Medical Procedure Day, So I Just Made Soup..

I had to be at a clinic at 7:45AM this morning, to have an endoscopy (Tube with camera, and cauterizing capabilites!) down throat and a little more.. You can't eat or drink anything for about 6-8 hrs. prior, so last night I ate supper a little later (no wife home- fried egg and cheese sandwich!). Today at the docs' could have gone smoother, as the knock-out drugs didn't knock me out. This made it tougher on me and them! Anyway, after that we went out for lunch- one of those places that serve breakfast all day. I ordered a version of eggs Benedict I had never seen- all normal ingredients, but a choice between ham or sausage patty! This with made with a thick sausage patty is excellent! Anyway, the rest of the day was laying around in recovery mode. After someone shoves a big tube down your throat, you need a little down time. Ladies... Don't even go there today... I can hear your thoughts from here..
I did find enough energy to make soup. One of my "Let's see what's in the house" creations. Had some celery, carrots, onion, mushrooms, some sliced beef, barley, and some beef broth- I could make a decent vegetable beef barley soup in less than an hour! Touched up with black pepper, celery seeds, tomato paste, and Mrs' Dash- the flavor of the broth was darn good! I had today off, and will be off thru Labor Day, so posts will be sporadic for a bit. Plan to take pictures of what we do and see, so stay tuned...

hope you are recovering well!

I love it when "everything but the kitchen sink" soups turn out well--it really just makes your night, doesn't it?

Hope you are feeling better.

I have to say that if I had to make a soup with "whatever I have around the house" it would be some nasty creation, most likely including dog hair, caryons, dirty socks, some ramen noodles and maybe a susage link.
and it would take me all day.

Hope you are ok!
I had a colonoscopy a few months ago and the stuff that they make you drink wasn't so bad...I liked it that I was put out and woke up and alittle while later I went home..I don't have to have it done again for a long time...10 years...yea!

Take care,
Lee :)

Try it in the other direction some time...I need one every year because of my colitis. the only reason I tolerate it is because the drugs are just sooo damned good. ;-)

Hey, the soup looks great.

Sorry it didn't go as smoothly as it should at the clinic, hope your feeling better and the results are good....
I have to dunk bread in my soup, tut tut....

tavolini- Yeah, just a sore throat... Soup felt good on it!
tentcamper- I've made others that weren't so successful!
finn- I tend to leak blood internally, they are cauterizing some of veins to stop that..Probably have another one in a month..
insane- thanks, and thanks!
DogB- It had a nice balance of variety, texture, and flavors..
dana- Me too- we have never been to this little place, but agreed we would be back!
andie- Glad you commented! Time will tell if it did any good...
leezee- They numb your throat so the tube down it won't make you throw up on them! This is the fourth time they have done this to me, but only the second time where I wasn't unconscious because of an under-dose of sedative...
mr. nightT- I have tried it, and that was more prep, but far easier for me!
Queenie- Thanks! We had bread with butter too! Soup and bread are married at the hip...

Sorry to hear it didn't got as smoothly as you'd hoped Buff. I'd rather have a camera shoved up my bum than down my throat - I gag! (use your imagination!).

My favourite soup is bean and olive oil - carrots, celery, onion, tomatoes, garlic, veg stock, cannelini and borlotti beans served with a glug of olive oil on top and garlic bread to dunk. :)

There is nothing better than home made, thrown together soup.

Dang, sorry about the tube down the troat thing. Now you know how WE feel! LOL

bina- My first fried egg sandwiches were made by my old, widowed Dutch immigrant grandfather, who lived kiddie corner from us... I think it's all he knew how to cook... I was his special grandchild, he was hard as nails on me- but I thought he knew more than anyone about how you were supposed to be to get though life.. An old tough, but leg-crippled man, and a young kid on his heels- me thinking he knew everything worthwhile... we would have made Life Magazine quite a picture..
michelle- You are so happy when you are grounded! Me too...
Pink- As I am fond of saying, "I don't know if this is Art- but I love it"!!!

For the first time, in a long time, I feel people care about me.. waste that life energy on your kids, grand kids, relatives, and anyone younger than me, I'm too mean to die! The future are the children.. I will not live forever, and neither will you. Do the best you can, leave the best you can- Buffalo 2:13

I feel for you buddy. I have had two of those damn things. I describe it as swallowing a garden hose. Ask for extra drugs.

I am with Melody. I get them once a year. It used to freak me out a lot. Now I make them put the mouth piece tube in after the meds kick in.

I am a firm believer in over medicating for such procedures. Hope all is well with your results.
