A Little Off Our Feed...

After a couple of big food days back to back, we tend to lose appetite.. Plus my wife and I have both been experiencing flu-like symptoms, which doesn't make food sound all that great! The weather has been conducive to just staying home and veggin' out. The wind was 40+ miles an hour and it rained for about two days.. The result of this was a large portion of snow disappeared, and I ended up with two house guests until Tuesday! My son's power was knocked out- no heat! He and his girlfriend moved in here for a couple of days, until power is restored!
The first photo of food you see was a Saturday night classic; tomato-basil soup, with an open face broiled cheese sandwich... The second photo is my attempt at shrimp spring rolls, with fried pork and shrimp rice... Spring rolls were tasty, but could have been prettier! The rice was good! It's going to be a strange place here for a couple of days....

I know exactly what you mean about big food days killing the appetite and we've both been barking like dogs since Boxing Day! I've coughed so much I have to hold my ribs because they're sore!

That soup and cheesy toast - I could just about manage. :)

I have not had open face cheese toast in a long time...we used to do it with saltines...low pantry and all.

I know what you mean...I took pics of my gnocchi and after thought I could have put more effort into making it prettier, but hubby was hungry...

Ake- I did all that cooking, and really didn't eat much.. New Years Eve- I'm the cheesecake man- again!
Chef- When I'm the cook and the photographer, sometimes the pics are hurried, or forgotten altogether!

Its so funny that you call your "one-slice-of-bread-with-cheese-on-top" open faced sanwiches! Most sanwiches in Norway is served that way, with cheese, meat, fish, jam or something else on top.

I SO vote for tomato basil soup and open faced grilled cheese. Looks amazing after all that rich food over the holidays.

The soup makes me think of that scene in Willy Wonka, where Violet Beauregard gets to the tomato soup part of the gobstopper talks about how rich and creamy it is on her tongue. Mmmmmm!

Beth- Dog definitely inspired me to finally try the wrapppers I bought awhile back! "Towmater soup and a toasted cheese sammich" was a Saturday lunch when I was growiing up!
Jeanne- I've been caught putting cream cheese or sour cream in my tomato soup!
G-man- Thanks! They tasted fine, but I have to practice folding!
Rog- The older I get, the more I like that combo!
Mona- I'll check out the contest! Thank you!
Odat- Son's girlfriend gets in 23rd, son 25th, me and my wife, 26th... then they move in for a few days!

I always experiment on guests too! Those photos are sufficiently tempting to inspire me to crack open a tube of those crescent rolls to go with breakfast, plus with the oven on it should take the chill off the place.

Hope the sniffles subside soon.
Cheers

Cannot find your email...so...

Two guys are out for a long hike one day. They stop to take a rest for a few minutes and just then, a large venomous snake slithers by and bites one of the guys on his pecker! "Oh shit, what am I gonna do", says the guy that got bit. His friend says, "Stay here, I'll run to get help and be right back". With that, the friend runs as fast as he can to get help.

The friend keeps on running for about an hour until he finally comes to a small town. All he sees is an abandoned gas station, an old diner, and a run-down bar. Inside the bar he goes and rushes to the counter and screams to the bartender: "Please, please, I gotta save my friend, he was bitten by a snake and he's gonna die!""Can you help me" he asks, "he's my best friend". The bartender tells him, "Don't worry, we get lots of folks around these parts with snake bites, he's not gonna die - I'll help you". "I used to be a doctor many years back you know".

Relieved, the friend asks, "Oh thank you thank you, what do I need to do?" "First, the bartender says, take your two hands and clean the area really well with soap and water. "Then massage the skin around the wound - this loosens-up the poison." "Next, you need to make a small cut between the two holes of the snake's teeth and suck-out all the poison" he continues. "That's all you need to do, just take your time and suck out all the poison". "He'll be just fine in a day or so" he finished.

"Oh thank you, thank you, the friend says as he races out of the bar and back to his best friend. In no time he's back at his friend's side, who's in real agony right now. "Did you get help" the bitten friend asks. "Yeah yeah, I found an old doctor and asked him for help and to tell me what to do" the out-of-breath friend says. "What did he say, tell me tell me" the bitten-one asks.

"You gonna DIE"!!!
