Maddy Doesn't Believe Me...

These represent some of the spices, herbs, sauces, vinegars, oils, etc. I use when cooking... It does not include the refrigerated stuff, the freezer stuff, or the pantry stuff... If you don't think I need drawers in cabinets that hold 30lbs. of stuff- think again! If I run out of something, IT AIN'T PRETTY!
My son came over yesterday, and repaired my overweight "spice drawers" as we refer to them. I made a lunch for he and his girlfriend, while directing repairs. I remember him saying "Dad, this many spices and stuff is ridiculous" the next breath was "You gotta write down how you make some of the stuff you make"... I will kid, I will...

Looks like my overstuffed spice cupboard. I have 3 full shelves plus a spice rack of stuff that I use on a daily basis.

We plan on redoing the kitchen after the cookbook deadline. To get a bigger stove (I have a tiny city stove now), we need to knock out the spice cabinet. So I will have to choose. Or come up with another solution.

I'm a spice junkie--can't pass by anything new, either. And the irony of it is that last night I actually RAN OUT of cumin.

I ran out of sage! Just before Thanksgiving! I knew you'd know what I was talking about!

Wow! You put my spice cabinet to shame.

But I will say this, I was looking for the cookie sprinkle stuff for the sugar cookies my kids were making last night, and I had all these extra bottles of spices in the wrong cabinet, so I have a LOT of double stuff! I wish I could keep that stuff more organized, but the solution hasn't come to me yet.

I got to my son's and said at the store the first night "any spices you know I use that you do not have", and he said "all of them mom"...we hit the ethnic market and spent some serious cash, no wonder he has not cooked in a while...all he had was seasoning salt...just that full of salt!

Yours is like my overstuffed cabinets at home...sorry 'over weight', and I bet we could do some serious cook off's together!

This looks like my house. Someone needs to invent a really good spice management system.

I see your meat squirter back there...I use a cookie press (dont tell anyone)looks like a pretty good assortment - you might be missing few even...

Bina- I'm never out of anything, but I sure misplace a lot of stuff!
Chef- We are kindred spirits when it comes to cooking!
Doc- If we get organized, we will lose our creativity!
DogB- I didn't point all the labels where you could read them! If you ever stop by, and I say "I don't have that"- I'll probably die of shame...

DutchBabe- Like your new picture! I grew up in a house that had salt, black pepper, and cinnamon..
Odat- Have them overbuild the cabinets!
Pink- I think everyone here feels like you and I do about our spices!

Do you file them in alphabetical order in the drawer? ;)

Wow!! :)

buffalodick said...

Beth- until we unloaded the two drawers, even I didn't know how much stuff I had!
Ake- You know me better than that by now!
Casdok- If I can't make it, you wouldn't eat it!

Maybe if you dumped a 'Texas' size heapin amount into the recipes like I did you would go through it faster...partner...my spices are like my gun...they either kill ya...but most of the time I have ya where I want ya :)

Holy cow!!! Well if you actually use it all I'm coming to your house to eat! lol the most we have here is some pepper...becuz I think we ran out of salt... and actually I think we need to trhow the pepper away anyhow! hmmm yes we only eat like hamburger helper... lol so deprived are we!

buffalodick said...

Chef- I'm pretty heavy handed with the spices too!
Sabrae- Welcome to the blog! Some of those spices have never been opened!

How sad, UncleBuff, is it, that I not only believed you, but thought-no way does all his cooking stuff fit in a drawer! I figured you'd have an entire floor to ceiling cupboard in that fantastically awesome kitchen of yours!

Snowniece- Two big drawers hold all that stuff- now that we rebuilt them! My pantry is the one that goes from floor to ceiling!

I was doing an inventory of my spices to figure out what I'm in danger of running low on (cumin) and discovered we have a lot of cloves.. and allspice (huh?).

buffalodick said...

Anndi- They work well in Island cuisine or baking! I toast and grind my own cumin- a chili competitor can't be without it!

The bottom drawer had been broke for a bit, but still usable. When the top drawer gave way, we had to fix it!

Ooooooo, Marmite Toasty...there's so many things here I like....

buffalodick said...

Braja- Welcome to the blog! I grind and toast some of my spices also! Vegetarian? As long as you don't call me a "murderer", I won't call you a "grazer"! I respect you and your beliefs- Urban Vegan will back me up on this(I hope!).. We all have common ground on cooking!

oooh--I'm the same way. I have an entire 3 shelf cabinet that is nothing but spices. It's fairly ridiculous! But, I use them!

I went to my parent's house and was going to whip up something--they have hardly any spices! Like 5 bottles, and that's it! (and I remember buying their bottle of tarragon in middle school...)

Lini- Notice how many of our friends here in bloggerland have the same problem(solution!)? What a party it would be to see us all in one room- a BIG Kitchen!
