine you drinking, laughing, and spraying me with crunchy bits of hard taco shells as we eat.... Have a good 4th, dear!

"Old El-Assho". NOT my favorite, lol !!

JihadGene said...

Thanks for the head's up on the shells!

buffalodick said...

Heff- They don't taste bad, but are a little flavorless... the shape and crunch are what we're OK with...
Gene- Pretty handy, and neat while you eat!

400! Damn, friend!

I went to the NICE grocery store today to get chipotles in adobo sauce, and they didn't have it! Helllloooo... over 15% of our nation's population is Hispanic... get with it, Safeway!

buffalodick said...

LiLu- Fairly common product around here.. I like chipotle flavor, I will reconstitute dried ones sometimes.. adobo sauce you can make from normal spices in your pantry.... Still, just opening a can is waaay easier!

I've got to check out that brand! I like humongous, big-ass tacos myself. And wow...400th post? Way to go, man!

starbender said...

Ha! I'm making taco's as I speak. Only I just have soft & little taco shells, I didn't even see the big ones, I will have to look around.
Happy 4th. of July! Be safe!

buffalodick said...

Burbandslurp- These aren't bigger, they just hold more of the good fillings you like!
StarB- I love the smaller soft flour tortillas for wraps instead of a sandwich! Happy 4th!

Maddy said...

I think I'll stick to Guacamole myself. Looking forward to the big 400!
Cheers

Maddy- You are here now.. start embracing America! Walking around confused and clueless is no way to go through life in the greatest country in the world! Ditch the Avacato goo, and get some real food! California is not the Heartland of America, if you catch my drift...

Love me some tacos...fry the corn tortillas like mom used to...congrats on the 400...
