Anniversary Dinner, And The Last Of The Home Made Bread

AS mentioned, June 2nd was our 36th Wedding Anniversary. We have celebrated this day in so many different ways throughout the years, I couldn't recall all of them! I got a pretty handy little deep fryer for Christmas, and have gotten better at using it. It is a running joke in our family, that if Mom goes out to eat, she will order shrimp! I now can safely say, I can make shrimp Tempura with the best of them! The key is to use ice water in the batter- it works miracles when crispy is what you're looking for! French fries were a given, as you have hot oil, a few potatoes( another passion of Frau Buff!)and any skill whatsoever at not burning something! We also had cheesecake for dessert.. Remember the one I made for Memorial Day? People don't realize these freeze very well, making them easier to cut into precise portions...
We tend to have heavy, then light meals- just to mix it up! I took the last of the home-made bread(now past prime!) and made French Toast with it. It really hit the spot! Haven't had it in a year, at least...
Wishing you all a great week-end, and I think I'm going to grill something...

I have a baby deep fat fryer, but I have yet to use it. For some reason, it frightens me. All that hot oil. And fires. And cats.

Kate- I was the same way, but once you get the hang of it- it might be the easiest way to cook-ever!

I was always terrified of my deep fat fryer so I got shot of it. Thanks for the tip about the batter. :)

Happy Belated Anniversay! WOW! I've never "known" anyone married that long. Just think, four more years and it's the big 40!!!!

Congratulations. I'm so glad there are couples out there that actually make it work.

Is the deep fryer scary? Does it make a mess? I fear it.

DogB- I should have made more of them!
Pink- It does make a mess, so we only deep fry once in a while''
Dana- Well, it's been 36 years of something, some times I didn't know what!
Hit40- I actually mix Mrs. Butterworths with real maple syrup- it's thicker that way..
Donna- I never took the ice water thing seriously, but I do now!
KB- Thanks!

french toast made from homemade bread? Obscene. You shouldn't be allowed to taunt us with that;)

Stale, thick cut, home made bread- 4 pieces can absorb all in 4(no lie!)large eggs! Best meal of the week!

I just saw on Barefoot Contessa (Ina- I love her) that ice water is what you use. And now YOU say it- so I'm going to start doing it.

I have a deep fryer "thing" put away that I haven't used for a while. You just inspired me!!!!
