Mini-Meme Time! The Two Question Format..

I haven't done one of these lately, and it is a bit serious in content....
!. What was the closest you have been to death or serious harm?
2. What was the closest thing to a miracle you have seen?
Me first, as usual... I almost died once, in Blue Earth, Minnesota... we were coming back from a less than successful hunt in Wyoming, when at 2AM we hit a log laying length wise in the Interstate. We clobbered it, went into a ditch and thought we were toast.. Stayed upright, got truck hauled and fixed, and were on our way..Another time in 2000, I was very sick. They put me in a drug induced coma for a week to heal..the next few days were pretty weird as I didn't know whether I was on foot or horseback.. Physical rehab, and I was good as almost new. The same thing was my miracle, as I had said goodbye to my family before they knocked me out...Nobody thought I was going to make it- but my heart, conditioned through being very active all my previous life was the factor..
We all have a story in us, let's hear yours... I feel better disclosing this right now..

1. In my twenties I, for some reason I still don't understand, felt the need to jump over a picket fence and onto a gravel pathway on the other side. The fence was only about three feet tall so clearing it was easy. The problem came when I landed on the gravel. My feet gave way on the slippery landing and I fell backwards running a picket up my neck. I missed my spine by about an inch. Hard to say it it would have done me in, but I'm sure it wouldn't have been pretty.

2. Being in the delivery room for the birth of my two sons. Seeing them enter this world was truly a miracle in my eyes. I'd say these were easily the most emotional moments of my life too.

Wow, what an interesting meme!!

My near death isn't very interesting. I've been in a couple bad car accidents--one blew out the windshield and the rear window...but somehow I was able to walk away from it.

As for miracles, I see a lot of these. I have many students who have overcome amazing obstacles and still graduate. It just makes you so proud of them.

1. Kidney abscess. The ER doc told me I had just strained my back, and sent me home; 2 days later I returned with a 105 fever and it took 8 days to get me "out of the woods".
2. Driving home on a rainy night in my Corvette. I didn't like the looks of the truck ahead, so slowed way down. He climbed the jersey wall in the center of the road and sprayed concrete chunks everywhere. A bouncing one took out my oil pan, but I came out unscathed. The miracle is that I sensed I ought to back off from that hosehead; it probably saved my life. Other than that, i count eery day of life as a miracle.

Jeff- Sometimes we don't even know it as defining, but with thought- it becomes clear....
Tavolini- Ypou don't think your moments close to deathe, was worth more than some students making into a career...You and i are kindred spirits, for sure!
Margie- Nicely said, nicely done!

I've never been close to death, thank goodness. I've actually witnessed three miracles in my life - my two boys' and my eldest grandson's birth. :)

1. When I gave birth to my twins, natural birth , NOT c section, my second took one hour(55 minutes actually) to come out after her brother, I lost so much fluid, I passed out, needed transfusions to bring me back..
2.Miracle was seeing those some preemie twins when I awoke.. although they were in the NICU with blindfolds and a million tubes coming out of their teensy bodies. Now of course, at age 11, they are almost as tall as me:)

When I was younger, I own'd a convertible, I was young & stupid, did some crazy 'whip-it' at the top of a hill, drove all the way down the hill-turned right instead of left, started climbing the woods. Flip'd the car onto the passenger tires & played Mario Andretti--Everyone watching thought it was very cool, but I was swearing off of everything that day.

My miracle--Seeing & holding my 3 babies... gifts from God!!!

I've never personally had a near death experience, so I'm so very fortunate.

My son has had two of them though, and both were miracles he didn't die. He was in a 4 wheeler accident during the winter. He was the passenger and the driver was going WAY to fast. They were both 13. They went around a curve, slid in the gravel, went about 10 feet over the edge into a pond. The 4 wheeler was stuck on my sons head but the other kid was able to lift it.

Second time? At 15 he was the passenger in a car, driven by a 17 year old female idiot/moron, going 49 in a 15 MPH zone. Went around a curve, hit a tree, car caught on fire. My son had his seat belt on in the back seat but his face his the seat in front of him. He was life flighted to vanderbilt. His face is scared, and he is missing a tooth now, but he survived.

Ake- The miracle of birth explains the calamities of life better than anything I could describe...
Donna- i was a preemie before it was cool... spent 1 month in an incubater..I wasn't born, I was hatched!
Starb- I think you know what hitting a log in the middle of the night felt like! The children are a miracle, for sure!
Bina- More scary to have it to one you love than yourself- glad all is well...

I have had several near misses in my car - seen a lot of accidents. I guess a better word - I avoided a lot of accidents.

The best was a passenger truck and a semi that decided to both switch lanes at the same time!! I saw it coming due to both vehicles drifting toward the land without turn signals - I knew they wanted to switch. They bounced all over like pinballs. Not good.

Close to death?? How about wanted death? Nonstop vertigo for a week! The room spinning nonstop if you moved in any way. And... I have others, but I would feel like I was bragging.

I cant recollect any near death experiences - I have been shot at, held at knife point, wrecked cars but all that didnt seem like near death - the miracle was being the first person to hold my son - in fact I pulled him out and I cut the cord...

Sitting in my closet with a bottle and knife and a phone. Not sure to this day why I picked the phone, because the drinking was going to end one way or the other. And the getting sober part when I didn't even want to live? That's the miracle.

I came close to death when the car in which we were traveling on a highway skidded and went over a cliff. Then it hit the top of a tree which bent almost to the ground with the car's weight. The car began to slid further down, but got caught somewhere from below into the bent bark, and we hung there for quite some while in a downpour too, till we were rescued.

Another brush with death for a woman is when she is giving birth. But later, holding the baby is a miracle. You feel almost god like when you create a life...Life which is the only seen and proven miracle...

I am the same as Doggy, lots of things happened, but next week I turn 48, and am two years closer to fifty, so does that count :)

I came close to death chasing the love of my life in Korea. I rode on the back bumper (outside) of a Pusan City Bus over pot-holes the size of bomb craters, at speeds in excess of 100MPH!...more like 40 MPH, really...in order to get back to base before midnight curfew and I fell off. Ouch!

The miracle is...I was sober when I did this and she later married me. Wooo-Whooo! Love makes one do some strange things.

When I was in college, I worked at a steak house and we were robbed at closing. I was the cashier and had a gun pointed at me...thankfully nothing happened.

My miracle, well I have two - my girls...I wasn't supposed to be able to have children. After 2 miscarriages I was lucky to have two beautiful girls.

1. What was the closest you have been to death or serious harm?

I wrote about this in my blog once upon a time, but when I was 15 my brother accidentally hit me in the head with a golf club. It shattered my skull and a piece of the bone cut the main artery that carried the blood flow to my brain. I passed out and started having convulsions and had to have emergency surgery. The didn't think I was going to live, and they also didn't think I would be able to talk or write because where I got hit was the area of the brain that controlled language and communication. I woke up bruised, swollen, and with my head half-shaved, but I was totally my old self (brain wise ;) ) The ironic coincidence was that there just happened to be a brain specialist that was flown in on another case at the hospital that ended up doing my surgery too. I was a very, very lucky girl.

2. What was the closest thing to a miracle you have seen?
I'm going to have to think about this and get back to you. My head thing is def one, but I want to have a good answer. :)

Just telling it like it is said...

The best think that I have ever done is be apart of saving a baby's life, baby was in respiratory distress...the nurses came running we were all trying to get the IV she was almost blue and we started CPR. I happened to get the IV and we pushed life saving drugs into her. Both a blessing and a curse I keep all of thoughts stories in my heart and for the most part deal well, but I have my days. P. S. I never know if they make it or not but I am pretty sure she made it just fine...Her mother thanked me and I felt higher than a kite...

The closes I have been to death was living through a broken heart. I wasn't really dying dead, but my heart felt so broken I thought I would never love again...Slowly it heals but this last year has been one of the hardest I have ever had...I quit nursing due to matters of the heart...I just couldn't save everyone.

I know this doesn't even come close to what you have been though but you asked...

I almost drowned when I was about 10. I was in a boat that tipped over in the river and I got caught under it when my life jacket floated up and I almost didn't get out.

Yours is a heck of a story.

It's a small, every day miracle, but the birth of my son was the most amazing thing I had experienced.

1) 5.13.90 it was my mom's 50th birthday and mother's day on the same day. I went for "dawn patrol" (sunrise surf session) with a buddy. The surf was only 2-3 feet and I kicked out the board as a wave ended. In a freak accident, it got caught in the white water and the rail of the surfboard hit me in the left side of the head. Hurt like hell, but stayed conscious. I knew I was cut and asked my buddy how bad. He said it was deep. I wanted to stay out and catch a few more waves but he went in to shore so I followed. Minutes later I went into seizures and had to have emergency brain surgery due to a depressed skull fracture. Had he not done that, I would have drowned out in the water.

2. See above.

Are you okay??

1. After my second divorce I was very sad. My doctor prescribed medication to help, but I had an adverse reaction to it, and instead of making things better, they got worse.
2. Through that experience I came to know Christ.

Where do you find these strange memes?

I can answer both questions in one. As far as I know, I've never been close to death or serious harm. I take that as my miracle.

Was surfing off the coast of cornwall in me early 20s the day after a very bad night storm, the seas were wild.... I paddled out, but lost grip of the surfboard, the current dragged me up and under up and under, me tosser Xs family were on the cliffs waving at me thinking my frantic waves were waves of HELLO .... then a bloke on the shore realised they was waves of a drowning woman LOL..... I went under for what I thought was the last time, I could not stay afloat no more, I had swallowed 2 much water.... it was the strangest feeling ever and I just slipped under, wasnt even scared.... to dam knackered lol....... as I went under for what I thought was the last time, someone grabbed me by my long hair and pulled me to the surface.... it was the bloke that had seen me waving from the beach... it was a private secluded cove, only accessible via a cliff walk.... he had paddled out on a surfboard and he both clung to in the choppy sea and it was to dangerous with the rocks to try and get back to shore so we kicked out to sea where the and into the rip current, where someone had alerted the coastguard and we was dragged aboard the rescue boat... the tosser Xs family have photos taken from the cliff of me drowning LOL they just thought I was waving...

on the same holiday in cornwall I actually fell 75 foot down the side of the cliff and knocked meself out and was only spotted by a beachcomber LOL.... spent the night in the hospital at Barnstaple....

Got knocked out in the new forest for 2 hours in the middle of the night on a survival camp and little known to me caused a massive resue hunt.... spend 3 days in Lymington hospital with severe concussion and hyperthermia LOL....

oh and the list goes on LOL

:)

now, Im poorly, please make me something nice to eat :)

Wow, this one is deep. Glad you are back and OK.

Closest to Death - I used to work hospice and inpatient AIDS/oncology - so I was a witness and supporter for more than a few people who were dying.

Personally- when an over zealous police officer put me in a chokehold at a peaceful demonstration- the whole crushed windpipe/caratoid artery thing - big hospital trip and some lasting injuries to my neck.

Miracle- so many - but feeling my babies in my arms and knowing that despite a differing biology we were meant to be family and seeing how amazingly well they did overcoming being born addicted and way too early
