Sunday Dinner, As I Hinted At..

We were not looking for a meat-filled dish this day.... Upset tummies around here decided a pasta-veggie dish sounded better, along with some comforting home-made white bread.. Made two loaves of a white bread recipe that sounded somewhere in between "too sweet, but not bland".. Nailed it! I don't like stupid crusty bread, I like to be able to eat the bread(crust and all!) without cutting the roof of my mouth.. This was a dense, yet tasty bread- that only needed real butter to be a winner!
I had some Linguine noodles, and made an Alfredo sauce from scratch( butter, flour, milk, Italian seasoning, black pepper, salt, garlic, with grated Parmesan cheese!) added sauteed, sliced fresh mushrooms to the sauce- went over the pasta when all still hot... Rich and delicious! Linguine noodles are long and sticky- breaking them in half before simmering is a good idea!
Tonight, our Anniversary dinner is at home, with Shrimp Tempura, and french fries, with a bit of left over cheesecake... simple things done well... the older you get, the more this makes sense! Everyone, live your lives- and find some joy to appreciate!

Okay, what are the chances that you will share that bread recipe? I love home baked bread, too, but I also do not like a cut mouth.

And man, I have GOT to learn how to make my own alfredo sauce. I love it WAY better than I like spaghetti sauce.

Bina- the trick to not making bread "crusty" would lie in a well buttered/oiled pan, and in coating the surface during baking with more oil or butter..even after baking more lube can soften the crust.. Alfredo is just how I wrote it- a white sauce, with added Parmesan!

I have been getting the garden in order - not enough time for homecooking. I look forward to crusty bread this summer!!! Yummy.

Just telling it like it is said...

DogB- This stuff was a treat, with just plain butter.. The tempura shrimp and fries were at a level not seen in restaurants!

Happy Anniversary to you and Mrs. Buff :)

We wouldn't do well eating bread together, because the crust is my FAVORITE part!

DogB- To be honest, a cold sandwich-yes! I tried a piece of it toasted with a pattie melt- too soft...
Snowniece- Thanks! I got her favorite candy- locally made Turtles(caramel, pecans, and chocolate)by Sweetlands, and fixed her favorite- battered shrimp!
Donna- Key is the ice water! Best shrimp I ever made!
Darngirl- I think a bakery would be a great store to open!
Star- It was as good as I hoped it would be..
VMom- I make a great salad, feed it to a herbivore, kill the animal, and eat it! Just kidding....
G-man- Me too, but an overdone crust is a sore point with me...
Tavolini- If you are ever my guest, I will not feed you crusts like you are some kind of prisoner... :)
Casdok- Thank-you! I hope someday someone fixes you the meal you love..

Happy Anniversary!

My mom used to make the most perfect homemade bread ever. I'd eat it like cake.

The linguine sounds great.

Happy Anniversary! How many years?

There's nothing like a nice soft crusted white bread for my money.

I know just what you mean about something to settle the tum-tum. And this would definitely do the trick. Delish!

there is nothing better than simple I agree...

The crust is my favourite bit of the bread Buff.
Oh for some of that Shrimp Tempura...

buffalodick said...

Gene- Home made bread lasts about one day!
LiLo- Fried food usually doesn't help, but the Tempura came out so light and crispy, it did no harm!
Mona- I would rather have simple done well, than fancy done badly...
Belle- I did nail the batter for the shrimp- photos in next post!

In reference to your last line, I appreciate the joy your recipes give me! OMG! I'd sleep in the kitchen if I lived in your house!

Btw, I love that balance in the bread...like with beer bread (where it's kind of soft and a little sweet but not overly). You slap some butter on it and it's awesome!

Linguini...you have me craving it with the white sauce!

Akelamalu said...

YOu can't beat homemade bread with lashings of real butter. Unfortunately I could never eat just one piece, it would have to be the whole loaf! :(

buffalodick said...

Scarlet- There is nothing I make that can not be done easily! Alfredo style is a part of our sauce "rotation"!
Ake- Last bit of it will be French toast- tonight!

Happy Anniversary!

I made and baked bread for a living several years ago. It was a huge amount of fun. Had it not have been for the crappy pay, I'd still be doing it.

Oh god, I am going to have to stop reading your blog...I am on a diet and for some reason I really want to eat a whole loaf of bread!

Happy Anniversary to you and Mrs. Buff!!! and the pasta looks yummy.

I made something almost like that last night but mine had shrimp in it...yum.

buffalodick said...

Jeff- Thanks! Trying to be a better baker is harder than cooking!
Angela- Well, if you can't get good bread in Paris, I don't know where you will!
Beth- I'll be posting my shrimp dinner shortly..
