My son and his girlfriend came over for dinner; steaks, Au gratin potatoes(from scratch!), home made bread, mushrooms, and brownies. Got the tree up, and watched the snow fall some more...
Later that night, my wife did a couple of loads of laundry... She usually checks the pockets for money, pens, money, keys, money, etc., but missed one item in my U of M hoodie sweatshirt- my cell phone. For the record, don't put these through the washer, as they don't work after that... I was due for a new phone, but I do like the 100 or so phone numbers stored to be downloaded to the new phone. That ain't gonna happen! I briefly checked the new phones available, and was overwhelmed by the choices... I wonder how much an underwater phone costs?....

Hey guess what Uncle Buf--
If your phone has a SIM card, you may be able to put it into your new phone and get your numbers back. My phone drown in a terrible Sprite accident, so I took it home, swapped out the SIM card with my old phone and it worked just fine until I got my new phone replaced. I don't know if you have a SIM card, but you could check and see.

My experience is that you can use the SIM card, but not all of them will be retrieved...the people will call eventually and you tell them you were swimming with the fishes for a while and now you have returned...mine went into sink at the cafe a few months ago...your dinner sounds good...soup for us tonight...and banana cake I am about to make...
big electric bummer....
Roasted leg of pork from the local butcher for tea here. Salt and spice rubbed in to the crackling.
My phone still isnt right but at least all the numbers are safe on a piece of paper now.
Snow- No SIM card... just a dead cell phone, murdered by drowning..
Chef- I'm making bacon cheeseburgers- death by fat...
DogB- I was not impressed, especially when it looked like she was trying to pin the blame on me..
meridic- Mine are gone, but about 4 hrs should get most of them back in...
My Chicklet's idea of the perfect dinner? T-Bone steaks, baked potatoes with sour cream and butter and the brownies? Oh boy!
I'm going to treat her in the next couple of days to a yummy steak dinner.
I'm in the market for a new phone as well... and I may just go for a Crackberry.
anndi- I like a camera to be a camera, a phone to be a phone, a CD player to be a- well you get it.. The Motorola Q was a piece of junk! Battery life was 1/2 the day..
I accidentally laundered Bill's cell phone a few months ago. After it dried for a week, it started working again, but was never very good about holding a charge again.
Worse than that is the one that fell off my belt clip (I carried it because I was oncall for my old job) into the toilet...at the worst possible time. Turns out that Lysol destroys the screen.
Jeanne- I love you- you have vinidctated me...
Well now that you are snowed in you have plenty of time to look thru your phonebook and figure out whos number needs to go into your new phone! :D Keep warm BD...
Thats a goooood question!
Have a good Christmas you and your family Buff!
I've washed my daughters too, and my son lost his in the channel (salty water) where it stayed for a week. After the washing incident, I took it apart and let it dry for a long time. It worked so and so, but finally had to be replaced. The sim card survived both times and are still in use in new phones. I've found that a memory usb stick will survive a thorough wash in the washing machine, if you dry it well afterwards.
awww...that is so sad!
I can almost relate, as my son lost his very expensive cell phone. It was stolen actually & we went around in panic getting the number blocked so that the sim card could not be misused ( too much terrorism in India these days)
Got him a cheap one, which no one would want to steal ...
Dam and bugger, if it didnt go on to hot a wash and you put it somewhere with constant warm heat like the airing cupboard sometimes, just sometimes they dry out and actually work, or work enough to get all your information like numbers etc off.... I know this, cos I have washed 3 mobile phones, 2 ipods and a digital camera LMFAO.....
One day I want to come to your house and be spoilt with supper LOL
x
We have Sprint phones and they have our phone numbers stored in their system. Well, at least I think they do. Whenever we get new phones they go into a computer and the next thing you know everything is transferred from one phone to the other. Worth a try to check into.
The rule in our house is if the piece of clothing has a stain on it then you need to turn it inside out. Otherwise it will probably be laundered with the stain.
Sounds like it's time for you to start doing the laundry. :-)
Tavo has had similar issues. His cell phone likes to dive into cereal, jump into a bucket of paint, and one time he just decided to take the whole thing apart and glue it together in a completely different arrangement :)
He just got the new google phone and loves it!
lulda- Well, since I retired from the steel business, no one calls me anyway...
Roger- I know they make them.. Merry Christmas to you!
anette- This phone is dead, I dried it, tried to recharge it, etc.... Gone...
Mona- My next phone will be the basically free one Verizon gives you with a 2 year contract- it does the job!
marmy- Come over before I replace the phone- I hate interuptions! LOL..
BEgirl- They may be able to retrieve the info- but I doubt it..
Tavolini- Tavo wins the "Phone Abuse" award, hands down...
Great deals on contract mobile phones over here, my Tom has a $700 contract phone that he didnt have to pay for he only pays $50 a month thats unlimited text and 500 minutes of calls.... and cos he was gonna go with another company the one he is with said if he kept the contract for another year they would send him a playstation 3 with singstar and mics, so he said fine :) but we already have one so he just flogged it on ebay for 265 quid $530...
he gets a new phone every 8 months free and the one previous he boxes back up (he always keeps the boxes) and flogs them on ebay every 8 months and usually gets about $200 for it :).... he looks after his stuff....
I'll be over boxing day :)

The new cell phones never stand up to such regular use like the wash cycle. Mine barely tolerates me throwing it at the wall from time to time.
Marmy- We have all kinds of deals here too.. I used to use 3000 minutes when I was working, and have been with Verizon since forever- they treat me pretty OK..
Sornie- I have dropped them, gotten them wet, thrown them, etc.. But a vigorous bout with the washer is not part of the UL approval testing...
That stinks. But don;t feel too bad. Mine just quit working and I didn't even wash it! Grrrrr.
I knew I was not the only one with a3000 minute plan and I have yet to get close to 1900...somebody call me!
I added text for my son, but I hate that so much...buttons too small, fingers too big...my son actually had the gaul to ask me for a Crackberry for his 21st birthday...I just laughed and said yeah right...
Well, that will lern' ya not to leave stuff in your pockets! I mean, wives are great and all, but we do slip up every once in awhile. ;)
I bought dh a Blackberry Pearl for Christmas...and I bought one for myself too! Shhhhh....
Good luck finding the right phone for you! And Merry Christmas!
UrbanV- I spent about 2hrs (Round trip!) on the road(blizzard!) to go about 10 miles to the Verizon store and get the new phone!
Chef- Sounds like my Motorola Q that I had through work- piece of junk!
RaisinG- This is a woman that goes through all my clothes before washing- to get the money!
Buff here is a joke for ya!
I tried to talk my wife into buying a case of Miller Lite for $14.95. Instead, she bought a jar of cold cream for $7.95. I told her the beer would make her look better at night than the cold cream. And that's when the fight started.
Chef- I like it! Ladies, it's not how you look, it's how we think you look...Beer goggles are a great stocking stuffer...
